Overview of camping near Uhland
Uhland sits on Farm Road 21 about eleven miles northeast of San Marcos on the Hays-Caldwell county line, and roughly 20 miles south of Austin. The city lies in a growing corridor between I-35 and SH 130, about 11 miles from San Marcos and 20 miles from Austin, which puts RV travelers within easy reach of San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, Lockhart, and the wider Texas Hill Country in under 30 minutes.
RV parks in the immediate area lean toward full-hookup private resorts rather than public campgrounds. Longhorn RV Resort and Buda Place serve travelers heading toward Austin, while Pecan Park Riverside RV Park and San Marcos Springs RV Park cluster near the San Marcos River corridor. Trailmarker RV Park rounds out the options for renters looking for a straightforward overnight or extended stay along the I-35 corridor.
Public camping in the region is anchored by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department sites, most notably McKinney Falls State Park near Austin. Private parks handle the bulk of full-hookup demand, since state park sites tend to book far in advance for weekends and holidays.
Things to do near Uhland
The San Marcos River is the region's headline attraction. The spring-fed San Marcos River bubbles to life from hundreds of springs in the city's center and stays a refreshing 72 degrees year round. Tubers typically put in at City Park and exit at Rio Vista Park, a float that lasts roughly an hour depending on flow rate and where riders enter and exit.
Lion's Club Tube Rental is the sole tubing outfitter on the San Marcos River within the city limits, based at City Park, offering tube, life jacket, and storage box rental plus shuttle service. Kayaking and paddleboarding are also permitted with personal or rented gear.
Off the water, families can visit McKinney Falls State Park near Austin for hiking, mountain biking, and swimming in Onion Creek. Outlet shopping in San Marcos, historic downtown Lockhart, and the many parks along the San Marcos River round out a trip.

Central Texas has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. San Marcos averages roughly 165 days per year of comfortable weather, and the best times to visit are mid-February through mid-May and October to November. Spring and fall bring the most temperate conditions for hiking, tubing, and sightseeing.
Summer is peak tubing and swimming season, but it is also the hottest stretch, with August highs averaging around 97 degrees Fahrenheit. Weekends on the San Marcos River can be very busy, and the city now manages access to Rio Vista Park during summer to control capacity. RV travelers should plan to arrive at parks and put-ins early.
Winters are generally mild and dry, with occasional cold fronts. May is the wettest month and February the driest, and a secondary rainfall peak arrives in the fall. Access to trails across Onion Creek at McKinney Falls can be affected by creek conditions after rainfall, so contact the park for current trail access information.

RV was great! We had a wonderful time renting it for a weekend at COTA. Jesse was very responsive and helpful anytime we needed it.

Jesse is great! This is my second time renting a camper from him and he has been very easy to work with. We were camping locally and he even stopped by to check on us the day after our departure and brought us an outdoor rug just in case we got some rain! I highly recommend him and we will certainly be using him again in the future!

Booking RV sites near Uhland
Private RV parks around Uhland, including Longhorn RV Resort, Buda Place, Pecan Park Riverside RV Park, San Marcos Springs RV Park, and Trailmarker RV Park, generally accept reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Weekends between spring break and Halloween book fastest, particularly around Texas State University home football games and river-tubing weekends.
Public sites use the Texas State Parks reservation system. Advance reservations at McKinney Falls State Park are recommended, especially during peak season or weekend stays, and reservations can typically be made up to five months in advance. When the park reaches maximum capacity it closes to day-use visitors without a reservation, and closures are common on weekends and holidays, so day passes should be purchased ahead as well.
What to expect on arrival
Expect flat to gently rolling terrain, live oaks and pecans, and easy interstate access. Most private RV parks in the Uhland, Kyle, Buda, and San Marcos corridor offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and Wi-Fi. Cell coverage is generally good across the corridor thanks to proximity to Austin.
At state parks, check-in procedures are strict. The gate is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and late arrivals must call the park before 4:15 p.m. on the arrival date for late-arrival instructions. A day-use fee of $6 applies per person 13 and older in addition to any camping fees.
On the river, prepare for crowds on summer weekends, rocky footing, and strong current below the Rio Vista dam. Swimming is allowed in Onion Creek, but the park does not have lifeguards and visitors swim at their own risk. Bring water shoes, sun protection, and a dry bag for valuables.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Uhland, TX?
RV rental in Uhland is generally affordable thanks to its rural setting between Austin and San Marcos. On RVezy, you will typically find travel trailers from around $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $295 per night, and larger Class A coaches from $250 to $425 per night. Booking midweek (Sunday to Thursday) and traveling in the shoulder months of March, April, or October usually delivers the best value. Pro tip: search Uhland on RVezy, sort by price, and message hosts directly to ask about weekly discounts, which many owners offer for stays of 5 or more nights.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Uhland,%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Uhland, Texas?
Great news for first-time renters: your regular Class C Texas driver's license (or any standard U.S. or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Uhland. The Texas Department of Public Safety does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for non-commercial RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes used for personal travel. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club along with your home license. All RVezy guests must be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the platform during booking, so you can lock in your trip from the couch.
tdlr.texas.gov/What protection is included when I rent an RV in Uhland?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Uhland on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you financial peace of mind without arranging your own policy. During checkout you choose from different protection tiers so you can pick the deductible and coverage that fits your comfort level: this is set by RVezy, not the host. Pro tip: if you are a first-time renter heading to Hill Country with kids, the higher tier is often worth the small daily upcharge for the lower deductible alone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Uhland RV rental?
Booking is low risk: RVezy (not the host) sets a standardized cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, including a grace period right after booking so you can change your mind without penalty. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out your trip is. You will see the full cancellation terms at checkout and in your RVezy dashboard. If a host has to cancel, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so your plans stay protected. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Uhland RV trip dates, knowing the grace period has your back if plans shift.

