Camping near Snook, Texas
Snook sits in Burleson County in the Brazos Valley of east-central Texas, roughly 15 miles southwest of Bryan-College Station and about halfway between Houston and Austin. The town is small and rural, but its location puts RV travelers within an easy drive of Texas A&M University, the Brazos River bottomlands, and Lake Somerville, one of the region's largest reservoirs.
RV options in the immediate area lean toward independent, full-hookup parks that cater to long-term workers, A&M visitors, and Highway 21 travelers. Rolling by the Dozen RV Park, Galloping Snail RV Park, Jones Road RV Park, Holiday RV Park, and Timber Ridge RV Park all serve the Snook area with 30/50-amp sites and pull-through access for larger rigs.
For state-park style camping, Lake Somerville State Park sits between Houston and Austin and is made up of four units. The Birch Creek Unit is on the north side of the lake, and the Nails Creek Unit is on the southwest side. Both units are within a short drive of Snook and offer developed sites with water and electricity, primitive sites along the trailway, and equestrian camping.
Things to do near Snook
The main draw is Lake Somerville, where visitors can fish, paddle, swim, and boat, ride horses on the 13-mile trailway or in the Nails Creek Unit, and pursue mountain biking, birding, and hiking. The lake is known for bass and catfish, and both the Birch Creek and Nails Creek units have boat ramps.
Bryan-College Station, about 20 minutes northeast, offers Texas A&M campus tours, the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, Kyle Field on football Saturdays, and the Downtown Bryan historic district. Families can plan a day around campus, then return to camp for the evening.
Snook itself is best known for Sodolak's Original Country Inn and its chicken-fried bacon. Nearby Caldwell hosts the annual Kolache Festival on the square in downtown Caldwell on the second Saturday in September, with free admission, homemade kolaches, and family attractions.

December - February
63° / 43°F 75 mmMild days, cool nights; occasional hard freezes possible.
Spring is the prime window in the Brazos Valley. Wildflowers, including bluebonnets, peak from mid-March into April, and temperatures are comfortable for hiking the Somerville Trailway before summer heat sets in. This is also the busiest booking window: Lake Somerville State Park's busy season runs from the first weekend in March through the Fourth of July, and Texas A&M graduation weekends in May pull heavy demand into Bryan-College Station parks.
Summer brings sustained heat and humidity, with August daily highs averaging around 95 degrees, so shaded sites, 50-amp service for air conditioning, and lake access become priorities. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and burn bans are frequent in dry stretches.
Fall cools off gradually through October and is a strong second season, overlapping with Texas A&M home football weekends that fill nearby RV parks months out. Winter is mild but can be wet, with occasional hard freezes; January daily lows average in the low 40s, and most private parks stay open year-round.

It was a pleasure renting from Jon and his sweet wife. The description was accurate, and the accommodations and all amenities were top-notch. He is very responsive, which is very appreciative, as I reached out to some other listings with no response at all. When we arrived we also found a thoughtful surprise of a dozen of their home grown eggs! We had enough space for our UTV and 5 tall adults. We'll definitely rent from them again. This was my first time using RVezy and the process has been great.

How to book campgrounds near Snook
Private RV parks around Snook, including Rolling by the Dozen RV Park, Galloping Snail RV Park, Jones Road RV Park, Holiday RV Park, and Timber Ridge RV Park, are booked directly by phone or through the park's own website. Weeknight availability is usually strong; A&M football weekends, graduation, and Chilifest weekends should be reserved several months ahead.
Lake Somerville State Park uses the Texas State Parks reservation system. Sites can be booked up to five months in advance by phone or through the Texas State Parks online reservations portal, and the park often reaches capacity, so reservations are recommended for both camping and day use.
Corps of Engineers sites on Somerville Lake, including Yegua Creek and Rocky Creek, are booked through Recreation.gov, typically opening several months in advance.
What to expect at Snook campgrounds
The Snook area is flat to gently rolling, with mixed post oak woodland and open pasture. Roads into the small private parks are generally paved or well-graded gravel, and most sites are level with full hookups. Cell coverage is reliable near town and along Highway 21, with weaker signal in parts of the Lake Somerville backcountry.
At the state park, expect a mix of shaded and open sites. Lake Somerville State Park covers roughly 8,700 acres across four units in Burleson and Lee Counties, adjacent to Somerville Public Hunting Land and the 13-mile Somerville Trailway that connects the Birch Creek and Nails Creek units. Both units have restrooms with showers, boat ramps, and fish-cleaning shelters. Pack for sun, mosquitoes near the water, and fire-ant awareness.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Snook, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Snook, TX?

