Campgrounds near Bloomer, Wisconsin
Bloomer sits in Chippewa County in northwestern Wisconsin, about fifteen miles north of Chippewa Falls and roughly a half-hour drive from Eau Claire. The surrounding area is part of the broader Chippewa Valley, with a mix of private RV parks, county parks, and Wisconsin State Park System campgrounds within easy driving distance.
RV travelers have several nearby options. Country Villa Motel Campground and O'Neil Creek Campground sit close to town and cater to RVs with hookups. Eagle Ridge Campground and Eagle View RV Camp offer additional sites in the surrounding countryside, while Green Acres Family Campground rounds out the family-oriented private options.
For state-run camping, Lake Wissota State Park is the closest major public campground, with Brunet Island State Park a short drive north near Cornell. Both fall under the Wisconsin State Park System and require advance online reservations rather than walk-in booking, since Wisconsin has no first-come, first-served standard sites at its state parks.
Things to do near Bloomer
The Chippewa River and its chain of lakes drive most local recreation. Kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming are staples at Lake Wissota and along the river corridor near Cornell, where paddlers can move between islands on calm water.
Cyclists have the paved Old Abe State Trail, a 19.5-mile rail trail that connects Lake Wissota State Park near Chippewa Falls with Brunet Island State Park at Cornell, passing through Jim Falls along the way. A Wisconsin state trail pass is required for riders 16 and older. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail also passes through the broader region, offering hiking through glacial terrain.
Families with kids will find beaches, playgrounds, and arcades at the larger private parks such as O'Neil Creek Campground, plus wildlife watching in nearby forests home to whitetail deer, wild turkeys, and songbirds.

Most private and public campgrounds in the Bloomer area operate on an April through October season, matching the frost-free window in northwestern Wisconsin. O'Neil Creek Campground, for example, runs from April into late October, and the surrounding Chippewa Valley RV parks follow a similar pattern.
Summer is peak season. June through August delivers the warmest, longest days but also the highest bookings, the most mosquitoes, and the wettest months of the year, with June typically the rainiest. Independence Day and Labor Day weekends fill first, often months in advance, and holiday reservations at state parks require a three-night minimum. Shoulder-season trips in late May or September usually offer easier site selection and cooler nights suited to campfires.
Winter camping is limited. Many parks close entirely once temperatures drop, and only select Wisconsin State Park sites remain open, sometimes plowed as staffing allows. Snow cover typically runs from December into March.
How to book a campsite near Bloomer
Wisconsin State Park System sites, including Lake Wissota and Brunet Island, are fully reservable through the state's online portal at wisconsin.goingtocamp.com or by calling 1-888-947-2757. The reservation window opens up to 11 months in advance of the arrival date, with new inventory released at 9 a.m. Central Time. There are no first-come, first-served standard campsites at Wisconsin state parks, forests, or recreation areas.
A vehicle admission pass is required on top of the campsite fee for every motor vehicle entering a state park, and nonresident campers pay an added per-night surcharge. Maximum stay is 14 nights within any 21-day period, and holiday weekends require a three-night minimum.
Private campgrounds such as Country Villa Motel Campground, O'Neil Creek Campground, Eagle Ridge Campground, Eagle View RV Camp, and Green Acres Family Campground book directly through the operator by phone or website rather than through the state portal.
What to expect at Bloomer-area campgrounds
Sites in this region tend to be wooded, level, and reasonably spaced, with pine-needle or gravel surfaces typical of northwest Wisconsin lake country. Larger private parks such as O'Neil Creek Campground offer full hookups with 20, 30, and 50-amp service, dump stations, laundry, showers, a camp store, and kid-focused amenities like a beach, playgrounds, and an arcade. State park loops generally provide electric sites plus flush toilets and showers, but no sewer hookups at the site.
Cell coverage is inconsistent, with wooded state and county sites often seeing weaker signal than open private parks. Bring bug spray in June and July, plan for cool nights even in midsummer, and buy firewood locally or from certified dealers, since Wisconsin state parks only allow firewood originating within 10 miles of the park or state-certified wood.
