Campgrounds and RV parks near Casco, WI

Fishing drives much of the local activity. Lake Michigan tributaries and harbors at Kewaunee and Algoma are known for salmon and trout runs, and campers based at parks like Big Lake Campgrounds can target these species close to camp. The Ahnapee State Trail is the region's headline outdoor feature. The 48-mile multi-use trail follows the Ahnapee and Kewaunee rivers through northeastern Wisconsin and is open to bicyclists, walkers, joggers, horseback riders, and leashed pets, with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling in winter. Ahnapee River Trails Campground sits along the Ahnapee River near the corridor with easy access for canoeing and fishing. Day trips from Casco reach Door County beaches and shops to the northeast and Green Bay attractions to the west, including Lambeau Field, Bay Beach Amusement Park, and the National Railroad Museum.

The camping season in this part of Wisconsin is short and concentrated. Most private parks near Casco open in spring and close by late October: Ahnapee River Trails Campground, for example, operates May through October. Winter camping options are extremely limited, and roads and facilities are not maintained for RV use. Summer is the peak booking window. Weekends in July and August draw heavy traffic from Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Chicago, with families targeting Door County day trips and Lake Michigan fishing charters. Sites fill early for the Fourth of July, Packers preseason weekends, and the salmon run in late summer and early fall. Spring and fall shoulder seasons are cooler and quieter. May and September are good windows for anglers, birders, and cyclists on the Ahnapee State Trail. Green Bay averages about 31.6 inches of precipitation per year, with June typically the wettest month and February the driest, so summer trips should plan for occasional heavy thunderstorms.

Expect small, family-run parks with a mix of seasonal residents and short-stay RV renters. Amenities are practical rather than resort-style: heated pools, laundry, showers, dump stations, a small camp store, and a playground are typical, and WiFi coverage can be limited or slow. Sites tend to be grassy or gravel with picnic tables and fire rings. Cedar Valley Campground, for instance, offers a mix of grassy, wooded, and sunny sites plus an open group-camping area, which is representative of the region. Cell service can be spotty on back-country roads, so download maps before leaving Green Bay. Bring bug spray for riverside sites, a fishing license if planning to cast, and a bike to ride the Ahnapee State Trail directly from camp.