On RVezy, travel trailers in the Brazos Valley typically start around $70 to $120 per night, Class C motorhomes average $150 to $200, and Class A or larger fifth wheels run $185 and up. Booking midweek and outside of Texas A&M football weekends is the easiest way to score a cheap RV rental Snook visitors love. tourtexas.com/destinations/snookDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Snook, Texas?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Snook, Texas. The Texas Department of Public Safety does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or special RV endorsement for personal recreational vehicles, even big Class A motorhomes. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow, so there are no extra trips to an office. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're road-ready for your Snook RV trip.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-licenseIs RV rental in Snook covered by protection and roadside assistance?
Yes, every RV rental in Snook booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover accidental damage to the RV, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort at checkout (hosts do not set this). Roadside assistance covers flats, tows, jump-starts, and lockouts, which is reassuring on rural Burleson County backroads or out near Lake Somerville. Coverage details and limits are outlined on RVezy's insurance and protection page, so you can review exactly what's included before you book your Brazos Valley adventure.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Snook RV booking?
You have options, and booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Snook, TX, not individual hosts, and it includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Refunds beyond that grace period depend on how far out your trip is. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or offers travel credits so you can rebook another rig. You can review the current cancellation policy on RVezy's help center before you confirm. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for Aggie home-game weekends, and you'll still have flexibility shortly after checkout.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Snook?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Snook options are plentiful on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see rigs whose owners welcome dogs, with any pet fees listed right on the page. Once you're here, your pup will love Lake Somerville State Park's leashed trails about 30 minutes northwest, and the wide open pastures at 5D Ranch RV Park are a hit with energetic breeds. Bring a tie-out, a collapsible water bowl (Texas summers are no joke), and proof of rabies vaccination if you plan to visit any state park day-use area. Your co-pilot is going to love this trip.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-somerville-birch-creekCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Snook?
Yes, RV delivery Snook is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig. Many Brazos Valley hosts will tow the trailer or motorhome to your campsite at 5D Ranch, Galloping Snail RV Park, Great Escapes Bryan-College Station, or even a private driveway, then level it, hook up water, sewer, and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through everything. Delivery fees usually scale with distance, and most hosts cover the local Snook and College Station area easily. Filter by Delivery on the search page, message a host with your exact site number, and you're set.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Snook,TexasHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Snook?

Houston sits about 95 miles southeast (under 2 hours), Austin is roughly 110 miles west, San Antonio about 175 miles southwest, and the Texas Hill Country wineries around Fredericksburg are about 200 miles west. For coastal vibes, Galveston Island is around 150 miles south. Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy: some include a generous daily allowance, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for long loops. Filter listings by mileage policy or message the host to confirm before booking your route through the Brazos Valley.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Snook,TexasWhere are the best campgrounds near Snook for an RV stay?

