Campgrounds and RV parks near Rising Star, TX

Rising Star sits in Eastland County in the rolling Cross Timbers of west-central Texas, roughly halfway between Abilene and Stephenville. The town itself is small, so most RV travelers use it as a base for regional fishing lakes and state parkland. The largest draw within an hour's drive is Lake Brownwood State Park, a Civilian Conservation Corps-era park on a large reservoir south of town. Close-in options for RVs include Council Bluff and Willow Point inside Lake Brownwood State Park, plus private parks like Sandy Beach RV Park and Wall's Ponderosa RV Park & Marina on the same lake. North of Rising Star along Interstate 20, The Tired Traveler RV Park in Cisco offers a convenient overnight stop with easy highway access. Expect a mix of full-hookup back-in sites at Council Bluff and water-and-electric sites at Willow Point inside the state park, plus longer pull-throughs at private parks. The area is rural, cell coverage varies, and most groceries and fuel are found in Cisco, Eastland, or Brownwood rather than in Rising Star itself.

Sites at Lake Brownwood State Park, including the Council Bluff full-hookup loop and the Willow Point electric loop, are booked through the Texas Parks & Wildlife reservation system. Overnight camping reservations may be made up to five months in advance, and campsites can be reserved up until 4 p.m. on the arrival date if space remains. Day passes are separate and open up to one month ahead. During peak weekends and holidays, the popular loops fill early, so booking at the five-month mark is recommended. Private parks like Sandy Beach RV Park, Wall's Ponderosa RV Park & Marina, and The Tired Traveler RV Park in Cisco are booked directly with the operator by phone or website. Summer weekends can sell out several weeks ahead, so book early for holiday periods and consider midweek arrivals for better site selection.
