Campgrounds near Jericho, Vermont
Jericho sits at the western foot of Mount Mansfield in Chittenden County, about twenty minutes east of Burlington and within easy reach of the Green Mountains. The town is a primary jumping-off point for Underhill State Park on the western slopes of Mount Mansfield, at 4,395 feet the highest peak in Vermont, which serves as the main western trailhead for summiting Mansfield via the Sunset Ridge Trail. Most RV travelers base themselves in the surrounding valley towns rather than the park itself.
Campground choices split into two groups. Underhill State Park sits closest to the trailheads but is walk-in only, so RV renters typically look to private grounds nearby. Maple Grove Campground in Fairfax offers RV and tent sites with full amenities, and Lone Pine Campsites offers a similar full-service setup within roughly a half-hour drive.
Closer to the Smugglers' Notch side of Mansfield, Smugglers Notch RV Village and Brewster River Campground put campers within minutes of the resort area and hiking access on the eastern flank of the mountain.
Things to do near Jericho
Hiking dominates the area. The Sunset Ridge Trail is rated strenuous, running approximately 6.6 miles round trip from Underhill State Park to The Chin, Mount Mansfield's highest point at 4,395 feet, with steep, rocky sections and exposed ridgeline hiking above treeline. Vermont's Long Trail traverses the summit ridge, and with several trails from the other side of the mountain, many loops are possible.
Water activities center on the Lamoille and Brewster rivers. Horseback riding, fishing, bicycling, and canoe or kayak outings on the Lamoille River are all available locally. Guests staying at Brewster River Campground can walk to a swimming hole and a twenty-foot waterfall on site.
Off-mountain options include the Stowe area roughly ten miles east over the notch, cycling on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, and scenic drives through Smugglers' Notch when Route 108 is open.

The camping window in this part of Vermont is short. Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally, typically from late May through mid-October, with several state parks closing after the second Monday in October. Underhill State Park runs from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through the second Monday in October.
Late spring can be muddy at higher elevations, and mud season sometimes delays trail and road access. Summer brings warm days and reliable camping conditions, though popular sites fill early. Fall is peak season for foliage, with September and early October drawing heavy demand across the Mount Mansfield corridor.
Winter closes state park camping to vehicle access entirely. The Route 108 pass through Smugglers' Notch closes to through traffic once snow arrives and does not reopen until spring. RV travelers planning a shoulder-season trip should confirm each campground's operating dates directly, since private grounds vary and some close well before Vermont State Parks do.
How to book a site
Vermont State Parks handle reservations through a central system. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance on a rolling daily basis, and same-day reservations are accepted until 2 pm on the day of arrival. There are three ways to book: the reservation website, the Reservation Call Center at 1-888-409-7579 (Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm), or, during the operating season, the park directly.
Reservations made more than 7 days in advance require a two-night minimum. One-night stays are allowed within 7 days of arrival, any day of the week. Note that Underhill State Park campsites are walk-in only and are not suitable for RVs or tent trailers, since the park road is narrow and maneuvering larger rigs is very difficult.
Private campgrounds book directly. Brewster River Campground accepts online reservations only, while Maple Grove Campground, Lone Pine Campsites, and Smugglers Notch RV Village take bookings through their own websites.
What to expect on the ground
RV renters should match the campground to the rig. Brewster River Campground welcomes RVs up to 28 feet in length, but large motorhomes are not permitted, and no hookups are offered on site. Smaller RVs, camper vans, popups, and trailers are welcome. For full hookups, Smugglers Notch RV Village and Maple Grove Campground are the better fit.
Expect forested, mountain-valley terrain with variable cell service and cool nights even in summer. Do not bring firewood into Vermont state parks from outside the state unless it is packaged, labeled, and heat-treated, with a label showing certification by the USDA or another state's agriculture department.
Parking at trailheads fills fast on summer and fall weekends, so plan early starts and be ready to carpool from your campsite when possible.