Pro tip: for Aggie football weekends, lock in your reservation 3 to 6 months ahead or stay in Snook proper for easier game-day access.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-somerville-birch-creekWhat's the best time of year to take a Snook RV trip?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot for any motorhome rental Snook getaway. Mid-March through May brings highs in the 70s to mid-80s and Texas bluebonnets carpeting the Brazos Valley, while late September through November cools back down to comfortable 75 to 88°F days, perfect for Aggie football tailgates. Summer (June to August) regularly hits 93 to 96°F with heat-index spikes near 110°F, so plan early-morning drives and pick a rig with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild (lows in the 40s, highs near 60°F), making December and January a quietly great time for cheap RV rental Snook deals and uncrowded campgrounds.
weather.gov/hgx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to handle it?
You've got this, and you won't be alone. First time renting an RV in the Brazos Valley is easier than people expect because every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup: how to level the rig, connect 30/50-amp power, dump tanks, light the propane, and run the AC. Hosts share their contact info so you can text from your campsite if something feels off, and 24/7 roadside assistance is built in. Snook's flat, low-traffic farm-to-market roads (FM 60, FM 2155) are ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel before tackling anything bigger. Pick a smaller travel trailer or Class C, choose Delivery, and you'll feel like a pro by sunset.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is one call away, day or night. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance that covers flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, mechanical breakdowns, and towing, whether you're parked at Galloping Snail RV Park in Snook or rolling down US-290 toward Austin. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or message for quick questions like how to reset the inverter or restart the water heater. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip to help with anything that's not a quick fix. Save both numbers in your phone at pickup and you're covered.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Snook RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state trips are absolutely on the table. Most Snook RV rentals are cleared for travel throughout the continental US, so you can wander to Louisiana's Creole country, hit New Mexico's White Sands, or loop up to Oklahoma, just confirm with your host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because the protection plan and insurance do not extend across the border. Canada-bound trips may be possible with host approval. Message your host with your route, and they'll confirm everything before you hit the highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Snook RV trip?
Texas has some of the cheapest gas in the country, which is great news for your wallet. Regular gas around Snook and College Station typically runs $0.20 to $0.40 below the national average, making fuel one of the easier line items to plan. Expect roughly 7 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 18 to 22 MPG for a campervan rental Snook travelers love (Class B), and 12 to 16 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. A 300-mile loop to Austin and back in a Class C usually runs around $80 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Madisonville on your way north for big-rig-friendly pumps.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Snook?
For most of the year you can book a campground 2 to 4 weeks ahead and be fine, but a few dates demand earlier planning. Texas A&M home football weekends, the Snook ChiliFest in September, and Round Top Antiques Week (about 45 minutes south, twice yearly) fill nearby parks 3 to 6 months out. Texas state parks like Lake Somerville (Birch Creek and Nails Creek units) take reservations up to 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and the best lakefront sites go fast for spring weekends. Private parks like Great Escapes and 5D Ranch book directly on their websites. Lock in dates first, then book your RV on RVezy.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Snook, TX?
Driving around Snook is about as RV-friendly as Texas gets. The terrain is gently rolling Brazos Valley farmland, FM 60 connects Snook directly to College Station and Texas A&M, and SH 36 runs north-south for easy access to Caldwell and Sealy. Traffic is light outside of Aggie football game days, when University Drive and Texas Avenue in College Station get crowded; plan to roll in before noon or after kickoff. Watch for occasional low-water crossings on rural county roads after heavy spring storms, and keep an eye on the sky from May to October for pop-up thunderstorms. Stay on state highways with your RV and you'll have smooth sailing.
drivetexas.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at Snook-area campgrounds?
Snook-area campgrounds are well-equipped for any rig. Private parks like Galloping Snail, 5D Ranch, and Great Escapes Bryan-College Station offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, fresh water, sewer), hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and often a pool. Lake Somerville State Park provides water and 30/50-amp electric sites plus a centrally located dump station and potable water fill. If you need to dump or fill on the road, the Love's Travel Stop just up US-79 and Sonny's RV Park near College Station both have public dump stations. Pro tip: ask your host which sewer hose and freshwater adapters are included so you arrive ready to plug in.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-somerville-birch-creek/fees-facilitiesWhat's typically included inside an RV rental from Snook?
Most Snook RV rentals come ready to camp. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette/sofa sleepers (sleeps 4 to 8 in a typical Class C or travel trailer), a kitchen with a 3-burner propane stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with hot-water shower and toilet, roof AC and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel days. Many hosts include a generator for boondocking, an outdoor awning, a TV, and Wi-Fi or a hotspot for streaming on quiet evenings at Lake Somerville. Linens, kitchen kits, and camp chairs are often available as add-ons. Check the Amenities list on each RVezy listing or message the host to confirm exactly what's onboard.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Snook offer some genuinely useful add-ons that make your trip smoother. Common extras include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits with pots, pans, and dishes, generators or extra propane for off-grid stays, bike racks, kayaks, fire pits, and outdoor grills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Snook, Caldwell, or College Station, with a 30 to 60-minute walkthrough included. If you'd rather skip the tow, filter for Delivery and the host will bring the rig to your campground. Mileage policies vary by listing: many include 100 to 150 miles per day free with overage charges, and some offer unlimited mileage for an upgraded rate.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Snook,TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and entirely online through RVezy's secure platform. You'll pay your rental total (rental rate, fees, protection plan, and any add-ons) by credit card when you book, so there's no cash changing hands at pickup. A refundable security deposit is held on your card a few days before your trip and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape; deposit amounts vary by listing and are clearly shown before you book. Pro tip: do a quick video walk-around with your host at pickup and drop-off so any pre-existing scratches are documented from the start.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle Texas summer heat in my RV?
With a little planning, summer is still a great time for RV rental in Snook, TX. July and August highs run 93 to 96 F with heat-index values climbing past 110 F, so pick a rig with a 13,500 or 15,000 BTU roof AC (most Snook listings have it) and book a campsite with 50-amp service so you can run AC plus appliances without tripping breakers. Drive in the cool morning hours, park with the awning facing west for afternoon shade, and use reflective windshield covers. Lake Somerville and the Brazos River are perfect mid-day escapes. Pro tip: shoulder seasons (April, May, October, November) give you the smart-money combo of lower nightly rates and dreamy weather.
