Campgrounds and RV parks near Coon Valley, WI

Trout fishing is the signature activity. The West Fork of the Kickapoo is ranked among the top 100 trout streams in the US, with fully improved class 1 water and healthy native brown trout. Sidie Hollow's 521 acres include a 38-acre lake, two cold-water trout streams, fishing piers, and a boat launch. Families can also cast for stocked rainbows at the spring trout pond in Esofea/Rentz Memorial Park Campground. Hiking and mountain biking are strong in the area. Sidie Hollow has nearly 10 miles of multi-use hiking and mountain bike trails plus two playground areas, and Esofea/Rentz adds open areas for softball, kickball, or volleyball alongside its picnic shelter. Beyond the campgrounds, Wildcat Mountain State Park, the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and the Mississippi River bluffs at La Crosse are all inside a reasonable day-trip radius. Viroqua's farmers market and Amish bakeries round out rainy-day options.

The core camping season runs from late spring through mid-October. Late spring through fall brings the greenest scenery and cool evenings, and this is when county-park hookup sites and private resorts operate at full capacity. Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort typically runs from mid-April to mid-October. June through August is the peak booking window, and it is also the wettest stretch, with June averaging close to 4.8 inches at La Crosse. Spring brings trout-fishing pressure. Wisconsin's inland trout season opens in early May on most classified streams, with an earlier catch-and-release season running through mid-spring, and both West Fork Sportsmans Club and Sidie Hollow sit on classified trout water. Fall is quieter, with cool nights, fewer bugs, and hardwood color across the ridges through mid-October. Winter is cold and snowy. The average winter temperature in La Crosse County is about 21°F, with January the coldest month near 17°F, and the county receives roughly 48 inches of snowfall per year. Most private resorts and county-park hookup sites close for the season.

Roads into these campgrounds are rural and often narrow. Sidie Hollow is reached by winding country roads, and drivers of larger rigs should plan approach routes carefully. West Fork Sportsmans Club has size limits that vary by area of the campground: middle RV sites cap at 28 feet, while the south end can accommodate longer rigs up to 34 feet, with pull-through recommended over backing in. Hookups vary. Sidie Hollow and Esofea/Rentz mix rustic, electric, and full-hookup sites. Neshonoc Lakeside is the most amenity-heavy option, with a lake beach, pool, and cabin rentals alongside RV sites. West Fork provides basic but modern facilities: flush toilets, coin showers, and wifi. Cell coverage is spotty in the hollows and light pollution is low, so clear nights offer strong stargazing across the Driftless ridges.
