2025 Thor Motor Coach Class B
We had a fantastic 7 day roadtrip traveling through California visiting various California Missions with our 2 children and dog! We stayed at several camp sites and easily hooked up to facilities. Gurvinder’s Thor Motor Coach was PERFECT! It was comfortable for our family of 4 (plus dog). Two slept comfortable in each of the sleeping areas. We loved the ability to easily unhook from campsite and head into to town to explore Missions. Moving was easy and any parking lot accommodated the vehicle. For a family 4, I recommend setting aside plenty of time to carefully pack the vehicle with the necessities only! We brought an extra table and small grill as well as 4 chairs and bedding. The vehicle’s hot plate came in handy, the pot and pan provided along with plates, cups and utensils were appreciated. The bathroom was easy to use. Gurvinder prepped us well on how to use the vehicle and quickly responded to questions! We would definitely consider this vehicle for future trips!

Rented the RV for a family camping trip to a local state beach. RV looked fantastic, great condition, and comfortably slept a family of 4 without any issues. When I picked up the RV initially, Mark walked me through everything. And when I was at the campsite trying to figure something out, I text him and he responded right away to walk me through it. Great experience and highly recommend!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Del Mar, CA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Del Mar, CA?

RV rental in Del Mar is more affordable than you'd expect for a beachfront SoCal town. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $295, and luxury Class A coaches can reach $400 plus. Pricing climbs around big events like the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club summer race meet (July through September) and the San Diego County Fair in June, so booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead locks in better rates. For a cheap RV rental Del Mar option, look at midweek pickups in late winter or grab a smaller campervan. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to compare real all-in pricing in seconds.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Del Mar, California?

Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Del Mar. California does not require a special RV license or commercial driver's license (CDL) for any motorhome under 40 feet, which covers virtually every rental on the platform. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking, so there's no trip to a rental counter. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country auto association before flying in, usually under $25. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the whole verification step really is.

Is the RV protected if something goes wrong on my Del Mar trip?

Yes, every RV rental in Del Mar comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into your booking. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the vehicle, giving you real peace of mind when you're navigating I-5 traffic or backing into a beachfront site at South Carlsbad. You choose your coverage level at checkout (not the host), so you can match the plan to how adventurous your route is. If a tire blows on the way to Anza-Borrego or the fridge quits in Julian, one phone call gets help rolling. That's a lot of worry off your packing list before your Del Mar RV trip.

What if I need to cancel my Del Mar RV rental?

Booking is low risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy across the platform (not individual hosts), and there's a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refunds after that depend on how far out your trip start date is. You can review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook. Pro tip: book your RV first, then your campsite, since California State Parks reservations open six months ahead and tend to be the harder piece to lock down.

Can I bring my dog on a Del Mar RV rental?

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Del Mar options are easy to find: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see dozens of dog-welcoming rigs. Del Mar is famously dog-loving, with off-leash hours at Del Mar Dog Beach (Rivermouth) from September through May, and leashed dogs welcome year-round on the main beach and at Seagrove Park. Most local campgrounds, including South Carlsbad State Beach and San Elijo State Beach, allow pets in the campground (though not on the sand at state beaches). Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and bring a long lead, the bluff trails at Torrey Pines State Reserve don't allow dogs, but the beach below does.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite or rental in Del Mar?

Yes, RV delivery in Del Mar is one of the smartest moves for first-timers. Many local hosts will drive the RV straight to South Carlsbad State Beach, San Elijo State Beach, the Del Mar Fairgrounds RV park, or even a vacation rental driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. That means zero stress about driving a 30-foot motorhome through Del Mar's narrow coastal streets. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and ask the host for a delivery quote, fees usually scale with mileage.

How far can I drive on an RV road trip from Del Mar?

Plenty far, Del Mar is a launchpad for some of California's best RV routes. Joshua Tree National Park is about 170 miles northeast (3.5 hours), Anza-Borrego Desert State Park sits 90 miles east (2 hours) and explodes with wildflowers in spring, Big Bear Lake is around 140 miles north, and Sequoia National Park makes a spectacular 350-mile haul. Each host sets their own mileage policy: some offer unlimited miles, others include 100 to 150 free miles per night with a small per-mile charge after that. The mileage policy is shown clearly on every listing. For an RV road trip from Del Mar up the coast, Highway 101 to San Clemente and Dana Point is a stunning 30-mile cruise.

Where are the best campgrounds near Del Mar for RVs?

You're spoiled for choice for RV camping Del Mar. South Carlsbad State Beach Campground sits on a bluff right over the Pacific about 12 miles north and has hookup sites for rigs up to 35 feet. San Elijo State Beach in Encinitas (6 miles north) offers oceanfront sites with full and partial hookups. The Del Mar Fairgrounds RV Park (Surf and Turf) is just blocks from the beach and takes reservations up to two months out. Campland on the Bay in Mission Bay is a 25-minute drive south with full hookups and a private beach. Pro tip: book state beach sites the day they open at 8 a.m. Pacific, six months ahead via ReserveCalifornia.

When is the best time to visit Del Mar in an RV?

Del Mar is genuinely a year-round destination, but September and October are the local sweet spot, with sunny upper-70s days, warm ocean water, and the marine layer (May Gray and June Gloom) long gone. Summer brings highs in the mid-70s along the coast and packed campgrounds, especially during the Del Mar racing season (mid-July through Labor Day). Winter is mild at 60 to 68°F with occasional rain, perfect for off-season deals on a campervan rental Del Mar. Spring sees the famous Anza-Borrego wildflower bloom, an easy 2-hour drive east. Pro tip: avoid Opening Day at the racetrack in mid-July if you want quieter campgrounds, traffic on I-5 backs up for miles.

I'm a first-time RV renter in Del Mar. Will I be able to handle it?

