Campgrounds and RV parks near Wyldwood, TX

Bastrop State Park is the primary draw, with more than seven miles of hiking trails winding through recovering loblolly pine forest, a seasonal swimming pool operated by the City of Bastrop Parks and Recreation Department, and fishing at the half-acre Lake Mina, where no license is required. The scenic Park Road 1C connects Bastrop and Buescher state parks along a hilly route popular with cyclists. McKinney Roughs Nature Park, run by the Lower Colorado River Authority, covers 1,140 acres of pine forest and box canyons with trails open to hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders, plus Zip Lost Pines, a dual zipline tour. Lake Bastrop North Shore and South Shore parks offer kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing across roughly 900 surface acres of water.

Central Texas has a humid subtropical climate, and Bastrop County summers are hot and often oppressive. July and August routinely reach the mid to upper 90s Fahrenheit, and triple-digit afternoons are common. RV travelers visiting in summer should plan for strong shore-power demand for air conditioning, and the Bastrop State Park pool draws heavy use through the summer months. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for camping. March through May brings mild temperatures, blooming wildflowers across McKinney Roughs, and the region's wettest month, May, which averages just over four inches of rain. October and November offer trail-friendly temperatures without the summer heat and are popular with weekend campers. Winters are short and generally mild, with January highs near the low 60s Fahrenheit and lows near the upper 30s. Measurable snow is essentially absent. Spring storms can bring tornado risk and heavy rain, and drought years elevate wildfire risk, with burn bans issued periodically by county and park agencies.

Expect a mix of shaded pine forest and open post oak savannah terrain. Cell service is generally strong across the Wyldwood corridor. Grocery stores, fuel, healthcare, and restaurants are easily accessible in nearby Bastrop and Cedar Creek, and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is a short drive west on Highway 71. Roads into private RV parks off Highway 71 are typically paved or hard-packed gravel and accommodate larger rigs, though travelers should confirm site length and hookup type before arrival. Texas state parks charge a per-person daily entrance fee in addition to the campsite rate, waived for Texas State Park Pass holders. Burn bans are common in dry stretches and can restrict campfires and charcoal grilling with little notice, so check park alerts before departure. Leashes no longer than six feet are required for pets in state parks, and glass containers are prohibited at LCRA park campsites.
