Our five days with Colleen's trailer were great. We weren't in the trailer that often since the weather was amazing. We had everything that we needed. Colleen's drop off and pick up were very efficient. Showed me everything that I needed to know in terms of the furnace and propane etc. Communication was great -- let me know when she would arrive for drop off and pick up. Thank you for a great weekend!

Brian was great to work with. He was flexible with times to fit with our travel schedule. His tour of the unit was comprehensive, so it made the trip smooth. We had to contact him with a question and he was extremely responsive. The RV itself was very comfortable to drive and fit our needs nicely for the weekend. It was great

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Lakefield, ON
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lakefield, ON?
Renting an RV in Lakefield is an affordable alternative to booking cottages on Stoney Lake or Buckhorn for a long weekend. On RVezy, towable trailers near Lakefield typically average around $150 CAD per night, while motorhomes generally run about $250 to $300 CAD per night, and many hosts offer weekly or monthly discounts. For a cheap RV rental in Lakefield, book Sunday through Thursday or aim for the shoulder seasons of late May and September when the Kawarthas are gorgeous and prices ease. Pro tip: use the price slider and Instant Book filter on RVezy to lock in the best deal before peak Trent-Severn Waterway boating season fills up.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakefield%2C%20OntarioWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lakefield, Ontario?
For almost every RV rental in Lakefield, your regular full Class G driver's licence is all you need. Ontario allows Class G holders to drive any motorhome up to 11,000 kg, which covers virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer listed on RVezy. Visiting from out of province or abroad? Your home licence is valid in Ontario for short visits, and an International Driving Permit is a smart add-on if your licence isn't in English or French. To book on RVezy you must be an approved driver (generally 25 or older), and ID verification is completed right inside the platform before pickup.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs insurance included with my Lakefield RV rental?
Yes, and this is one of the best reasons to book a motorhome rental in Lakefield through RVezy. Every booking includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered from the moment you pull out of the host's driveway until you return. The protection plan helps cover most damage to the vehicle, giving you real peace of mind whether you're navigating County Road 29 to Burleigh Falls or backing into a site at Lakefield Park and Campground. You choose your level of coverage during checkout, not the host, so you stay in control of the protection that fits your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Lakefield RV trip?
Plans change, and RVezy keeps it low-stress. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy that applies to every booking, and there is a money-back grace period right after booking so you can confirm dates with confidence. Refund amounts after the grace period depend on factors like how many days remain before pickup. You'll see the full cancellation details on your booking confirmation, and RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip if anything comes up. Pro tip: message the host first if you just need to shift dates by a day or two, since many are happy to be flexible.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Lakefield?
Yes, and the Kawarthas are practically built for dogs. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Lakefield, toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings where dogs are welcome (some hosts list a small cleaning fee directly on the page). Once you're set, take your pup to the off-leash dog area at Beavermead Park in nearby Peterborough, the trails at Warsaw Caves Conservation Area, or for a swim along the Otonabee River. Ontario Parks allow leashed dogs on most trails and at most campsites. Pack a long lead and a towel, because every Kawartha trip ends with a wet, happy dog.
ontarioparks.ca/parks/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Lakefield?
Yes, RV delivery in Lakefield is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather not drive a motorhome themselves. Many hosts will deliver your trailer or motorhome directly to a campground like Lakefield Park and Campground or Selwyn Conservation Area, a resort on Pigeon Lake, or even a private cottage driveway on Stoney Lake. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. To find delivery-ready listings, use the Delivery filter on the RVezy search page, then message the host to confirm the drop location and any delivery fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakefield%2C%20OntarioHow far can I drive on a Lakefield RV trip without going over mileage?
