Campgrounds and RV parks near East Barre, VT

East Barre sits in central Vermont's granite country, within a short drive of Montpelier, the Green Mountains, and Groton State Forest. RV travelers use the area as a base for exploring the state capital region, the Rock of Ages quarries, and the lakes and ponds tucked into the surrounding hills. Options range from full-hookup private parks to rustic state-forest sites. Limehurst Lake Campground, at 4104 VT Route 14 in Williamstown, sits about 9 miles south of Barre and pairs a lakeside setting with a full suite of RV amenities. Onion River Campground, Northeast Pass RV Park, and Meadowcrest Campground round out the private-park choices closer to the East Barre area. For a more remote experience, Kettle Pond State Park sits near Marshfield, one of seven state parks located in Groton State Forest, on Vermont Route 232 two miles west of Groton. It is the closest state-run option and works best for tent campers, paddlers, or small rigs prepared for backcountry-style sites.

Vermont State Parks, including Kettle Pond, use a single reservation system run by the state. Camping reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance on a rolling basis, with new dates opening daily at 9 a.m. Reservations made more than 7 days in advance require a two-night minimum, and one-night stays are allowed within 7 days of arrival, any day of the week. Remote sites at Waterbury Reservoir, Osmore Pond, and Kettle Pond keep a two-night minimum. Private parks book directly. At Limehurst Lake Campground, reservations are suggested, and calling the campground office or using its website is the standard route. Onion River Campground, Northeast Pass RV Park, and Meadowcrest Campground each handle bookings through their own sites or by phone. Walk-ins are possible when space is available, and most parks even during summer have a few open sites, especially on weekdays.
