Campgrounds and RV parks near Stephenville, TX

The main outdoor draw is Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glen Rose, where a trail system supports hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian use, and the Paluxy River is a popular spot for wading, swimming, and catch-and-release fishing when water levels allow. Preserved theropod and sauropod tracks are visible in the riverbed during low flow. Closer to town, families visit Fossil Rim Wildlife Center for drive-through safari loops, tour Dublin's Dr Pepper heritage sites, and walk the Bosque River Trail. Downtown Stephenville has a walkable square, and the city hosts rodeo and roping events year-round tied to Tarleton State University and local arenas. Equestrian travelers can base out of Hoof Prints Ranch, which sits within the local ranch and rodeo circuit.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. March through May brings mild days, wildflowers, and the year's heaviest rain, with May averaging the highest monthly totals. Thunderstorms and severe weather, including hail and occasional tornadoes, are most active in April and May, so travelers should track North Texas forecasts from the National Weather Service Fort Worth office. Summer is hot. Daytime highs frequently exceed 90 degrees from June through September, and July and August routinely push into the mid-90s and higher. Shaded sites, 50-amp service for air conditioning, and early-morning outdoor activity become important. Dinosaur Valley State Park's busy season runs March through November, and weekends fill quickly. Winters are generally mild during the day but can drop below freezing at night. Snow is rare and light. It is a good time for lower rates and open availability, though occasional cold snaps and freezing rain do occur.

Most private parks in the Stephenville area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, water, and sewer on level pull-through sites, with picnic tables at many sites. Amenities such as showers, laundry, and on-site stores vary by park; some equestrian-oriented properties include stalls and arenas but lighter guest amenities. Roads into the area are paved state highways and farm-to-market routes, and access to the listed campgrounds is straightforward for larger rigs. Cell coverage is generally good in town and along US-377 and US-281, but can weaken on rural county roads. At Dinosaur Valley State Park, campers arriving after hours find their check-in packet in the foyer of Park Headquarters, and campers without a reservation must register at Park Headquarters by 9 a.m.