You've got this, and you won't be doing it alone. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water and propane systems, and answering every question you have. If you're nervous about driving in the San Diego area, ask for a smaller Class B campervan or travel trailer under 25 feet, both handle Del Mar's hilly streets and I-5 merges easily. Better yet, book delivery and skip driving entirely. You can also message the host through the listing before you book to talk through your route. First time renting an RV? Most guests say the walkthrough alone made them feel completely prepared.

What happens if the RV breaks down during my Del Mar trip?

You're covered around the clock. Every booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 78, a dead battery at South Carlsbad State Beach, or a tow off the I-5 shoulder is one phone call away. RVezy's support team is also available before, during, and after your trip to help coordinate solutions if something major comes up. Many local hosts live within a 30-minute drive and can swing by personally for quick fixes. Pro tip: take a short video walkthrough of the RV at pickup with your host, it speeds up any claim and gets you back on the road faster.

Can I take my Del Mar RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?

Cross-state travel is usually fair game, plenty of guests rent an RV in Del Mar and cruise into Arizona for the Grand Canyon or Nevada for Las Vegas. Each host sets their own travel-area rules, which are listed on the listing page, and you can message them to confirm your route before booking. Mexico, however, is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance and the protection plan don't extend across the border, even though Tijuana is just 30 miles south. Stick to the US side and you'll have no shortage of options. Pro tip: Anza-Borrego, Joshua Tree, and the Salton Sea all make great 2 to 4 night loops from Del Mar.

What kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for in Del Mar?

Plan smart and you'll keep your fuel budget under control. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class B campervans get 16 to 22 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. California gas prices in San Diego County typically run $4.75 to $5.50 per gallon, with the cheapest stations along El Camino Real and Mira Mesa Boulevard rather than right off I-5 at Del Mar Heights Road. For a 4-night Del Mar RV trip with day excursions to Torrey Pines, La Jolla, and Carlsbad, budget around $150 to $250 in fuel for a midsize motorhome. Pro tip: fill up in Escondido or Oceanside, prices drop noticeably outside the coastal zone.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/

How far in advance should I book a campground near Del Mar?

Book early, San Diego County coastal campgrounds are some of the most competitive in California. ReserveCalifornia opens reservations exactly six months ahead at 8 a.m. Pacific, and oceanfront sites at South Carlsbad and San Elijo State Beach are typically gone within minutes for summer weekends. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, set a calendar reminder. Private parks like Campland on the Bay and the Del Mar Fairgrounds RV Park (which takes bookings two months out) offer more flexibility. Pro tip: if you strike out on a Saturday night, grab Sunday through Thursday instead, midweek camping near Del Mar is gorgeous, cheaper, and far less crowded.
reservecalifornia.com/

What are driving conditions like around Del Mar?

Coastal driving here is friendly once you know the rhythm. I-5 is the main artery and gets congested between 7 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., especially near the merge with I-805 in Sorrento Valley. Camino Del Mar (the old Highway 101) is scenic but narrow, and the city limits oversize vehicles (over 20 feet long, 84 inches wide, or 78 inches tall) to a 4-hour parking maximum, so plan to camp outside town. Torrey Pines Grade is a steep but short climb you'll want to take in low gear. Weather is rarely an issue: no snow, occasional dense morning fog at the coast. Pro tip: avoid the I-5 north on summer Sundays after 4 p.m., everyone's headed home from the beach.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Del Mar?

Most campgrounds near Del Mar are well equipped for a relaxed stay. South Carlsbad and San Elijo State Beach offer water and electric hookups, hot showers, flush toilets, and on-site dump stations (the San Elijo dump is open to the public for around $15). Campland on the Bay and the Del Mar Fairgrounds RV Park have full hookups (water, electric, and sewer at the site) plus laundry, Wi-Fi, and pools. For freshwater fills on the road, most Chevron and 76 stations along the coast have potable water spigots. Pro tip: dump tanks before checking out at state beaches to skip the line, the morning rush between 9 and 11 a.m. can mean a 30-minute wait.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=21299

What's typically included inside a Del Mar RV rental?

You'll roll out of the driveway road-trip ready. Most motorhome rental Del Mar listings come with a full kitchen (stove, fridge, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, queen or king beds, dining area, air conditioning, propane heat, and seatbelts for everyone traveling. Larger Class A and Class C rigs often include a generator, outdoor TV, awning, and outdoor speakers, perfect for sunset at South Carlsbad. Wi-Fi hotspots and solar panels are common add-ons. Every listing shows the full amenity list, sleep count, and photos so you know exactly what you're getting. Pro tip: confirm the rig has a beach gear basket or bike rack, you'll want both for easy days at Torrey Pines and the Coastal Rail Trail.
rvezy.com/

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Hosts make customizing easy. Popular add-ons in Del Mar include camping chairs and tables, bedding and linen packages, bike racks, beach gear, kayaks, surfboards, generators, and pet packages, all visible on the listing page. For pickup, you can either meet the host at their location or request delivery to a campground or your Del Mar vacation rental. Mileage policies vary: some are unlimited, others bundle 100 to 150 miles per night with a small per-mile fee after that. All of this is shown upfront, no surprises. Pro tip: bundle linens and a beach setup add-on, it's cheaper than buying gear once you arrive and saves a Target run.

How does payment and the security deposit work for a Del Mar RV rental?

Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, no cash or off-platform transfers. You'll pay your trip total with a credit or debit card at booking, and the host receives funds after your trip starts. The security deposit is a separate authorization placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after a clean return, with the amount set by the host and shown on the listing. Avoid issues by doing a thorough walkthrough video at pickup and dropoff with the host, and dump tanks before you return. Pro tip: keep the same card on file for your trip, swapping cards mid-rental can delay the deposit release by a few business days.
