Campgrounds near Springdale, Utah
Springdale sits directly outside the South Entrance of Zion National Park, which makes it the primary staging town for RV travelers heading into Zion Canyon. During most of the year the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is accessed by shuttle bus only, and private vehicles are not permitted on the drive when the shuttle is running. Shuttles are free to ride and can be boarded in Springdale or at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center.
Camping options split cleanly between park-run and private. Inside the park, Watchman Campground - Zion National Park and South Campground - Zion National Park are both within walking distance of the visitor center and shuttle. Watchman is the RV-friendly choice with electric hookups in A and B loops, while South is tent-oriented and has no hookups.
On the town side, Zion Canyon Campground and RV Resort is the closest private RV park to the entrance, and Range RV Campground provides an additional Springdale-area option. Both suit larger rigs that want full hookups, showers, and easy shuttle access to Zion National Park.
Things to do near Springdale
The Zion Canyon shuttle is the backbone of any trip. Private vehicles are not allowed on the Scenic Drive during shuttle season, so visitors board at the Visitor Center or in Springdale. The drive runs roughly 8 miles one way and provides access to Angels Landing, The Narrows, and other popular trails. Everyone who hikes Angels Landing needs a permit issued through a seasonal lottery on Recreation.gov.
Several trails start right at the campgrounds. Hikers can access three trails directly from Watchman: the Watchman Trail, a moderate climb that ascends the peak behind the campground; the Archeology Trail, a short hike to a nearby archeological site; and the Pa'rus Trail, a paved walking and biking path that runs alongside the river and is the only trail in the park that allows dogs.
Families also wade the Virgin River, rent bikes to ride the Scenic Drive, and browse Springdale's outfitters, galleries, and restaurants a short walk from the park gate.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel. Daytime highs sit in a comfortable range, crowds are lighter than midsummer, and most park services run at full capacity. The canyon and most of the park's trails are only accessible by shuttle bus from approximately March through November each year.
Summer brings intense heat and the North American monsoon. Valleys and canyons near the South Entrance often heat past 100 degrees Fahrenheit during July and August. Afternoon thunderstorms can trigger flash flooding in slot canyons including The Narrows, so hikers should check the daily flood-potential rating before entering the river.
Winter is quiet but functional. November through February the park is slow but open, and winter months typically bring the highest precipitation of the year with both rain and light snow. Freezing nights are common, followed by daytime thaws, and the cold is seldom severe. Watchman Campground stays open year-round; South Campground closes at the end of October and reopens in early March.

Wonderful experience! Shaunna was great to work with! Prompt communication. She delivered and set-up, and was flexible with our arrival and departure times. Had an amazing time at Zion!

The trailer was as described and worked great.

Loved our experience with Sandy from start to finish. He communicated very well, including letting us know about the need to reserve a campsite ahead of time. The camper was very well stocked with kitchen items. The beds were soft and well prepared. They met us when we arrived to set up the RV and explain everything. The weather was very cold and so the water froze one morning. Sandy came right over within minutes and helped us get it going again. Very nice people and very honest. There were extra things we had ordered that we didn’t need so he offered to takeoff those charges. We would absolutely come back and use them again. We were a family with small children and they even agreed that it felt like home. Thank you for a great experience!
Catherine R. - Jan 2026
Sandy's bunkhouse RV trailer was amazing and had pretty much all the amenities we needed! Sandy was super communicative and helpful throughout the entire process. The delivery/pickup was smooth and easy, would definitely recommend to anyone!

How to book campgrounds near Zion
The two park-run campgrounds use Recreation.gov but on very different windows. Watchman Campground is open year-round and reservations are available six months in advance. Peak dates are typically claimed within minutes of release, so setting a calendar reminder for the six-month mark is standard practice.
Reservations for South Campground are available up to 14 days before arrival and may extend up to two days beyond this 14-day booking window. Sites fill within hours of becoming available, so setting an alarm for exactly 14 days out is a common strategy among repeat visitors.
Private options such as Zion Canyon Campground and RV Resort and Range RV Campground book directly through the property and generally open reservations much further out, which is useful when park sites are already gone.
What to expect on arrival
Expect vehicle-size checks. Beginning June 7, 2026, vehicles exceeding 35 feet 9 inches long, 11 feet 4 inches tall, or 7 feet 10 inches wide will not be allowed to travel through the park on the Zion Mt Carmel Highway, and large vehicles must enter and exit through the South Entrance in Springdale to reach the campgrounds. Larger RVs coming from the east need a tunnel escort or must reroute through Springdale.
Inside the park, hookups and services are limited. Facilities include flush toilets, potable water, a dump station, and trash collection, with no showers or laundry on site, though both are available in Springdale. Generators are not allowed at Watchman. At South Campground, generator use is restricted to 8 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Toxic cyanobacteria have been detected in the Virgin River, so campers should not submerge their heads or drink river water. Filter or bring drinking water, and keep pets out of the river.