You've got plenty of room to roam. Most RV rentals in Lakefield include a daily kilometre allowance (typically 200 to 400 km), and many hosts offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage as an add-on so you can wander freely. From Lakefield, you're about 25 minutes to Peterborough, 50 minutes to Petroglyphs Provincial Park, around 2 hours to Toronto, 3 hours to Algonquin Provincial Park's west gate, and roughly 3.5 hours to Ottawa. Each listing shows the included mileage and per-kilometre overage rate up front. Pro tip: if you're planning an RV road trip from Lakefield up to Algonquin or out to Prince Edward County, message the host beforehand and ask about a flat-rate mileage upgrade.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakefield%2C%20OntarioWhere are the best campgrounds near Lakefield, ON?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Lakefield include Lakefield Park and Campground (right in the village along the Otonabee with full-hookup sites), Selwyn Conservation Area for a quieter family-friendly setting, Six Foot Bay Resort on Pigeon Lake (lakeside sites and a golf course), Warsaw Caves Conservation Area (limestone caves and a great trail system), and Emily Provincial Park near Omemee for a classic Ontario Parks experience. All are within about a 45-minute drive of downtown Lakefield, making RV camping in Lakefield a perfect home base for exploring the Trent-Severn Waterway.
ontarioparks.ca/park/emilyWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Lakefield?
The sweet spot for an RV trip in Lakefield is mid-June through mid-September, when daytime highs sit around 24 to 27°C and the Trent-Severn Waterway locks are fully operational. July is the warmest month, averaging 27°C, perfect for swimming at Sandy Beach or paddling Stoney Lake. Don't sleep on the shoulder seasons though: late May brings blossoms and fewer bugs, while late September and early October light up the Kawarthas with spectacular fall colours, especially along the drive to Petroglyphs Provincial Park. Winters average -2°C in January with snow, so most private campgrounds close by mid-October. Book July weekends at least 2 months ahead.
weather.gc.ca/en/location/index.html?coords=44.425%2C-78.268I've never rented an RV before. Is Lakefield a good place to start?
Lakefield is one of the friendliest spots in Ontario for first time renting an RV. The roads here are calm two-lane country highways, campgrounds are small and welcoming, and your RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering the propane, water systems, slide-outs, and dump procedure, so you're never left guessing. If driving feels intimidating, book a host who offers delivery and they'll bring the RV to your campground, set it up, and hand you the keys. Start with two or three nights at a single campground rather than a multi-stop tour, and you'll be a confident RVer by the end of the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakefield%2C%20OntarioWhat happens if something breaks down during my Lakefield RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RV rental in Lakefield booked through RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance included with the renter protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing if needed. If a system inside the RV acts up (think furnace, fridge, or slide-out), your first call is your host, who knows their vehicle inside and out and can usually talk you through a fix in minutes. Still stuck? RVezy's support team is one tap away in the app. Save both numbers to your phone before you head toward Stoney Lake or Buckhorn, since cell service can get patchy north of Lakefield toward Apsley.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I drive my Lakefield RV rental across the border to the US?
Cross-border road trips are often possible from Lakefield, but you must clear it with your host first. Many RVezy hosts allow travel into New York or Michigan (Niagara Falls is about 3 hours away, and the Thousand Islands crossing near Gananoque is roughly 2.5 hours), but the host needs to confirm their insurance covers US travel and may add a fee. Bring your passport, proof of insurance, and the RV's registration. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: a popular RV road trip from Lakefield is the loop through Prince Edward County, across the Wolfe Island ferry, and over to the Adirondacks, gorgeous in any season.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Lakefield RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line in your budget after the rental itself, but it's manageable. Class B campervans around Lakefield average roughly 12 to 14 L/100km, Class C motorhomes run about 18 to 22 L/100km, and large Class A coaches can hit 25 L/100km or more. Gas prices in Peterborough County typically track close to the Ontario provincial average, and you'll find reliable fuel stops on Highway 28 just south of Lakefield before you head into cottage country (fuel gets scarcer past Apsley). A 4-night loop from Lakefield to Bobcaygeon, Buckhorn, and back usually runs about $100 to $220 in fuel depending on the rig. Fill up before leaving town.
ontario.ca/page/gasoline-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground near Lakefield?
