Late spring and early summer bring green hills and wildflowers, but also the wettest weather, with June often the rainiest month. Summer is peak season. Popular electric sites at Yellowstone Lake book out months ahead, and holiday weekends fill first. Fall is a strong shoulder season for the Driftless bluffs, with cooler nights that can dip below freezing by early November and color usually peaking in mid-October. Winter camping is limited. Belmont Mound is open year-round for day use, and while some Wisconsin State Park System sites remain reservable through winter, plowing and water service are limited. Most private RV parks in the Belmont area close for the season, and Yellowstone Lake's flush toilets, showers, and dump station operate only seasonally.

The Belmont area is rural and rolling, with lead-mining history, dairy farms, and small villages rather than resort infrastructure. Cell service can be spotty at some campgrounds, so plan to download maps and reservation confirmations in advance. RV sites near Belmont mix full-hookup private parks with more rustic public options. Yellowstone Lake State Park offers electric hookups on 38 of its 128 sites, vault toilets and drinking water year-round, and flush toilets, showers, and a dump station available seasonally. Sites 42 and 49 have electricity and are accessible to visitors with disabilities. Only certified firewood or wood originating within 10 miles of a state park is allowed, to slow the spread of invasive pests. Firewood is often sold at or near state park properties.
