Campgrounds near Eleva, Wisconsin
Eleva sits in Trempealeau County in western Wisconsin, about a 25-minute drive south of Eau Claire along State Highway 93. The surrounding Chippewa Valley terrain of rolling farmland, coulees, and small lakes makes it a practical base for RV travelers exploring the western half of the state without the crowds of the Wisconsin Dells corridor.
Camping options within a short drive lean toward small municipal parks and privately run RV resorts rather than large state park campgrounds. Crystal Lake Campground in Strum offers 42 sites, all with water, electrical, and cable TV hookups, some with sewer hookups, plus an on-site dump station, two bathroom and shower buildings, and three pavilions. Stoney Creek RV Resort near Osseo sits just off Interstate 94, which is useful for travelers routing between the Twin Cities and Milwaukee. Pietrek Park, a Trempealeau County park near Arcadia, and Eagle Ridge Campground round out the closer options.
Most private and county sites in the immediate area are seasonal, with typical operating windows running from mid-spring through early October.
Things to do around Eleva
Crystal Lake Campground sits next to the Wisconsin DNR Buffalo River State Trail, which is popular with ATVs and snowmobiles, and is across the street from Strum's Viking Golf and Dine nine-hole course. The trail follows an old rail corridor for roughly 36 miles between Fairchild and Mondovi and is flat enough for family biking. The campground itself has a boat landing on Crystal Lake for fishing and paddling.
Eau Claire, a short drive north, adds tubing on the Chippewa River, the Chippewa River State Trail, and a walkable downtown with breweries and restaurants. The Mississippi River bluffs west of Eleva around Alma and Perrot State Park offer scenic overlooks, eagle viewing in cooler months, and boat access to backwater sloughs.
Fall color typically peaks in the coulee country from late September through mid-October.

The camping season in this part of Wisconsin is compressed. Crystal Lake Campground and most other private and county parks in the area operate on a window that runs roughly from Memorial Day weekend through early October, with some sites opening in mid-May when conditions allow. Reservations for summer weekends, especially those tied to holidays, fill weeks or months ahead at the more popular RV resorts along I-94.
June through August delivers warm days, active lakes, and the fullest slate of local events, but also the highest humidity, mosquitoes, and thunderstorm frequency. Late spring can bring cool nights and muddy trails after snowmelt. September is often the sweet spot for RV travelers: daytime temperatures remain mild, biting insects taper off, and fall color starts to move through the bluffs.
Winter camping is limited. Most private and county campgrounds close, water systems are shut off, and access roads may not be plowed. Travelers seeking cold-weather sites will need to look at select Wisconsin State Park System properties, which keep a portion of loops open with reduced services.

Renting from Anthony was great!! He was very prompt, explained everything with the camper very thoroughly and was incredibly nice and accommodating. The camper was very clean, well-kept and in great condition! The generator is basically brand new and very easy to use; starts with the push of a button! Bathroom was clean and worked! Whenever we had a question, we received timely responses from Anthony and he was very open to help, it was never a bother. If we ever have a need for a camper again, we will ABSOLUTELY reach out to Anthony again, I highly recommend using this camper!! 5 stars for sure!!

Anthony was very helpful. He met me at the campground, set up the camper, walked me through everything, and showed me the ins and outs of his camper. I told him I wanted to leave early on the day of departure. He said no problem; just leave the key in it, and he’d pick it up later the day I left. He made the entire experience so much easier for us. Thanks a lot, buddy.

How to book campgrounds near Eleva
For private and municipal parks in the Eleva area, including Crystal Lake Campground, Stoney Creek RV Resort, Pietrek Park, and Eagle Ridge Campground, reservations are made directly with each operator by phone or through their websites. Crystal Lake accepts single-night through full-season bookings. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day should be booked well in advance, particularly for full-hookup pull-through sites that accommodate larger rigs.
