Camping near West Brattleboro, Vermont
West Brattleboro sits in Windham County in southeastern Vermont, just west of downtown Brattleboro along Route 9 and within a short drive of the Connecticut River and the New Hampshire line. The area abuts the Connecticut River and shares Vermont's eastern border with New Hampshire, putting RV renters close to both Green Mountain forest roads and river-valley towns.
Campground options in the area range from a state park to full-service private parks. Fort Dummer State Park offers a wooded, quieter experience close to town, while Kampfires - Campground, Inn and Entertainment, Brattleboro North KOA Journey, and Kenolie Village Campground provide more amenity-heavy stays with hookups and family programming. Just across the river in New Hampshire, Hinsdale Campground At Thicket Hill Village gives another nearby option.
The location works well as a base for day trips to Mount Snow, the Marlboro hills, and southern Vermont covered-bridge routes, while keeping grocery, fuel, and dump-station services within easy reach.
Things to do around West Brattleboro
Outdoor activity centers on the Connecticut and West Rivers, the Green Mountain National Forest to the west, and short summit hikes such as Wantastiquet Mountain across the state line. Paddling, tubing, and swimming holes are common summer draws, and gravel forest roads open up cycling and wildlife viewing.
Downtown Brattleboro adds farmers markets, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, and Retreat Farm trails. Families staying at Kampfires - Campground, Inn and Entertainment or Brattleboro North KOA Journey typically have pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities on site.
Fall foliage drives on Route 9 toward Wilmington and Route 100 north are a major seasonal draw, and winter visitors head to Mount Snow and Hogback for skiing and snowshoeing.

Summers are warm and humid, winters are cold and snowy, and cloud cover is common year round. The main RV season runs from late spring through mid-fall. Fort Dummer State Park operates from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and most private campgrounds in the area open in spring and close after Columbus Day weekend, so shoulder-season trips need confirmation before booking travel.
Leaf-peeping in late September and early October is the busiest stretch of the year. Sites at Brattleboro North KOA Journey, Kampfires - Campground, Inn and Entertainment, and Kenolie Village Campground typically book out weeks in advance for foliage weekends, and minimum-stay rules tighten across the region.
Summer brings warm days, humid nights, and afternoon thunderstorms. October is the wettest month, so early-fall trips should include rain gear and awning tie-downs. Winter camping is limited: expect road salt, plow banks at pull-ins, and closed water systems at seasonal parks.
How to book campgrounds near West Brattleboro
Fort Dummer State Park is reserved through the Vermont State Parks system, which allows camping reservations up to 11 months in advance on a rolling basis. Sites there have no hookups, though the park does have an RV sanitary station, so confirm length limits when reserving.
Private parks such as Brattleboro North KOA Journey, Kampfires - Campground, Inn and Entertainment, Kenolie Village Campground, and Hinsdale Campground At Thicket Hill Village take reservations directly through their own websites, or through the KOA reservation portal in the case of Brattleboro North KOA Journey. Full-hookup and pull-through sites for larger Class A and fifth-wheel rentals should be booked as early as possible for July, August, and foliage weekends.
Minimum-stay rules of two or three nights are common on holiday and October weekends.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the campgrounds are a mix of paved state routes and narrower back roads with steep grades and tight turns west of town. Renters driving larger motorhomes should plan routes on Route 9 and I-91 rather than shortcuts through the hills, and check low-clearance notes for covered bridges.
Cell coverage is reliable near I-91 and downtown Brattleboro but drops off quickly in the forested hills. Pack for cool nights even in summer: valley temperatures can fall well below daytime highs. Bears are active across southern Vermont, so store food and trash inside the rig or in provided bear boxes.
Dump stations and propane are available at several private campgrounds and at commercial fuel stops along Route 9 and Putney Road.

Driving in and around West Brattleboro is very RV-friendly as long as you know what to expect. I-91 runs north-south and is wide, smooth, and easy in any rig. Route 9 (the Molly Stark Scenic Byway) is the classic east-west route with twisty climbs over Hogback Mountain, take it slow and downshift on descents. Avoid downtown Brattleboro's narrow Main Street in larger Class A rigs; instead, use the Putney Road (Route 5) approach. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so check 511VT for road conditions. Pro tip: keep a half tank of fuel in winter, gas stations thin out west of Wilmington.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Brattleboro%2C%20VermontHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is placed as a hold on your card around the time of pickup, then released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid any deposit issues, do a quick walkaround photo session at pickup and dropoff, return with fuel and propane at the agreed level, and dump the tanks if your host requests it.

Yes, winter RV rentals in West Brattleboro are available and can be a magical way to access Mount Snow, Stratton, and other southern Vermont ski areas. Look for listings that mention four-season use, heated and enclosed holding tanks, a working furnace, and the ability to plug into shore power at a winter-open campground. Some private sites near Wilmington stay open year-round with plowed access. Pro tip: ask your host to demo the furnace during the walkthrough, and pack extra propane, a 30-pound tank can deplete quickly on single-digit nights.
