Campgrounds and RV parks near Lavalette, WV

Beech Fork Lake is the main draw. The 720-acre reservoir with 31 miles of shoreline supports bass, catfish, and bluegill fishing, and the privately operated marina at Beech Fork State Park rents pontoons, canoes, and paddle boats. The park adds hiking trails, a swimming pool complex, and athletic fields for volleyball, tennis, basketball, and softball. Twelvepole Creek and the surrounding hollows offer quieter paddling and wildlife viewing. Huntington, a short drive north, provides the region's shopping, dining, and family attractions, including Ritter Park, the Huntington Museum of Art, Camden Park, and Marshall University sports events. Milton, next to the Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday, is home to Blenko Glass, where visitors can watch hand-blown glass production on weekday tours. For day trips, Yatesville Lake State Park across the Kentucky line offers additional trails, an 18-hole golf course, and boating on a 2,242-acre lake.

Peak RV season around Lavalette runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Beech Fork State Park's swimming pool, marina, and full campground services are open and the lake is busy with boaters. Summer weekends fill quickly, and holiday weekends at the state park often book to capacity several weeks in advance. Spring and fall are quieter and more comfortable for hiking. October brings strong hardwood color across the Appalachian foothills, and the Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday runs family-oriented Spooktacular weekends every weekend of the month. Nights turn cool by mid-October, so RV renters should plan for furnace use. Winter narrows the options. At Beech Fork State Park, the Old Orchard Campground stays open year-round, while Four Coves, Moxley Branch, and Lake View campgrounds close seasonally, with Four Coves running mid-April through mid-October and Lake View April through mid-November. Yatesville Lake State Park closes its campground in mid-November. Many private parks also shut off water during freezing months, so travelers between December and March should confirm hookup availability directly with each campground.

State park campgrounds around Lavalette are wooded and hilly, with paved parking pads at every Beech Fork site and fully equipped bathhouses. Beech Fork has a mix of full-hookup and electric-only loops, with Four Coves and Lake View limited to 30-amp electric. Wi-Fi is available at the park headquarters and Old Orchard Campground, but cell service can be spotty in the lower loops near the lake. Larger Class A rigs should ask about specific site numbers before booking. The Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday, in Milton just off I-64, accommodates rigs from small tent trailers to big rigs and offers pull-through sites, cable TV, and a KOA Kampstore. Creekside Cabins and RV Park and The Falls Campground provide smaller, quieter settings. Deer, raccoons, and black bears live throughout the region, so food should be stored inside the RV overnight. Firewood should be purchased locally to avoid moving pests between counties.