For nearby Wisconsin State Park System properties such as Perrot, Merrick, and Brunet Island, bookings go through the state's Going to Camp reservation system. Camping reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance of the planned occupancy date, either online or by calling 1-888-947-2757. A vehicle admission pass is required for any motor vehicle brought into the property, and nonresident campers pay an additional per-night surcharge on top of the standard campsite rate.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Eleva tend to be a mix of open, grassy pads and partially shaded loops rather than the deep woods setting found farther north. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the major carriers along the Highway 93 and I-94 corridors, though it thins out in the deeper river valleys west of town.
Crystal Lake Campground is well-equipped for RV camping, with sites offering water, electrical (up to 50-amp service), cable TV, and sewer hookups at some sites, and it accepts big rigs. Stoney Creek RV Resort is a larger, resort-style property with a pool and amenity buildings, while Pietrek Park and Eagle Ridge lean more rustic with a mix of electric and non-electric sites.
Groceries, propane, dump stations, and RV service are available in Osseo, Eau Claire, and Black River Falls. Bugs, particularly mosquitoes and ticks, are a real factor from late May through August, so screen rooms and repellent are worth packing.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Eleva,%20WisconsinDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Eleva, Wisconsin?
Great news: your everyday driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Eleva, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, so the rig you book on RVezy is ready to drive with a standard Class D license. You'll need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and we'll verify your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? You're covered from the moment you hit the road. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real peace of mind without buying outside insurance. You'll choose your coverage level at checkout based on how much extra protection you want. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat's the cancellation policy if my Eleva trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk, plan with confidence. RVezy sets the cancellation policy on every reservation (not the host), and it includes a full money-back grace period after booking so you can lock in that perfect rig without second-guessing. Refund amounts after the grace period depend on how far out your trip is from the cancellation date. You'll see the exact terms before you confirm payment. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Eleva RV trip dates, summer weekends near the Mississippi River bluffs sell out fast, and the flexible refund window gives you room to adjust if life happens.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Eleva?
Absolutely, your dog is welcome on plenty of trips. To find a pet-friendly RV rental Eleva hosts offer, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see rigs that allow furry co-pilots (sometimes for a small pet fee the host sets). Once you're here, your dog has miles of room to roam: Lake Wissota State Park (about 35 minutes north) allows leashed pets on most trails and in designated pet areas of the campground, and the Chippewa River State Trail running through nearby Eau Claire is a favorite for walks. Bring a leash, poop bags, and a water bowl, and message the host before booking if you have a larger breed. Pro tip: pack a towel for muddy paws after Wisconsin rain showers.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/petsinparksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Eleva?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery Eleva renters love, meaning the host drives the rig to your campground, sets up the hookups, levels it, and gives you a full walkthrough before leaving. This is perfect if you're new to RVing, flying into Eau Claire Regional Airport (EAU), or planning to stay put at one spot like Lake Wissota State Park or Coon Fork Lake Campground. Just turn on the Delivery filter and you'll see hosts with their delivery radius and fees listed. Pro tip: delivery often pays for itself in saved fuel and stress, especially if you're heading to a tight, wooded site you'd rather not back into yourself.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038061574-Delivery-optionsHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Eleva?
You've got options, including unlimited mileage on plenty of rigs. Each host on RVezy sets their own mileage policy: some include 100 to 150 free miles per night, others offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage (great for road trippers). Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each. From Eleva, the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) are about 95 miles west, La Crosse and the Mississippi River bluffs are roughly 60 miles south, Wisconsin Dells is around 150 miles southeast, and Door County is about 320 miles northeast. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-stop Wisconsin RV trip, filter for unlimited-mileage listings first, then sort by price. It usually saves real money over paying per-mile fees.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Eleva,%20WisconsinWhat are the best campgrounds near Eleva, WI?
