Campgrounds and RV parks near Winchester, WI

Winchester is a small unincorporated community and township in northwest Winnebago County, in east-central Wisconsin, sitting northwest of Oshkosh and west of the Fox Cities. The surrounding area is flat farmland and marsh bordering the Winnebago System, a chain of interconnected lakes and rivers that includes Lake Poygan, Lake Butte des Morts, Lake Winneconne, and Lake Winnebago. Most trips here center on the water and the small resort towns of Omro, Winneconne, and Fremont. RV renters have a mix of private parks and lake-oriented resorts to choose from within a short drive. Omro RV Park sits on Highway 21 east of Omro, about six miles from Highway 41 near Oshkosh, and is a common overnight stop. Hickory Oaks Campground, Hahn-a-Lula Resort, Hucklberry Acres Campgrounds/Bar Restaurant, and Gala Resort and Campgrounds round out the closest options, most of them oriented toward fishing, family stays, and seasonal sites. Winchester also sits at the western trailhead of the Friendship State Trail, a partial rail-trail that runs east toward the Fox Cities, giving campers a cycling and walking option close to town.

Private parks handle their own reservations directly. Practices vary widely. Omro RV Park operates as a self-registration, first-come first-served stop with cash or check payment only, and does not accept advance reservations outside of major event weekends. Resort-style parks such as Hahn-a-Lula Resort and Gala Resort and Campgrounds take direct bookings by phone or through their websites, and often hold many sites as seasonal. Winnebago County Parks does not run traditional public campgrounds outside of special events. If a trip lines up with EAA AirVenture, the county fair, or a horse show, campsite reservations go through the event organizer rather than the county. For any peak-summer stay, and for anything within a two-hour drive of Oshkosh during EAA week, book as early in the year as possible.
