Campgrounds and RV parks near Yorktown, TX

The Yorktown Historical Museum is housed in two historic buildings on the National Register of Historic Places and features exhibits including a hand-operated elevator, a 1900s-era fire wagon, the first area lawman's pistol, Indian arrowheads, and an antique doll collection. The museum also features exhibits related to Lithuanian culture and the first Lithuanians in Yorktown, including 19th-century Lithuanian work tools, a fishing net, and cattle branding irons. Yorktown City Park adds playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking paths that suit families. Day trips reach farther than the town itself. Goliad State Park and Historic Site, about an hour south, preserves the reconstructed Mission Espíritu Santo and serves as a take-out point for the 6.6-mile Goliad Paddling Trail on the San Antonio River, with fishing, hiking, and paddle launches on site. Victoria and Cuero add museums, county parks, and river access, and the Gulf Coast at Port Lavaca and Matagorda Bay is within a reasonable drive for beach days.

South-central Texas around Yorktown has a long warm season and short, mild winters. Spring is often the most comfortable stretch for RV travel: wildflowers bloom along roadsides in March and April, daytime highs sit in a pleasant range, and state park calendars fill quickly on weekends. Late spring can bring thunderstorms and the first heat spikes. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs commonly in the mid-90s Fahrenheit and heat indices well above that. July is the wettest month in nearby Cuero at around 112 mm of rainfall, while February is the driest at about 32 mm, and Atlantic hurricane season peaks from August into October, which can push tropical moisture inland and prompt coastal park closures. Fall cools gradually through October and November and is a favorite window for longer stays, festivals, and hunting-season traffic. Winter is short and generally mild, with occasional cold fronts pushing lows near freezing; snow is rare, and most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round. Goliad State Park's busiest season is December through March.

Roads into Yorktown are flat to gently rolling and easy for larger rigs, with US 87 and US 77A as the main approaches. Cell coverage is generally reliable in town and along the highways, but can drop off on ranch roads and inside wooded sections of Goliad State Park. Expect full-hookup sites, gravel or grass pads, and modest shade at most nearby private parks. Campsites at Goliad range from sites with water only to full hookups, plus a handful of screened shelters. Summer campers should plan for strong sun, mosquitoes near river bottoms, and afternoon storms, and rising levels of the San Antonio River occasionally mean closures of that portion of the campground, so check for notices before arriving. Wildlife includes deer, armadillos, and wild turkey in the brush country.
