Campgrounds near Goldendale, Washington
Goldendale sits in Klickitat County in south-central Washington, between the Simcoe Mountains and the Columbia River Gorge. The town serves as a practical base for RV travelers, with campgrounds spread across two distinct landscapes: shaded high-elevation pine forest north of town, and the open river canyon along the Washington-Oregon border to the south.
Maryhill State Park anchors the river side, a 99-acre waterfront park with full-hookup sites and direct Columbia River access. Peach Beach RV Park sits nearby on the same stretch of shoreline, and Stargazers RV Resort offers another private option in the area. Across the river in Oregon, Deschutes River State Recreation Area Campground occupies the mouth of the Deschutes Canyon.
Brooks Memorial State Park, north of Goldendale on US-97, offers a cooler, forested alternative at higher elevation in the Simcoe Mountains. Together these options cover full-hookup RV travel, dry-camping loops, and access to attractions including the Goldendale Observatory, Maryhill Museum of Art, and the Stonehenge replica memorial.
Things to do near Goldendale
The Columbia River drives most outdoor activity in the area. Maryhill State Park has a swimming beach, two watercraft launches, and 216 feet of dock for boat handling, along with 4,700 feet of waterfront for fishing and river access. The reach near Maryhill is a well-known windsurfing zone, and steady afternoon winds funnel through the gorge most summer days.
North of town, Brooks Memorial State Park offers hiking through ponderosa pine and Oregon white oak, with trails along the Little Klickitat River and routes that climb toward ridges with Mount Hood views. The Goldendale Observatory sits just outside town and runs evening astronomy programs.
Cultural stops include the Maryhill Museum of Art, the full-scale Stonehenge replica WWI memorial, and several tasting rooms along Highway 14.

Summer is the peak window. The river corridor warms quickly, skies stay clear, and reservations at Maryhill State Park fill well ahead during the summer season. Wind is a constant: gusts that make the gorge famous for windsurfing also challenge awnings and tents, so secure setups are essential. Along the Lower Deschutes, fire restrictions ban open campfires and charcoal from June 1 through October 15, though propane and white gas stoves remain permitted.
Spring brings wildflowers to the Deschutes Canyon, followed by green hillsides through May. Brooks Memorial operates with full water service at hookup sites from mid-April through late October, while Deschutes River State Recreation Area runs reduced loops outside peak season, with B Loop, T Loop, and group camps closed November 1 through March 31.
Winter is cold and quiet. Goldendale sees snow from November through February, January is typically the snowiest month, and many state-park amenities switch to limited service. Maryhill State Park stays open year-round, though water is limited to the dump station in winter.
How to book a campground near Goldendale
Washington State Parks campgrounds, including Maryhill and Brooks Memorial, use the Washington Going to Camp reservation system at washington.goingtocamp.com, with sites bookable up to nine months in advance. A Discover Pass is required for vehicle entry to Washington state parks for day use. Brooks Memorial also offers three reservable wall tents, which book through the same system.
Deschutes River State Recreation Area, just across the Columbia in Oregon, books through the Oregon State Parks reservation system, with reservations available up to six months out. The A Loop switches to first-come, first-served from December 1 through March 31.
Private options including Stargazers RV Resort and Peach Beach RV Park reserve directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, especially around major holidays, fill earliest.
What to expect on the ground
Maryhill State Park has 72 sites total, including 50 full-hookup sites with 30/50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer, plus 20 standard sites and 2 primitive sites. Maximum site length is 60 feet. The campground has flush toilets, showers, and a dump station. Expect noise: BNSF tracks run near the park and US-97 truck traffic carries through.
Brooks Memorial sits at higher elevation in pine forest, with full-hookup RV sites, 50-amp electrical service, and a dump station. Water at hookup sites runs mid-April through late October. Sites 8-10 and 16-18 sit under overhead electric lines, and highway noise from US-97 is audible throughout the campground.
Deschutes River State Recreation Area sits close to active rail lines, and trains use horns at all hours. Generators are restricted to noon through 6 p.m.

If plans change, open your booking in your RVezy dashboard and your refund options will be laid out clearly. For weather-related concerns like wildfire smoke or winter storms in the Columbia Gorge, contact RVezy support to review your options.

parks.wa.gov/know-before-you-go/pets-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Goldendale?
Yes, RV delivery in Goldendale is one of the most popular options on RVezy and a game-changer if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to Maryhill State Park, Brooks Memorial State Park, Peach Beach RV Park on the Columbia, or a private property in town, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are typically charged per mile from the host's location, so closer campgrounds cost less. Filter by Delivery on the search page, then message the host with your campsite number to get a quote.

