Campgrounds near North Bennington
North Bennington sits in Vermont's southwest corner, minutes from downtown Bennington and within reach of the Green Mountain National Forest. RV travelers use the area as a base for southern Vermont's Shires region, with private campgrounds along Route 9 and one state park campground east of town on the mountain plateau.
The closest private options include Greenwood Lodge and Campsites at 311 Greenwood Drive in Woodford, family-owned since 1960, plus Pine Hollow Campground. To the east on Route 9, Woodford State Park sits at 2,400 feet, the highest elevation campground of any park in Vermont, on a mountain plateau surrounding Adams Reservoir. North of town in Arlington, Camping on the Battenkill lines a well-known trout river, and Lake Lauderdale Campground sits just across the New York line.
Most sites in this area are wooded and rustic. Full hookups are limited to the private parks. State park sites do not offer hookups but include flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station.
Things to do near North Bennington
North Bennington itself is home to the Park-McCullough Historic Governor's Mansion at 1 Park Street, with grounds open dawn to dusk year-round and museum tours in season. Families walk the Mile-Around-Woods carriage road, tour the covered bridges along the Walloomsac River, and drive a few minutes into Bennington for the 306-foot Bennington Battle Monument, dedicated in 1891 to commemorate the Battle of Bennington.
Outdoor activity centers on Woodford State Park and the surrounding national forest. The 2.7-mile Woodford Trail circles the park and reservoir, while the shorter Atwood Trail (0.5 miles) runs along a portion of the shoreline. Anglers fish Adams Reservoir for stocked brook trout, and the park rents canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. The Battenkill River draws fly fishers and tubers, and the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail cross Route 9 east of town.

Camping in southern Vermont is a warm-weather activity. Woodford State Park operates from Memorial Day weekend through the second Monday in October, and Greenwood Lodge and Campsites is open from late May to late October. Camping on the Battenkill runs from approximately April to October, with its busiest weeks from late June to late August. Winter camping options in the immediate area are effectively closed.
Summer brings the warmest weather and the busiest weeks. July and August fill quickly at riverside and reservoir-front sites, and weekends in July are typically booked out weeks in advance. Bug pressure peaks from late May through June, and ticks are a real concern in Vermont parks, so a quality repellent is recommended.
Fall foliage generally peaks from late September through mid-October at elevation around Woodford, arriving one to two weeks earlier than in the valleys below. Winter can be harsh, with heavy snowfall limiting access to certain areas.
How to book a campsite near North Bennington
State park sites are reserved through the Vermont State Parks system. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance on a rolling daily basis, and same-day reservations are accepted until 2 pm online, through the call center, or by contacting the park directly. The Reservation Call Center is 1-888-409-7579, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm. Popular waterfront sites at Woodford State Park book early, so RV travelers aiming for peak weekends should reserve as soon as the rolling window opens.
Private campgrounds in the area take reservations directly by phone, on their own websites, or through third-party platforms. Do not bring firewood into Vermont from outside the state unless it is packaged, labeled, and heat-treated, and certified by the USDA or another state's agriculture department. Buy firewood locally or on-site to avoid turnaway at the gate.
What to expect at campgrounds near North Bennington
Expect wooded sites, cool mountain nights, and limited cell service. At 2,400 feet, Woodford sits on a mountain plateau surrounding Adams Reservoir, in a high-elevation spruce, fir, and birch forest, so nighttime temperatures run noticeably cooler than in the Bennington valley even in July. In addition to 4 cabins, the campground has 76 tent and RV sites and 20 lean-tos, with a dump station but no hookups.
Private campgrounds offer more amenities. Greenwood Lodge and Campsites has 23 RV sites with water and electric hookups, 17 tent sites with fire rings and picnic tables but no hookups, and a dump station on-site. Camping on the Battenkill offers trout fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and tubing on the river, plus a playground, swimming area, walking trails, and a dog run. Larger rigs should confirm site length and turn access when booking, especially at older private parks off Route 9.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near North Bennington, VT
How much does it cost to rent an RV in North Bennington?
RV rental in North Bennington is approachable, with most travel trailers starting around $100 to $175 per night and Class C motorhomes typically running $200 to $325 per night on RVezy. Because hosts set their own pricing, you will see real range across rigs, and shoulder seasons like late April, early May, and November often unlock the best deals. For a cheap RV rental in North Bennington, filter by travel trailers with delivery so you skip the fuel cost of driving a big motorhome through the Taconic foothills. Pro tip: midweek bookings in summer can shave noticeably off your nightly rate compared to peak foliage weekends in early October.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Bennington%2C%20VermontWhat license do I need to rent an RV in North Bennington?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Vermont, with no special endorsement or CDL required for the motorhomes and travel trailers listed on RVezy. Approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy platform during booking, so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit from your local auto association. Most first-time renters are surprised at how quickly they are cleared to hit Route 7 north toward Manchester.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and protection included when I book in North Bennington?