Once on the road, your pup will love the dog-friendly trails at McKinney Falls State Park about 20 miles north, the leash-friendly San Marcos River Walk roughly 11 miles southwest, and Lockhart State Park about 15 miles east. Most Hill Country campgrounds, including Pecan Park RV Resort in San Marcos, allow leashed pets. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and bring a portable shade canopy, because Central Texas sun is intense.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/mckinney-fallsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or property near Uhland?
Yes, RV delivery in Uhland is one of the most popular options on RVezy and is a great choice if you have never towed or driven a large rig. Many local hosts will deliver, level, and set up the RV at your chosen campground, ranch property, or driveway, then walk you through every system before they leave. Popular delivery destinations include Pecan Park RV Resort in San Marcos, Lockhart State Park, McKinney Falls State Park, and private ranches around Martindale and Kyle. Delivery fees typically run a few dollars per mile round trip. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery on RVezy, then ask the host about a stationary setup, perfect for a Texas wedding, family reunion, or Austin City Limits stay.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106974-Delivery-optionsHow far can I travel on an RV road trip from Uhland?
You've got Texas-sized range from Uhland's central location between Austin and San Marcos. A classic RV road trip from Uhland might hit Lockhart (20 miles, BBQ capital of Texas), Austin (25 miles), Fredericksburg wine country (75 miles), Garner State Park on the Frio River (155 miles), Padre Island National Seashore (240 miles), or Big Bend National Park (460 miles). Pro tip: if you're planning a Big Bend loop, book an RV rental with unlimited mileage to skip the math and just enjoy the drive.
nps.gov/bibe/index.htmWhere can I camp near Uhland, TX?