To book on RVezy you generally need to be 25 or older and meet RVezy's approved driver requirements, with ID verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the US? Yes, every RV rental in Springdale booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can drive SR-9 toward Zion with confidence. During checkout you'll choose your protection tier, which covers damage to the RV based on the level you select. Booking your Springdale RV trip is low risk because RVezy applies a clear, standardized cancellation policy to every reservation, including a grace-period window where you can cancel for a full refund shortly after booking. Refund amounts after that depend on how far out your trip start date is, and RVezy may provide additional support if extraordinary circumstances like wildfires, flash floods, or major SR-9 closures around Zion affect your trip. Because RVezy manages cancellations directly, the rules are the same across every listing you browse. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best motorhomes for spring and fall in Springdale, and review the full cancellation policy on RVezy's Help Center before you confirm.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Springdale RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rentals in Springdale are just a filter click away on RVezy. Tick the Pet-Friendly box and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers from hosts who welcome dogs, sometimes for a small cleaning fee. Heads up on Zion itself: pets aren't allowed on shuttle buses or on any trail except the paved Pa'rus Trail, which runs about 1.75 miles along the Virgin River and is beautiful at sunset. For longer hikes, many travelers use a local pet boarding service in nearby Rockville or Hurricane. Pro tip: Watchman Campground inside Zion allows leashed pets at your campsite, making it an ideal basecamp for a family RV trip in Springdale with four-legged members.
nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/pets.htmCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Springdale?
Yes, RV delivery in Springdale is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's ideal if you're flying into Las Vegas or St. George and don't want to drive a large rig along SR-9. Many hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental in Springdale directly at Watchman Campground, South Campground, or Zion Canyon Campground & RV Resort, then walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are set by each host and typically scale with distance from their location. Pro tip: message the host before booking, confirm your campsite number, and ask for an afternoon arrival so you can settle in before sunset under the Watchman.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Springdale%2C%20Utah&Delivery=trueHow far can I drive from Springdale on a typical RV rental?

