Campgrounds and RV parks near Waterbury, VT

Waterbury sits in central Vermont at the base of the Green Mountains, with the Waterbury Reservoir on its northwest side and Mount Mansfield rising just beyond. The town works well as a base for RV travellers because state parks, private campgrounds, and major attractions cluster within a short drive. Ben & Jerry's, Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Stowe, and the Alchemist Brewery are all nearby, and Interstate 89 makes the area easy to reach. The closest campground is Little River State Park, a Vermont State Parks property inside Mount Mansfield State Forest on the Waterbury Reservoir shoreline. It is central Vermont's largest campground, with 81 tent and RV sites, 20 lean-tos, and five cabins. Additional options within roughly 30 minutes include Smugglers' Notch State Park Campground, Underhill State Park on the west side of Mount Mansfield, Brewster River Campground in Jeffersonville, and Smugglers Notch RV Village. RV renters should note that Vermont's state park campgrounds do not offer hookups. Full-service RV sites are found at private parks.

Vermont State Parks campgrounds, including Little River, Underhill, and Smugglers' Notch, are reserved through the Vermont State Parks reservation system, either online or by phone through the Reservation Call Center. Camping reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance on a rolling daily basis, with new dates opening each morning at 9 a.m. Reservations made more than 7 days in advance require a two-night minimum, while one-night stays are allowed within 7 days of arrival, any day of the week. For RV travellers, note that Vermont State Parks sites have no electric, water, or sewer hookups, though a sanitary dump station is available at Little River. Private options such as Brewster River Campground and Smugglers Notch RV Village are booked directly through each operator's website, and full hookups are only available at Smugglers Notch RV Village.
