Campgrounds and RV parks near Rosanky, TX

Hiking and cycling anchor most trips. Bastrop State Park has about seven miles of trail through recovering pine forest, and Buescher State Park adds additional quieter, less-traveled paths on the Winding Woodland Trail system. Park Road 1C between the two parks is a popular scenic drive and a challenging ride for experienced cyclists. Fishing is easy for families. Lake Mina at Bastrop and the 25-acre Buescher State Park Lake are both accessible, and no fishing license is required when casting from shore inside a Texas state park. Buescher allows non-motorized boats, so kayaks and canoes work well. The seasonal swimming pool at Bastrop State Park is open from around Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and downtown Bastrop is a short drive for restaurants, shops, and river access on the Colorado.

Spring and fall are the sweet spot. From March through May and again in October and November, daytime highs are mild and the trails at Bastrop and Buescher State Parks are comfortable. May is the wettest month of the year, so expect thunderstorms and check trail conditions after heavy rain. Summer is hot. Highs in June, July, and August routinely climb into the mid-90s Fahrenheit and can push past 100, and shade is limited on exposed trails. The seasonal pool at Bastrop State Park is the main way families cool off in the park itself, and it operates only between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Winters are short and mild but bring another consideration: from October through March, prescribed burning may take place at Bastrop and Buescher State Parks, which can cause partial closures and lingering smoke for several days. Contact park headquarters within a week of arrival to check status.

State park sites vary widely. Bastrop State Park offers pull-through full-hookup sites in the Piney Hill area (RV only) and back-in sites in the Copperas Creek area, with a full range from walk-in tent sites to full hookup. Buescher State Park has smaller electric back-in sites in Oak Haven, Lakeview, and Cozy Circle, with vehicle length limits around 28 to 30 feet on many sites, so measure before booking a longer rig. Check-in for campsites is 2 p.m. and checkout is noon. Park offices close in late afternoon, and late arrivals must check in the following morning at headquarters. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., a maximum of eight people are allowed per campsite, and pets must stay leashed and out of park buildings. GPS units are known to route drivers to Buescher State Park via the back entrance on Park Road 1C, which has low clearance and tight curves that are difficult for RVs and motorhomes. Use the FM 153 entrance off Highway 71 near Smithville instead.