Just outside the gate, Zion Canyon Campground & RV Resort has full hookups for rigs up to 52 feet plus a pool and free shuttle stop. Twenty minutes west, Zion River Resort in Virgin offers paved full-hookup pads, a heated pool, and pickleball. Pro tip: for RV camping Springdale in peak season, book Watchman exactly 6 months ahead on Recreation.gov the day reservations open.
nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htmWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Springdale?
Spring (mid-March through May) and fall (mid-September through early November) are the sweet spot for any Springdale RV trip, daytime temperatures typically sit in a pleasant 65 to 80 F range and the canyon glows in the low-angle light. Summer (June to August) brings highs often in the 95 to 100 F range and afternoon monsoon thunderstorms with flash-flood risk in slot canyons like the Narrows, so plan early-morning hikes and afternoon AC time. Winter (December to February) is quietly magical: snow-dusted red rock, daytime highs often in the 50s, and better availability and pricing on Springdale RV rentals. Pro tip: October weekdays are a local favorite, the cottonwoods along the Virgin River turn gold and Watchman sites are easier to score.
weather.gov/slc/climateI've never driven an RV before, will I be okay around Springdale?
You'll do great, first time renting an RV in Springdale is easier than you'd think because the town is built for RV travelers. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, and the dump station, so ask all the questions you want. Springdale itself sits along flat SR-9 with a 25 mph town speed limit, and most campgrounds offer pull-through sites. Important: if your rig is over 11 ft 4 in tall or 7 ft 10 in wide, you'll need a tunnel permit (or be restricted altogether) for the Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel, so check current NPS guidance before you go. Pro tip: stick to the south entrance and use the park shuttle, you'll never need to drive the canyon road.
nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/large-vehicles.htmWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my Zion trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on SR-9, a dead battery at Lava Point, or a propane issue at Zion Canyon Campground is handled with one phone call. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for quick how-to questions, and RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before leaving the host's driveway and screenshot the host's walkthrough notes, cell service inside Zion Canyon is spotty but reliable in downtown Springdale.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Springdale RV rental across state lines to Arizona or Nevada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Springdale across state lines is one of the best uses of your rental, RVezy bookings are generally covered for travel throughout the continental US and Canada. Popular cross-border routes include south to the Grand Canyon North Rim via US-89A (around 155 miles), west to Las Vegas via I-15 (around 160 miles), and east to Page, AZ and Lake Powell (around 110 miles). Heads up: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection don't extend across that border. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm your itinerary, especially if you're planning a Mighty Five loop, some hosts offer discounted mileage packages for multi-state routes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Springdale RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables on a Springdale RV trip, but it's easy to plan for. Class B campervans average roughly 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, Class A around 7 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Gas in Springdale typically runs higher than the Utah state average because it's a gateway town, so fuel up in Hurricane or La Verkin (around 20 miles west on SR-9) where prices are usually lower. A typical 5-day Zion loop from Springdale covers around 400 to 600 miles. Pro tip: stations in Hurricane often have the best diesel and gas prices in the area and plenty of room to maneuver a larger rig.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near Springdale?
Earlier than you think. Watchman Campground inside Zion is the gold standard and opens reservations exactly 6 months ahead at 10 a.m. ET on Recreation.gov, peak spring and fall dates sell out within minutes. South Campground is also on Recreation.gov with a 6-month window. Private parks like Zion Canyon Campground & RV Resort and Zion River Resort accept bookings 12+ months out and tend to fill 3 to 4 months ahead for April, May, September, and October. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the 6-month-to-the-day mark, log into Recreation.gov 10 minutes early, and have your dates and rig length pre-filled, you'll be camping under the Watchman before you know it.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232445What are the driving conditions like around Springdale and Zion?
Driving into Springdale is scenic and relaxed, SR-9 follows the Virgin River through farmland and red cliffs at around 35 to 45 mph. The catch inside Zion is the Mt. Carmel Highway and tunnel: oversized vehicles (generally taller than 11 ft 4 in, wider than 7 ft 10 in including mirrors, or over the posted length and weight limits) require a tunnel permit and ranger escort, and restrictions can change, so check current UDOT and NPS guidance before your trip. If your rig exceeds those limits, enter via the south entrance from Springdale and use the free park shuttle, or detour via I-15 and SR-20 to reach Bryce. Pro tip: watch for bighorn sheep near Big Bend and slow down at dusk, mule deer cross SR-9 frequently between Rockville and the park entrance.
nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/large-vehicles.htmWhat amenities do campgrounds near Springdale offer for RVs?
You'll find everything you need within a few miles of town. Watchman Campground offers 30-amp electric, potable water fill stations, and a dump station near the entrance (no sewer hookups at sites). South Campground has no hookups but allows generators. Just outside the park, Zion Canyon Campground & RV Resort and Zion River Resort offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, and showers. The Zion Canyon Village dump station and propane fill is right on SR-9 in Springdale for easy access. Pro tip: most Springdale campgrounds are at 3,900 ft elevation with hot summer afternoons, request a shaded site under the cottonwoods at Zion River Resort or a riverside spot at Zion Canyon Campground.
nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/watchman-campground.htmWhat features and amenities come standard in Springdale RV rentals?
You'll be impressed by what's packed into a typical RVezy rental. Most motorhome and travel trailer listings in Springdale come with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave), a bathroom with shower, comfortable sleeping for 4 to 8, air conditioning (essential here, summer regularly hits the high 90s F), a furnace for chilly desert nights, fresh, grey, and black water tanks, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many include a generator, outdoor awning, and camp chairs, and some hosts offer starter kitchen kits or Wi-Fi hotspots. Pro tip: cell signal drops inside Zion Canyon, so if you plan to work remotely from your campervan rental in Springdale, ask the host about a Starlink-equipped rig, they're increasingly common in the Zion area.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Springdale%2C%20UtahWhat add-ons can I get with my Springdale RV rental, and how does pickup work?
Hosts in Springdale offer some of the most useful add-ons for a Zion trip: outdoor camp kits, e-bikes (great for the Pa'rus Trail), portable solar panels, generators, paddleboards for Sand Hollow Reservoir, and stargazing gear for Zion's dark skies. Pickup is straightforward, you'll meet the host at their location (often in Hurricane, La Verkin, St. George, or Springdale itself) for a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough, or pay a delivery fee to have the RV waiting at your campground. Mileage policies vary by listing, with many hosts offering 100 to 150 free miles per day and a per-mile rate beyond that. Pro tip: if you're tackling the Mighty Five, ask your host about a prepaid mileage package, it's often cheaper than per-mile overage.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Springdale%2C%20UtahHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, you book and pay directly through RVezy with a credit card, no cash exchange with the host. At checkout you'll see the nightly rate, cleaning fee, RVezy service fee, your chosen protection plan, and the refundable security deposit, which is set by the host and typically falls in the $500 to $1,500 range depending on the rig. The security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after your trip once the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. To avoid surprises, photograph the rig at pickup and dropoff and follow the host's checkout list. Pro tip: dump tanks at the free Watchman dump station or the Zion Canyon Village dump station before returning to avoid a dump fee on your final bill.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow hot does it get in Springdale, and how do I keep the RV cool?
Summer in Springdale is real desert heat, June through August regularly sees highs in the 95 to 100 F range with overnight lows often in the 70s. The good news: nearly every RVezy rental here comes with rooftop air conditioning sized for the climate, and most Springdale-area campgrounds (Zion Canyon Campground, Zion River Resort, Watchman) offer 30 or 50-amp shore power so you can run AC throughout the day. To stretch your battery if boondocking, park in shade, close window shades during peak sun, and cook outside on the camp stove. Pro tip: hike Angels Landing or the Narrows at sunrise, retreat to your air-conditioned RV by midday, then enjoy the Virgin River from your campsite in the afternoon, that's the local rhythm for a summer Zion RV trip.