For peak summer (Canada Day weekend through Labour Day), book Ontario Parks sites the moment the 5-month reservation window opens at reservations.ontarioparks.ca, since sites at Emily Provincial Park, Balsam Lake, and Petroglyphs go quickly. Private campgrounds like Lakefield Park and Campground and Six Foot Bay Resort accept reservations directly through their websites and often fill 6 to 8 weeks ahead for July and August weekends. Shoulder season (June, September) is far more relaxed, and you can often book 1 to 2 weeks out. Pro tip: midweek arrivals on Sunday or Monday almost always have openings, even in peak summer. Lock in your RVezy booking first, then your campsite.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are the driving conditions like around Lakefield?
Driving an RV around Lakefield is genuinely easy. The main routes (Highway 28 north to Apsley, County Road 29 to Peterborough, and County Road 18 toward Buckhorn) are paved, well-maintained two-lane highways with gentle drumlin hills and great sightlines. Watch for the swing bridge in downtown Lakefield over the Otonabee River, which opens for Trent-Severn Waterway boat traffic and can cause short delays. Deer are common at dawn and dusk, especially north of town. In winter, snow squalls off the lakes can reduce visibility quickly, which is one more reason most rentals here run May to October. Avoid threading large Class A motorhomes through Lakefield's narrow Queen Street on busy summer Saturdays.
511on.ca/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Lakefield?
Campgrounds around Lakefield are well-equipped for any RV. Private parks like Lakefield Park and Campground typically offer full-hookup sites (30-amp electrical, water, and sewer), dump stations, potable water fills, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi near the main building. Ontario Parks campgrounds such as Emily and Petroglyphs typically offer electrical sites plus comfort stations with showers and a central dump station. Need to dump or fill water mid-trip? The municipal dump station at Beavermead Campground in Peterborough is open seasonally for a small fee. Pro tip: book a full-hookup site if it's your first trip, you'll appreciate not having to monitor tank levels.
ontarioparks.ca/park/emily/campingWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in Lakefield?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental in Lakefield comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (so a Class C usually sleeps 4 to 6), a kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet bath with toilet and shower. You'll also find roof-top air conditioning, a furnace for chilly Kawartha mornings, an awning for shade at your Stoney Lake site, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Many hosts include a generator, an outdoor BBQ, camp chairs, and even paddleboards as add-ons. Each RVezy listing spells out exactly what's included, so check the amenities tab before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakefield%2C%20OntarioWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for RV rentals in Lakefield?
Hosts in Lakefield offer a great range of extras to customize your trip. Common add-ons include kitchen kits, bedding packages, generators, propane refills, bike racks, and even kayaks or fishing gear (perfect for Pigeon Lake bass). Many hosts offer delivery within a 30 to 50 km radius of Lakefield for a flat fee, which can be cheaper than paying mileage on a long tow yourself. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Lakefield, Selwyn, or Peterborough, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Each listing shows mileage policies, add-on prices, and pickup/dropoff windows on the page, so you can build the exact trip you want before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lakefield%2C%20OntarioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Lakefield through RVezy, you pay with a credit card directly on the platform, never in cash to the host. A pre-authorized security deposit hold is placed on your card before pickup (the exact amount is shown on the listing) and released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition. To avoid any deposit issues, take photos at pickup and dropoff, return with a clean interior and empty tanks (or pay the dump fee), and refill the fuel to the level shown at pickup. Easy, transparent, and stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great first road trip itinerary from Lakefield?
Here's a local-favourite 4-night loop that shows off the best of the region. Night 1: Lakefield Park and Campground, then walk into the village for dinner and a stop at the local bakery. Night 2: drive about 45 minutes northeast to Petroglyphs Provincial Park to see the sacred carvings, then camp at nearby Warsaw Caves Conservation Area. Night 3: head west to Buckhorn or Pigeon Lake for swimming and a sunset paddle. Night 4: loop south through Bobcaygeon and Emily Provincial Park before returning to Lakefield. Total drive: under 250 km, plenty of room within most mileage allowances, and a perfect family RV trip in Lakefield.