Yes, every RV rental in North Bennington booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on exploring the Green Mountains. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV and gives you real financial peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), so you can match coverage to your comfort level and trip length. That means if a stray branch on a back road near Lake Shaftsbury dings the awning, you are not facing a surprise bill. One less thing to worry about on your Vermont getaway.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my North Bennington RV trip changes?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every rental (not the individual host), so you get consistent treatment whether you booked a campervan rental in North Bennington or a fifth wheel headed to Woodford State Park. Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your plans are protected. Full details live in the RVezy Help Center, but the takeaway is simple: you are not locked in the moment you click book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a North Bennington RV trip?
Absolutely, and Vermont is one of the most dog-friendly states in New England for it. Many hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in North Bennington, and you can filter listings by the Pet-Friendly tag to find them in seconds. Once you arrive, your pup will love the off-leash hours at Mile-Around Woods just outside the village, plus the dog-welcoming trails at Lake Paran and the Robert Frost Trail. Vermont State Parks, including nearby Woodford and Lake Shaftsbury, allow leashed pets at campsites for a small nightly fee. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have a large breed, since some rigs have specific pet weight or breed notes.
vtstateparks.com/pets.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campground in North Bennington?
Yes, RV delivery in North Bennington is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, and many local hosts offer it as an add-on. They'll tow the trailer or drive the motorhome straight to your site at Woodford State Park, Greenwood Lodge and Campsites, or even a private driveway in the village, then handle the full setup including leveling, hookups, and a walkthrough. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, with some hosts offering free delivery within a set radius. This is the secret weapon for a first-time renter who'd rather not back a 30-foot rig down Route 67A. Just check the listing's delivery section or ask the host directly.
vtrans.vermont.gov/How many miles do I get with my RV rental, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got options. Most North Bennington hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, which is plenty for hopping between Bennington Battle Monument, Lake Shaftsbury, and Mount Equinox without watching the odometer. If you're planning a longer loop, look for listings tagged with RV rental with unlimited mileage, especially for trips to Lake George (about 50 miles west), Burlington (140 miles north), or the White Mountains. Extra mileage typically runs $0.30 to $0.50 per mile if you exceed the included allowance. Pro tip: map your route before booking and message the host, who can sometimes bundle extra miles into your nightly rate for popular destinations.
vtrans.vermont.gov/highwayWhere are the best campgrounds near North Bennington for RV camping?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near North Bennington include Woodford State Park (about 10 miles east on Route 9, with around 100 sites, a dump station, and Adams Reservoir swimming), Greenwood Lodge and Campsites in Bennington (full hookups and a private pond), Camping on the Battenkill in Arlington (riverside RV sites about 20 minutes north), and Lake Shaftsbury State Park (a smaller, family-friendly park up Route 7A). For a true Vermont feel, Emerald Lake State Park near East Dorset is worth the 40-minute drive. RV camping in North Bennington really shines because you can be in deep woods within 15 minutes of dinner in the village. Book early for foliage season.
vtstateparks.com/woodford.htmlWhen is the best time of year to plan a North Bennington RV trip?
Honestly, North Bennington is a four-season gem, but late September through mid-October is the headliner: foliage explodes across the Taconic and Green Mountains, with daytime highs in the 55 to 70 F range. Summer (June through August) brings warm 75 to 85 F days perfect for swimming at Lake Paran and paddling the Battenkill. Spring shoulder season (mid-May to early June) is quieter and cheaper, though mud season in April can mean soft dirt roads. Winters dip into the 10 to 30 F range with regular snow, and some hosts offer winterized rigs for ski trips to nearby Mount Snow. Insider tip: book foliage weekends at least 4 to 6 months out, because every RV in the region gets snapped up fast.
weather.gov/aly/I've never rented an RV before. Is North Bennington a good place to start?
It's actually one of the best first-time renting an RV experiences in the Northeast. Roads around North Bennington are well-paved, moderately trafficked, and have plenty of pull-offs, so you can ease into driving without the stress of a major metro. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering propane, water, slides, and dumping, and you can text them throughout your trip with questions. Pair that with the included 24/7 roadside assistance and you're never on your own. Pro tip: start with a travel trailer delivered to Woodford State Park for night one, so your first night is about s'mores by Adams Reservoir rather than figuring out how to back into a site.
vtrans.vermont.gov/highway/safetyWhat happens if something goes wrong with my RV on the road?
You are covered around the clock. Every motorhome rental in North Bennington booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 7, a dead battery at the Woodford trailhead, or a tow off the Molly Stark Byway is just a phone call away. The roadside team handles tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest service location. For mechanical questions, your host is your first call and can usually walk you through small fixes like a tripped GFCI or a finicky water pump. Save both numbers in your phone before you pull out of the driveway and you are set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat road trip routes can I take from North Bennington in an RV?
