Campgrounds near Dammeron Valley
Dammeron Valley is a small unincorporated community in Washington County, Utah, sitting on State Route 18 between St. George and Pine Valley Mountain. At roughly 5,000 feet elevation, it runs noticeably cooler than the desert floor around St. George, which makes it a useful RV base for exploring the region's red-rock parks without the peak summer heat of lower elevations.
The area gives RV travelers access to a mix of state parks, private resorts, and canyon campgrounds within a short drive. Snow Canyon State Park is a 7,400-acre park managed by Utah State Parks, roughly 11 miles northwest of St. George, with Zion National Park about an hour east via I-15 and S.R. 9. Gunlock State Park lies 15 miles northwest of St. George on Gunlock Road/Old 91.
Named options close to Dammeron Valley include Veyo Pool and Crawdad Canyon, Holmstead Ranch Resort, Snow Canyon State Park, Gunlock State Park, and Hidden Springs RV Resort - Utah. Together they cover developed RV hookups, primitive lakeside sites, and canyon tent camping, so trip planning usually comes down to whether the priority is water access, hookups, or hiking.
Things to do near Dammeron Valley
Snow Canyon is the anchor attraction for most trips. The park features red Navajo sandstone capped by black lava rock, with popular activities including photography, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and camping. A three-mile paved bike path connects to the campground, and dogs are permitted on all park trails when leashed.
Water-based days center on Gunlock. Gunlock Reservoir's warm, calm waters suit boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, and swimming, and the park's iconic waterfalls typically flow during late spring after heavy snowmelt or rain, though they are not guaranteed every year.
For family time close to camp, Veyo Pool and Crawdad Canyon combines a spring-fed swimming pool, a canyon stream, and bolted climbing walls in one private property.

- winter
December - February
50° / 34°F 20 mmMild days, near-freezing nights; higher terrain may see snow.
Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Dammeron Valley area. Early spring and fall use of Snow Canyon is especially appealing due to southern Utah's moderate climate, and shoulder-season nights at 5,000 feet stay comfortable enough for grilling and campfires when local fire restrictions allow. Spring and fall are also the best seasons for wildlife viewing at Snow Canyon.
Summer is a different story on the desert floor. Snow Canyon is a desert environment where summer temperatures frequently exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and flash flood risk exists during monsoon season from July through September. Dammeron Valley itself runs cooler than St. George thanks to elevation, which is why families use higher-elevation stops as a mid-day heat break.
Winter is mild by Utah standards but not warm. Low-elevation parks like Gunlock and Snow Canyon stay open year-round, while higher terrain toward Pine Valley Mountain can see snow. Warm reservoir waters in summer and a mild winter climate make Gunlock a destination in all four seasons.

Loved our experience with Sandy from start to finish. He communicated very well, including letting us know about the need to reserve a campsite ahead of time. The camper was very well stocked with kitchen items. The beds were soft and well prepared. They met us when we arrived to set up the RV and explain everything. The weather was very cold and so the water froze one morning. Sandy came right over within minutes and helped us get it going again. Very nice people and very honest. There were extra things we had ordered that we didn’t need so he offered to takeoff those charges. We would absolutely come back and use them again. We were a family with small children and they even agreed that it felt like home. Thank you for a great experience!

Sandy's bunkhouse RV trailer was amazing and had pretty much all the amenities we needed! Sandy was super communicative and helpful throughout the entire process. The delivery/pickup was smooth and easy, would definitely recommend to anyone!

How to book near Dammeron Valley
Utah State Parks handle reservations for Snow Canyon through their central system. Reservations can be made 48 hours to four months in advance online, and camping within 48 hours is walk-up only. All campsites and yurts are available on a four-month rolling basis, so on January 10 individual sites are available for reservation through May 10. Shoulder-season weekends fill quickly, so booking at the four-month mark is the safest approach.
Gunlock is different. There are no reservable campsites, but five first-come, first-served sites sit in a campground with a vault toilet, along with camping on the beaches. Arrive early on Friday for a weekend site.

What to expect at Dammeron Valley campgrounds
Sites vary widely by property. Snow Canyon's campground features 38 sites including options with water and electric hookups, primitive tent sites, walk-in hike-to sites, and group camping areas, with modern restrooms, showers, potable water, and an RV dump station. Sites 1 through 14 are narrow, so use of slide-outs or awnings is not guaranteed, which matters for larger rigs.
Gunlock is more rustic. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate, and access to vault toilets and a boat ramp, but the campgrounds do not have potable or running water, so bring plenty for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.
Expect strong sun, limited natural shade at desert sites, and cell coverage that drops off outside of St. George. Pets are welcome at Snow Canyon but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet.
