Campgrounds and RV parks near Barre, VT

Barre sits in central Vermont's granite country, about nine miles north of Williamstown and a short drive from Montpelier, the state capital. RV travelers use the city as a base for the Rock of Ages granite quarry, the Vermont Granite Museum, and the Thunder Road racetrack, along with Ben and Jerry's factory tours in nearby Waterbury and the seven-park Groton State Forest to the east. The closest full-service option is Limehurst Lake Campground, roughly nine miles south of Barre on Route 14 in Williamstown, positioned near Montpelier, Waterbury's Ben and Jerry factory, Stowe, and the Rock of Ages quarries. Other nearby choices include Onion River Campground in Marshfield along the Winooski River, Northeast Pass RV Park, and Meadowcrest Campground. For a more rustic setting, Kettle Pond State Park is part of the 27,000-acre Groton State Forest and offers remote paddling, camping, fishing, and hiking. The mix of private RV parks and state-forest sites gives travelers flexibility on hookups, price point, and how deep into the woods they want to go.

Vermont State Parks, including Kettle Pond, use a single reservation system. Bookings can be made up to 11 months in advance on a rolling basis, and same-day reservations are accepted until 2 pm online, through the call center, or by contacting the park directly. Reservations made more than 7 days in advance require a two-night minimum, while one-night stays are allowed within 7 days of arrival, any day of the week. Remote sites at Kettle Pond continue to require a two-night minimum stay. Private campgrounds book directly. Limehurst Lake suggests reservations and applies a three-night minimum on all rentals and sites during holiday weekends. Onion River and the smaller local parks take reservations by phone or through their websites. For summer weekends and foliage season, book eight to twelve weeks out.