North Bennington sits at a sweet spot for an RV road trip from North Bennington into three states. Popular runs include Manchester and Stowe up Route 7 (about 145 miles to Stowe through classic Vermont villages), Lake George and the Adirondacks west into New York (50 miles to Lake George Village), the Berkshires south into Massachusetts (Williamstown is just 15 miles, Lenox about 40), and the White Mountains east through Brattleboro (about 160 miles to North Conway). Cross-state travel is totally fine, but Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance, and Canada trips need host approval in advance. Local tip: the Molly Stark Scenic Byway (Route 9) east toward Wilmington is a stunner in any season.
vtrans.vermont.gov/planning/mapsWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my North Bennington RV rental?
Plan smart and you'll have no surprises. Class C motorhomes around North Bennington typically get 8 to 12 mpg, Class B campervans run 16 to 22 mpg, and your tow vehicle plus travel trailer usually lands at 10 to 14 mpg. Vermont gas prices tend to track a bit above the national average, so check stations in Bennington on Route 7 or just over the New York line in Hoosick Falls for the cheapest fill-ups. For a typical 4-day, 300-mile loop through southern Vermont in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: the hills around Woodford and Searsburg burn more gas than the flats, so top off before heading east on Route 9.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near North Bennington?
For Vermont State Parks like Woodford and Lake Shaftsbury, reservations open 11 months ahead through the official Vermont State Parks system, and foliage weekends in late September and early October can sell out within days of opening. For private parks like Greenwood Lodge and Camping on the Battenkill, 2 to 4 months ahead is usually safe for summer weekends. Midweek and shoulder-season trips often have availability just a week or two out. Pro tip: if your dream campground is full, check for cancellations on Sunday evenings, when many travelers release sites they no longer need. Pair early campground booking with an early RVezy reservation and your fall foliage trip is locked in.
vtstateparks.com/reservations.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around North Bennington?
Driving an RV around North Bennington is mellow compared to most regions, which is why it's such a friendly base for new renters. Route 7, Route 7A, and Route 67A are wide and well-maintained, with gentle grades through the Walloomsac River valley. The bigger challenges are Route 9 east through Woodford (steady climbs to 2,300 feet, lower gears recommended) and the narrow covered bridges in the area, which most RVs should bypass via posted detour signs. Winter brings snow and occasional black ice from December through March, so book a winterized RV and pack chains if you're heading up to Mount Snow. Local tip: avoid Main Street in downtown Bennington at 3 p.m. on school days, when traffic backs up near the high school.
vtrans.vermont.gov/operations/traveler-infoWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near North Bennington?
You'll find a great mix. Woodford State Park has 103 sites, flush toilets, token-operated hot showers, a dump station, and potable water fills, though no individual hookups (it's a classic Vermont state park). Greenwood Lodge and Camping on the Battenkill offer full 30 and 50-amp hookups, sewer, Wi-Fi, and laundry. For dumping and water on the road, the Bennington Walmart area and most full-service private parks accept day-use dumping for $10 to $20 if you ask in advance. Cell service is solid in the valley but spotty in the higher elevations near Searsburg and the Aiken Wilderness. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before heading to a state park, since spigots can be a hike from your site.
vtstateparks.com/amenities.htmlWhat is included inside a typical North Bennington RV rental?
More than you would expect. A typical campervan rental in North Bennington or larger motorhome on RVezy comes with sleeping for 2 to 8 (queen beds, bunks, or convertible dinettes), a kitchen with stove, fridge, sink, and cookware, a wet bath or full bathroom with toilet and shower, heating and air conditioning, and seatbelted travel seating. Many rigs include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Generator, Wi-Fi hotspot, and solar are common add-ons listed individually. Linens and kitchen kits are often offered as bundles for a small fee, so you can travel light. Pro tip: ask your host about a four-season package if you are visiting between November and April for the heated tanks you will want in Vermont winters.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Bennington%2C%20VermontWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for my North Bennington rental?
Hosts customize the experience to make your life easy. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Vermont include linens and towels, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, generator use, Wi-Fi hotspots, bike racks, and kayak racks. Pickup is typically at the host's home in the North Bennington, Bennington, or Shaftsbury area, with most hosts offering a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough covering propane, water, slides, and dumping. Drop-off windows are usually in the morning, but many hosts will accommodate later returns for a small fee. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a propane refill into one booking message and many hosts will discount the package.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=North%20Bennington%2C%20VermontHow does payment and the security deposit work for a North Bennington RV rental?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay your booking total through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup (not charged) and released after the trip, assuming no damage or extra fees like excess mileage. To keep things smooth, do a thorough walkaround with your host at pickup and drop-off, snap photos of the exterior, interior, and odometer, and return the rig with the fuel and propane at the levels noted in the listing. Transparent, stress-free, and built into the platform.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my North Bennington RV rental into Canada or other states?
Interstate travel is the whole point, so heading to Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, or anywhere else in the Lower 48 is generally welcomed by hosts in North Bennington. Cross-border trips into Canada (Montreal is a popular run north) are sometimes allowed but require host approval in advance and confirmation that the protection plan extends across the border, so ask before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection coverage does not apply there. Bring your passport or enhanced license for Canada and be ready to declare any food or alcohol at the border. Insider tip: a long weekend swing through the Adirondacks plus Lake Champlain is a perfect cross-state loop from North Bennington.