You've got some great options within an easy drive. Top picks for RV camping Eleva travelers recommend include: Lake Wissota State Park (about 35 miles north near Chippewa Falls) with family campsites, electric hookups, and lake swimming; Coon Fork Lake Campground in Augusta (about 25 miles east) with quiet lakeside sites and a sandy beach; Brunet Island State Park (about 55 miles north) on the Chippewa River with shaded, water-access sites; Merrick State Park (about 60 miles southwest) along the Mississippi River with backwater fishing right at your site; and Stoney Creek RV Resort in Osseo (about 20 miles south) with full hookups, a pool, and big-rig friendly pull-throughs. Pro tip: state park sites book fast for summer weekends, see the next answer for the reservation system.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/lakewissotaWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Eleva?
Late May through early October is prime time, with a sweet spot in June and September. Summer highs in Eleva average around 78 to 82 F with mild 55 to 60 F nights, perfect for campfires and lake swims at Lake Wissota. July and August are peak season (book early), while September delivers warm days, fewer mosquitoes, and the first golden leaves along the Chippewa River. Early October brings spectacular fall color through the Driftless Area, often peaking around the second week. Winters here are genuinely cold (January highs hover around 22 F with regular snow), so most hosts close their season by late October. Pro tip: a shoulder-season Eleva RV trip in early June or mid-September is the smart-money move, lower nightly rates and better campsite availability.
weather.gov/arx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I know what I'm doing?
Yes, and you're going to love it. First time renting an RV in Eleva, Wisconsin? Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through how to operate the slide-outs, water system, propane, generator, leveling, and the dump/fill process. Most walkthroughs take 30 to 60 minutes and hosts encourage questions (and often share video guides too). You can also message your host any time before the trip through the RVezy app. The driving itself is easier than people expect: Eleva's rural setting on Highway 93 means low-traffic country roads to practice on before heading anywhere bigger. Pro tip: do a quick loop around the host's neighborhood after the walkthrough to get comfortable with the mirrors and turning radius. You'll feel like a pro by your second turn.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180353-RentersWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so whether you're at a quiet site in Coon Fork Lake Campground or driving I-94 toward Eau Claire, help is one phone call away for flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tow needs. For RV-specific issues (a finicky water pump, a tripped breaker), your host is your first call. They know their rig best and can usually walk you through a fix in minutes. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after every trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: save the roadside number, your host's number, and the RVezy support contact in your phone before pulling out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Eleva RV rental to Minnesota or across state lines?
Yes, interstate trips are totally normal and easy to arrange. Most RVezy hosts in Wisconsin allow travel throughout the Midwest, so an RV road trip from Eleva to Minneapolis (95 miles west), Door County (about 320 miles northeast), or Chicago (about 360 miles southeast) is well within reach. Just confirm with your host in the listing message before booking. Heading to Canada? That's allowed on many listings with advance host approval and is a stunning route via Duluth and the North Shore. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Pro tip: the drive from Eleva to the Mississippi River Great River Road (Highway 35) is a classic scenic route and one of the most underrated RV trips in the upper Midwest.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's fuel going to cost for my Eleva RV trip?
Easier to budget than you'd think. Gas prices in west-central Wisconsin typically track near or slightly below the Midwest average. Fuel economy depends on the rig: campervans (Class B) get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, Class A's 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer usually 10 to 14 MPG. A typical 300-mile loop from Eleva to the Twin Cities and back in a Class C runs roughly $90 to $140 in fuel at current prices. Plan-ahead pro tip: fill up at Kwik Trip locations in Eau Claire or Osseo before heading into more remote stretches near the Black River State Forest. Their prices are consistently among the lowest in the region.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Eleva?
Book sooner rather than later for the best sites. Wisconsin State Parks (including Lake Wissota, Brunet Island, and Merrick) use the Wisconsin DNR reservation system at wisconsin.goingtocamp.com or 1-888-947-2757, with an 11-month rolling booking window. Popular summer weekends and holidays (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) often fill the day they open, so set a calendar reminder. Private parks like Stoney Creek RV Resort take reservations directly and 2 to 3 months ahead is usually plenty for weekdays. Don't forget you'll also need a Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker (rates vary by residency, check the DNR site for current pricing). Pro tip: use the reservation system's notification feature for cancellation alerts, sites open up constantly, especially within two weeks of arrival.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat are the driving conditions like around Eleva?
