Campgrounds near Rollingwood, Texas
Rollingwood is a small city tucked inside the Austin metro, just west of Zilker Park and Lady Bird Lake. RV travelers use it as a base for Austin proper while staying close to the greenbelt trails and Barton Creek. Because Rollingwood itself is residential, campgrounds sit in neighboring Austin communities, most within a 20 to 30 minute drive.
Nearby options mix private RV resorts and one Texas state park. Awkward Turtle RV Austin and Oak Forest RV Park serve travelers wanting quick access to central Austin, while Austin Lone Star RV Resort and Austin East KOA Holiday offer larger, full-service properties with more family amenities. McKinney Falls State Park, on the southeast side of the city, is the only public campground close to Rollingwood and books up quickly.
Expect hot summers, mild winters, and a busy travel calendar tied to Austin events, University of Texas games, and spring festival season.
Things to do near Rollingwood
From Rollingwood, families can reach Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, and the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail in minutes. The Barton Creek Greenbelt offers swimming holes and shaded hikes when creek levels allow. Downtown Austin, the Texas Capitol, and the Bullock State History Museum are short drives east.
McKinney Falls State Park sits at the confluence of Onion Creek and Williamson Creek and features scenic upper and lower falls along Onion Creek. The park has several miles of hiking and biking trails and offers natural swimming areas in the creek, though water levels can vary.
Lake Travis and Lake Austin are within reach for boating and paddling, and Dripping Springs wineries and breweries make an easy day trip west of town.

Central Texas has a long shoulder season. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable weather and the biggest crowds. McKinney Falls State Park is open year-round, and Austin's festival calendar, including South by Southwest in March and Austin City Limits in October, drives RV park occupancy well beyond the parks themselves.
Summer is hot. Daytime highs routinely sit in the mid to upper 90s Fahrenheit, and shade is limited at many RV sites. Full hookups with reliable 50-amp service become important for running air conditioning through the afternoon. Onion Creek and Barton Springs help take the edge off.
Winter is mild but not frost-free. Cold fronts can push overnight lows near or below freezing for short stretches, and heavy rain events in late spring and early fall can affect creek crossings and low-water trails. Access to trails across Onion Creek at McKinney Falls may be affected by creek conditions after rainfall, so contact the park for trail access information.

RV was great! We had a wonderful time renting it for a weekend at COTA. Jesse was very responsive and helpful anytime we needed it.

Jesse is great! This is my second time renting a camper from him and he has been very easy to work with. We were camping locally and he even stopped by to check on us the day after our departure and brought us an outdoor rug just in case we got some rain! I highly recommend him and we will certainly be using him again in the future!

How to book campgrounds near Rollingwood
Private RV parks such as Awkward Turtle RV Austin, Austin Lone Star RV Resort, Oak Forest RV Park, and Austin East KOA Holiday book directly through their own websites or by phone. For festival weekends and UT home football Saturdays, reserve several months out.
Advance reservations are recommended at McKinney Falls State Park, especially during peak season or for weekend stays. Most overnight camping reservations through the Texas State Parks system, operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife, may be made up to five months in advance, with the window opening at 8 a.m.
Texas State Parks generally allow stays of up to 14 consecutive days at a campsite, so longer trips need to be planned around that limit. Weekends and major holidays commonly sell out, so walk-up availability is unreliable.
What to expect on arrival
Most private parks near Rollingwood offer full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi, with pool access at the larger resorts. Sites vary from tight back-ins on urban lots to pull-throughs at the resort-style properties on the city's edges. Confirm rig length limits at booking, especially for the closer-in urban parks.
At McKinney Falls, the gate is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the office 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Late arrivals must call the park at 512-243-1643 before 4:15 p.m. on the arrival date for late arrival instructions. Pets must remain on a leash at all times and are not allowed in the water, and coolers are not allowed at the Falls.
Swimming is allowed in Onion Creek, but the park does not have lifeguards, so families swim at their own risk.

cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much should I budget for fuel on a Rollingwood RV trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans 16 to 22 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Texas typically has some of the cheaper gas prices in the country, often 30 to 50 cents below the national average, so filling up before leaving the Austin area is smart. Buc-ee's locations in Bastrop and Buda are local favorites for big-rig-friendly pumps and cheap fuel. A weekend round trip to Fredericksburg in a Class C usually runs $60 to $90 in gas, leaving plenty of budget for Hill Country wineries and Texas barbecue along the way.

Hill Country routes west toward Dripping Springs and Wimberley involve some grades but nothing scary in a standard motorhome. Summer thunderstorms can cause flash flooding on low-water crossings, so check conditions before heading out.
