Campgrounds near Livingston, Wisconsin
Livingston sits in the Driftless Area of southwest Wisconsin, a region of unglaciated hills, sandstone bluffs, and spring-fed streams. RV travelers basing here get quick access to Governor Dodge State Park, one of the state's largest parks, with over 5,000 acres of steep hills, bluffs, and deep valleys plus two lakes and a waterfall. The park lies roughly 20 miles east of Livingston and anchors most trip planning in the area.
Campground options range from full-service private parks to state-run sites. Lake Joy Campground and Fireside Campground offer private-park amenities close to town, while Twin Valley at Governor Dodge State Park provides forested state-park sites with electric hookups on many loops. Eagle Cave Resort LLC, north near the Wisconsin River, is known for its natural cavern and family programming. Rustic Barn Campground & RV Park rounds out the nearby private options for RVers wanting longer pull-throughs.
The surrounding towns of Dodgeville, Mineral Point, and Spring Green add supply stops, dump stations, and dining within a short drive.
Things to do near Livingston
Governor Dodge State Park is the primary draw. Common activities include boating with electric motors only, fishing, picnicking, and swimming on the park's two lakes, Cox Hollow Lake and Twin Valley Lake. Each lake has a boat launch, dam, and swimming area. The land is mostly oak and hickory forest with sandstone bluff outcroppings and one named waterfall, Stephens' Falls. The park also connects to the 40-mile Military Ridge State Trail for cycling.
Beyond the park, Eagle Cave Resort LLC offers guided cave tours suitable for kids. Spring Green, about 30 minutes north, is home to Taliesin and American Players Theatre. Mineral Point preserves lead-mining-era stone cottages and a walkable historic district. The Wisconsin River corridor supports paddling, tubing, and sandbar camping trips.

Shoulder seasons are quieter and cooler. Spring brings wildflowers and running water at Stephens' Falls, though nights stay cold into April. Fall delivers strong hardwood color across the Driftless hills, typically peaking in the first two weeks of October.
Winter camping is limited but possible in the state park. More than 30 campsites in the Twin Valley campground are available for winter campers, and a few of these sites are plowed. Electricity, pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings are provided, and winter water is available at the park office. Most private campgrounds near Livingston close between late October and April.
How to book
State-park sites use the Wisconsin DNR reservation system, operated through the Going to Camp portal. Camping reservations are required for all sites and can be made for the same day of arrival or up to 11 months before the planned date of occupancy. Reservations can be made online or by calling 1-888-947-2757.
A vehicle admission pass is required for every vehicle, and all campers must register before setting up on a site. Popular summer weekends at Twin Valley often sell out the day the 11-month window opens, so set a calendar reminder.
Private campgrounds such as Lake Joy Campground, Fireside Campground, Eagle Cave Resort LLC, and Rustic Barn Campground & RV Park book directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends generally require multi-night minimums.
What to expect
Terrain in the Driftless Area is hilly, and county roads leading to campgrounds include short grades and tight turns. Drivers of longer motorhomes should plan routes in advance and avoid narrow gravel spurs. At Twin Valley, sites vary in size and shade: some loops accommodate larger RVs, while other sections have tighter, more wooded sites better suited to tents and smaller rigs.
Hookups vary. Governor Dodge has 269 standard campsites across Twin Valley and Cox Hollow, with electrical hookups available at 80 sites and no individual water hookups. Private parks in the area typically offer water and 30/50-amp electric, with some full-hookup pull-throughs.
Showers are available in the Twin Valley and Cox Hollow restroom buildings, and both campgrounds have trailer dumping stations. Cell coverage in the hills can be spotty.
