Campgrounds and RV parks near Westby, WI

Westby sits in the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin, a region of steep ridges, spring-fed trout streams, and narrow valleys that escaped the last continental glaciation. The surrounding landscape shapes most of the camping in Vernon and Monroe counties, with sites ranging from small conservation-club properties to county parks and a large state-managed reserve. The closest options include West Fork Sportsmans Club along the West Fork of the Kickapoo River, Esofea/Rentz Memorial Park Campground, and Sidie Hollow County Park Campground outside nearby Viroqua. To the east, the Kickapoo Valley Reserve covers roughly 8,569 acres between the villages of La Farge and Ontario, with OO Steinmetz Camp among its designated sites. Leon Valley Campground lies to the north near Sparta, closer to the Elroy-Sparta State Trail. Most sites cluster along the Kickapoo River corridor and its tributaries, which makes trout fishing, paddling, and cycling the main draws for RV travelers using Westby as a base.

Reservation systems vary by operator. Vernon County parks, including Sidie Hollow and Esofea/Rentz Memorial Park, book online through the county's parks system or by phone, with advance reservations requiring a two-night minimum. Deposits are refunded when cancellations are made at least ten days before arrival, less a processing fee. The Kickapoo Valley Reserve uses a mixed model. Campsites can be booked online or in person at the Visitor Center, and all campers must register and obtain a camping permit, available online, at the Visitor Center, or at self-registration stations located throughout the Reserve. Permits can be secured the day of arrival or up to 45 days in advance. Leon Valley Campground takes reservations by phone or email on a first-come, first-served basis and fills up quickly. West Fork Sportsmans Club operates as a membership-based conservation organization, so plan to check requirements with the club before arrival.