Lockhart State Park (15 miles east) offers a quiet, wooded loop with electric and water sites plus a 9-hole golf course. McKinney Falls State Park (20 miles north in Austin) features limestone swimming holes and shaded sites. American Campground in San Marcos is a budget-friendly favorite for RV camping in Uhland visitors. For something rustic, Plum Creek's private Hipcamp ranches put you closer to nature. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parksWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Uhland?
Spring and fall are the sweet spot. From mid-March to late May, daytime highs in the Uhland area sit between 70°F and 85°F, wildflowers explode along Highway 21, and Hill Country rivers are flowing strong. October and November bring crisp 60°F to 80°F days, fewer crowds, and great BBQ weather in nearby Lockhart. Summer (June to September) regularly tops 95°F to 100°F+, so you'll want an RV with strong air conditioning and dual roof units. Winter is mild and uncrowded with highs in the 55°F to 70°F range — perfect for snowbirds. Pro tip: book your Uhland RV trip for the third weekend in April to catch peak bluebonnets along nearby FM 1854 and the back roads to Lockhart.
weather.gov/ewx/I've never rented an RV before — how does it work in Uhland?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host in the Uhland area gives a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the slide-outs, generator, water and waste tanks, propane, leveling, and how to hook up at a campground. They'll share their cell number for the trip and answer questions along the way. RVezy support is also available 24/7. Many Uhland hosts offer delivery and on-site setup, which means you don't even have to drive the RV if that feels intimidating. Pro tip: pick a smaller travel trailer or Class C motorhome for your first trip, and head to nearby Lockhart State Park (20 minutes away) for an easy shakedown weekend before committing to a longer adventure.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lockhartWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is one phone call away, day or night. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed, anywhere on your Uhland RV trip from the I-35 corridor to remote Big Bend. Your host is also your first point of contact for quirks specific to their rig, and most local Uhland hosts respond within minutes. If a mechanical issue affects your trip, RVezy support helps coordinate next steps. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before pickup and snap a photo of the RV tire pressure sticker, since Texas summer heat is a leading cause of tire issues on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take my Uhland RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Yes to road-tripping across the U.S. From Uhland you can legally drive your RV rental into New Mexico, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and beyond: Carlsbad Caverns is roughly 500 miles west and New Orleans is about 530 miles east. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stops at the U.S. border. Cross-border trips to Canada may be possible with host approval; message them through the listing before booking. Pro tip: if a southern border experience is on your bucket list, swap Mexico for Big Bend National Park, where the Rio Grande forms a stretch of stunning canyon country you can explore from the U.S. side.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how should I budget?
Plan smart and fuel is very manageable. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves — you'll just notice a 15% to 25% drop in your tow vehicle's MPG. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches deliver 6 to 10 MPG. Texas gas prices typically run $0.20 to $0.40 below the national average, with stations in San Marcos and Lockhart usually cheaper than Austin proper. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in San Marcos before you leave — competitive prices, 100+ pumps, and the cleanest restrooms on your Uhland RV trip.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Uhland?
Earlier is better, especially for Texas State Parks. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department opens reservations 5 months ahead of your arrival date, and popular weekend dates at Lockhart, McKinney Falls, and Pedernales Falls State Parks can sell out within minutes during spring and fall. Private parks like Pecan Park RV Resort and American Campground in San Marcos generally take bookings 6 to 12 months out and are easier to grab last-minute midweek. For festival weekends (SXSW, ACL, Austin F1) book 4 to 6 months ahead. Pro tip: create your Texas State Parks account before your booking date opens so you are ready the moment reservations go live.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Uhland?
Driving an RV around Uhland is refreshingly easy compared to big-city Texas. Highway 21 runs straight through town with wide shoulders and gentle curves, connecting you to San Marcos (11 miles southwest) and Bastrop (31 miles northeast). The SH-130 toll road, just minutes away, lets you skip Austin's notorious I-35 traffic with an 85 MPH speed limit (the highest in the U.S.) and easy on-ramps for big rigs. Avoid driving through downtown Austin during weekday rush hours of 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Watch for sudden Hill Country thunderstorms in spring and the occasional low-water crossing. Pro tip: use SH-130 northbound to skip Austin entirely on your way to Waco or DFW — it's worth every toll dollar.
txdot.gov/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Uhland?
Most campgrounds near Uhland are well-equipped for a smooth stay. Private parks like Pecan Park RV Resort and American Campground in San Marcos offer full hookups (50/30-amp electric, water, and sewer) at every site, plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Texas State Parks like Lockhart and McKinney Falls offer water and 30/50-amp electric at most sites, with shared dump stations on the way out. Free potable water fills are available at Buc-ee's in San Marcos and most Texas State Parks. Pro tip: book a full-hookup site for stays longer than 2 nights in summer — running dual ACs to fight 100°F heat will drain a battery fast without shore power.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/facilities/campsitesWhat's typically included inside an Uhland RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how dialed-in most rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Uhland comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds (sleeping 4 to 8 total), a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, stove, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, roof and dash AC, propane furnace, and DOT-approved seatbelts for travel. Most include a generator for boondocking, a flat-screen TV, and Bluetooth stereo; many now offer mobile Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer the same comforts minus the cab. Pro tip: message the host to confirm linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are included — many Uhland hosts throw in a fully stocked kitchen kit at no extra charge.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options do Uhland RV hosts offer?
Plenty, and they make life easier. Common add-ons from Uhland hosts include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor rug ($15 to $40), generators (often included), portable grills, bike racks, kayak racks, baby gear, and pet kits. Mileage policies usually run 100 to 150 free miles per night with overages at $0.30 to $0.50 per mile, and some campervan rental Uhland listings offer unlimited mileage for road-trippers. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Uhland, Kyle, Buda, or San Marcos, with delivery available to most Central Texas campgrounds. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book — many hosts discount the package vs. a la carte pricing.
fmcsa.dot.gov/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled inside RVezy, with no cash or off-platform transfers. You pay the full rental cost (plus protection and any add-ons) by credit card when you book, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged unless there is an issue. Deposit amounts vary by RV but typically range from $500 to $1,500 for an Uhland motorhome rental. After a clean return, the hold is released within a few business days. Pro tip: do a quick video walk-around with your host at both pickup and drop-off, since it is the single best way to ensure your full deposit comes right back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I beat the Texas summer heat in an RV near Uhland?
Pick the right rig and plan smart. Look for an RVezy listing in Uhland with dual roof air conditioners, reflective window covers, and a working generator so you can stay cool even at parks without 50-amp service. Drive in the early morning or evening when temps drop and traffic on I-35 thins out, and choose shaded campsites at Lockhart State Park or sites along the San Marcos River at Pecan Park RV Resort, where tubing and swimming are steps away. Hydrate constantly and limit midday hikes from June through September when highs commonly reach the upper 90s. Pro tip: aim your RV so the awning side faces east in the morning and west in late afternoon for a noticeable comfort boost.
