Campgrounds and RV parks near Northfield, VT

Northfield sits in central Vermont's Green Mountains, roughly a dozen miles south of Montpelier and within an hour of Waterbury, Stowe, and Barre. The area gives RV travelers a mix of state park campgrounds and privately run RV parks, most set on lakes or forested hillsides. Allis State Park, established in 1928 as Vermont's second developed state park, sits on the summit of Bear Hill and offers tent, RV, and lean-to camping originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Closer to the Barre-Williamstown area, Limehurst Lake Campground sits beside a private lake on wooded acreage roughly 9 miles south of Barre, with full-hookup RV sites. Lake Champagne RV and Abel Mountain Campground are additional private options in the Randolph area with family-oriented amenities. For a larger reservoir-based state park within driving range, Little River State Park is part of Mt. Mansfield State Forest and is home to central Vermont's largest and most popular campground, with 81 tent and RV campsites, 20 lean-tos, and five cabins.

Vermont State Parks use a single centralized reservation system. Camping reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance on a rolling basis. Reservations made more than 7 days in advance require a two-night minimum, while one-night stays are allowed within 7 days of arrival, any day of the week. Reservations for Allis State Park and Little River State Park can be made online through the Vermont State Parks site or by phone at 1-888-409-7579. Private parks like Limehurst Lake Campground, Lake Champagne RV, and Abel Mountain Campground are booked directly through each campground's own website or phone line, with policies that vary by property. RVers should note that Vermont state parks do not offer site hookups. A sanitary dump station is available, but there are no water, electric, or sewer connections at individual sites. Book a private campground if full hookup service is required.