Each listing shows its mileage policy clearly before you book, and add-on mile packs are usually available if you want extra cushion for a longer loop.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Goldendale%2C%20WashingtonWhere are the best campgrounds near Goldendale for an RV trip?
The best campgrounds near Goldendale cover everything from full-hookup resorts to riverside state parks. Maryhill State Park sits right on the Columbia River about 12 miles south of town with 50 full-hookup sites and a swim beach. Brooks Memorial State Park, 13 miles north on Highway 97, offers shaded ponderosa-pine sites that are perfect for hot summer afternoons. Peach Beach RV Park on the Columbia has long pull-throughs next to a working orchard. Columbia Hills Historical State Park near Horsethief Lake is a short drive west for hiking and petroglyph tours, and several smaller private parks in town round out the choices for an RV camping Goldendale trip.
parks.state.wa.us/532/Brooks-MemorialWhen is the best time to visit Goldendale in an RV?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Goldendale, with July daytime highs averaging in the mid-80s Fahrenheit and very little rain, perfect for stargazing at Goldendale Observatory State Park, one of the darkest skies in the Pacific Northwest. June and September are smart shoulder months with daytime temperatures in the comfortable 70s and quieter campgrounds. Spring brings wildflowers to the Dalles Mountain Ranch hike at Columbia Hills, and fall paints the Klickitat River canyon in gold. Winters are cold with December highs around 40 degrees and snow possible at higher elevations, but a motorhome rental in Goldendale stays popular year-round for storm-watching and dark-sky weekends.
weather.gov/pdt/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay around Goldendale?
You've got this, and Goldendale is one of the friendlier places for a first time renting an RV. Highway 97 and Highway 142 are wide and lightly trafficked, and traffic in town is minimal, so you will quickly get comfortable with the rig. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, holding tanks, propane, and backup camera so nothing is a surprise, and they stay reachable by message throughout your trip. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop in the campground before heading out, then plan your first drive as the short, scenic hop down to Maryhill State Park.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-timeWhat happens if I break down during my Goldendale RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Goldendale on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. One call gets a technician dispatched, even on remote stretches like Highway 14 between Maryhill and Lyle or the climb up to Satus Pass. Your host is also just a message away to troubleshoot quirky RV systems, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone at pickup and keep driving with confidence.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are the best RV road trips from Goldendale?
An RV road trip from Goldendale opens up some of the Pacific Northwest's best scenery. The classic Columbia River Gorge loop runs west on Highway 14 to Stevenson and back via Oregon's Historic Columbia River Highway, around 180 miles total. Head about 100 miles southwest to Mount Hood for alpine hiking, 110 miles to Portland's food scene, or roughly 250 miles to the Oregon Coast at Cannon Beach. Adventurous travelers can drive north about 130 miles to Mount Rainier National Park. Cross-state travel into Oregon is welcome on your RVezy rental, but trips into Mexico are not permitted because the protection plan does not cover travel south of the border.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/scenic-byways-road-tripsWhat should I budget for fuel on a Goldendale RV rental?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest cost after the rental itself, but Goldendale is a forgiving place to budget for it. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A coaches sit around 6 to 10 MPG. Washington gas prices run a bit higher than the national average, so plenty of RVers cross the Biggs Bridge into Oregon, where prices are typically 30 to 50 cents per gallon lower and an attendant pumps for you. Fill up in Goldendale or Biggs before heading into rural Klickitat County, where stations get sparse.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Goldendale?
Booking early is the move, especially for summer weekends. Washington State Parks (including Maryhill, Brooks Memorial, and Columbia Hills) take reservations through the Washington State Parks reservation system up to nine months in advance, and prime riverfront sites at Maryhill State Park sell out within minutes of opening for July and August weekends. Private parks like Peach Beach RV Park and Stargazers RV Resort fill up around the Goldendale Observatory's summer star parties and the Maryhill Loops Road events. Pro tip: aim for a Sunday-through-Thursday stay, you'll often find walk-up availability even in peak season and pay less per night.
parks.wa.gov/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Goldendale?
Driving around Goldendale is mostly relaxed two-lane country roads with light traffic, easy navigation, and stunning views, with two things worth knowing. First, the Columbia River Gorge is famously windy, and gusts of 30 to 50 mph along Highway 14 are normal, especially on summer afternoons, so keep both hands on the wheel and slow down in a tall motorhome. Second, Satus Pass on Highway 97 (3,107 feet) can get snow and ice from November through March, with chain requirements possible. Check WSDOT's real-time pass cameras and road reports before you roll, and you'll cruise through with no surprises.
wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpassesWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Goldendale?

Maryhill State Park offers 50 full-hookup sites with water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer, plus flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Goldendale%2C%20WashingtonHow does payment and the security deposit work on a Goldendale RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at booking, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A refundable security deposit is collected separately from the booking payment and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV was returned in the same condition, on time, with the holding tanks dumped and fuel topped off. To avoid deductions, take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's checklist, and message through the RVezy app for a written record. That's it, you are ready to enjoy your campervan rental in Goldendale.

Yes, winter RV camping near Goldendale is a quiet, magical experience, and several hosts list four-season rigs specifically for cold-weather trips. Look for listings that mention heated and enclosed holding tanks, a propane furnace, dual-pane windows, and 30/50-amp shore power capability, all of which keep you comfortable when overnight lows dip into the teens. Maryhill State Park stays open year-round with full hookups, and Goldendale Observatory's winter night skies are arguably the best of the year. Pro tip: ask your host for an extra propane tank and bring a small space heater for shore-power nights, then settle in for hot cocoa under a sky full of stars.