Refreshingly easy, especially compared to big-city RV driving. Eleva sits along Highway 93 in the rolling Driftless Area, with low-traffic two-lane roads connecting to US-53 and I-94 for longer trips. The main thing to watch: rolling hills and occasional sharp curves on county roads, take them slow in a tall rig. White-tailed deer are common at dawn and dusk, so plan most driving for mid-day. Winter brings snow and ice from late November through March, which is why most RV trips happen May through October. Pro tip: avoid driving an RV through downtown Eau Claire during weekday rush hour (4 to 6 p.m.). Use the US-53 bypass instead, it adds maybe 5 minutes and a lot less stress.
511wi.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Eleva?
Most campgrounds in the area are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Wisconsin State Parks like Lake Wissota offer electric hookups (typically 30-amp, some 50-amp), flush toilets, hot showers, potable water fill stations, and a dump station, though not every site has water/sewer hookups directly. Private parks like Stoney Creek RV Resort in Osseo provide full hookups (water, electric, sewer) plus Wi-Fi, laundry, and a pool. For where to dump and fill water on the road, many service stations in Eau Claire offer public dump stations, and most state parks let day-users use theirs for a small fee. Pro tip: state park water systems typically shut off through the cold months, so for cold-shoulder trips, fill your fresh tank before arriving and rely on the RV's onboard heater.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/camping/rulesWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Eleva?
More than enough to feel right at home. Most motorhome rental Eleva listings on RVezy come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, additional bunk or convertible sleeping areas (rigs sleep 2 to 8 typically), a kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelted seats for safe travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, outdoor camp chairs, and a generator for off-grid power. Wi-Fi hotspots are sometimes offered as an add-on. Pro tip: each RVezy listing has a full amenities checklist, filter by sleeps count and bathroom type to match your group. For a family RV trip Eleva-bound, Class C motorhomes with over-cab bunks are the kid-favorite pick.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Eleva,%20WisconsinWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Lots of ways to customize your rental. Common add-ons hosts offer include kitchen and linen kits ($25 to $75), generator use ($3 to $5 per hour), bike racks, fire pits, outdoor grills, camp chairs, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Many also offer delivery and setup (rates vary by distance from Eleva, often $2 to $4 per mile round trip). Pickup is usually at the host's home, with a walkthrough included, and drop-off is at the same location at the agreed time. One-way rentals between cities are sometimes possible, message the host directly from the listing to ask. Pro tip: bundle the linen kit and kitchen kit for your first trip, it saves a packing headache and means you can roll into your campervan rental Eleva adventure with just clothes and food.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038061574-Delivery-optionsHow does the security deposit and payment work on RVezy?
Simple and secure, no cash exchanged with the host. You pay for your rent an RV in Eleva booking directly through RVezy with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged. As long as you return the RV in the same condition (clean, fueled, tanks emptied per host instructions), the hold is released after the trip ends. To avoid surprise fees, take time-stamped photos and a quick video at both pickup and drop-off, follow the host's cleaning checklist, and refill fuel and propane to the starting level. Pro tip: book with a credit card (not debit) so the deposit hold doesn't tie up cash in your checking account.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Eleva for a winter trip?
Yes, winter RVing here is a real adventure if you come prepared. Some RVezy hosts in the Eleva area keep their rigs available year-round, especially four-season models with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and upgraded insulation, ideal for ice fishing on Lake Wissota or snowmobiling nearby trails. Daytime January highs average around 22 F and nights drop into the single digits, so plan for shore power hookups (campgrounds with winter electric are limited, call ahead) and keep the furnace running on propane. Most state park water systems shut off through the cold months, so fill your fresh tank before arrival. Pro tip: filter listings for winter-ready or four-season rigs, and ask the host about skirting and heated hoses for sub-freezing stays.
