2018 Forest River Class C
Karina was very responsive, the meet up to pick up and drop off went smoothly. We did have a couple issues with the RV panel that it needed to reboot for every generator use. They said they were aware and were planning on replacing. We were unable to see grey and black water usage levels. The A/C works but only on a high level and vents are a bit broken and don't stay open without putting something in place to keep them open. Overall the RV was great for our girls trip. We had 4 adult women and it was good for what we needed. There are solar panels and satellite but we were not sure how to use it and it was not explained, so we can not give any review on those features. It would've been good to have an owners manual on how the RV operates with those features a long with anything else. Took a couple days just to figure out the quirks but it did not interfere with our trip. The main door lock did break, but I was able to get it replaced at the end of the trip. Overall, I would definitely rent again given some of the little things being resolved as it is a great RV.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Virginia City, NV

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Virginia City, NV?

An RV rental in Virginia City is often cheaper than a hotel room during the city's busiest events. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes land between $175 and $295, and larger Class A coaches range from about $250 to $450. You will save the most by booking midweek, traveling in the shoulder seasons of April, May, September, and October, and choosing a trailer over a motorized RV. For a cheap RV rental in Virginia City, use the price filter and sort by lowest nightly rate. Pro tip: booking three or more nights often unlocks weekly discounts set by hosts.

What license do I need to rent an RV in Virginia City?

Great news for first-time renters: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Virginia City. Nevada does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, even the big Class A rigs you'll see rolling up Geiger Grade. You'll just need to be 25 or older, upload a clear photo of your license during RVezy's quick ID verification, and you're cleared to drive. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), usually under $20 from your local auto club. That's it, you're ready to roll into the Comstock.

Is my Virginia City RV rental protected if something goes wrong?

Yes, every RVezy booking in Virginia City automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 341 with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), picking the plan that best matches your comfort and budget. Coverage helps with most physical damage to the RV during your trip, whether a rock dings the windshield on the way to Lake Tahoe or a slide-out gets bumped at the campground. Bottom line: book your RV rental in Virginia City confidently, then focus on exploring the Comstock Lode.

Life happens, and RVezy has you covered with a standardized cancellation policy that applies to every booking, set by RVezy itself rather than by individual hosts. Can I bring my dog on a Virginia City RV trip?

Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Virginia City, so your dog can ride shotgun through the high desert. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see every listing that welcomes four-legged guests. Once you arrive, dogs are welcome on leash along the wooden boardwalks of C Street, at the dog-friendly patios on the south end of town, and on most trails in nearby Washoe Lake State Park and Dayton State Park. The V&T Railroad even allows leashed dogs on certain excursions. Pro tip: summer pavement on C Street gets hot, so plan walks for early morning or after sunset and always carry water.

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Virginia City?

Yes, RV delivery in Virginia City is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip the drive up the twisty Geiger Grade (State Route 341). Many hosts based in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City will drop the rig at Virginia City RV Park, Dayton State Park, or a private property, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Just filter by Delivery on the search page and message the host to confirm the fee and exact drop spot. It is the easiest way to enjoy RV camping in Virginia City without ever sitting in the driver's seat.

How far can I drive on a Virginia City RV trip?

You've got the whole Sierra and high desert at your doorstep when you rent an RV in Virginia City. Reno sits just 23 miles north (about 40 minutes), Carson City is 14 miles south, Lake Tahoe's east shore is about 35 miles away, Pyramid Lake is 55 miles, and Yosemite's Tioga Pass entrance is roughly 175 miles south. Where are the best campgrounds near Virginia City?

You're spoiled for choice. The top pick right in town is Virginia City RV Park on N F Street, a full-hookup park open year-round with 50 sites, a market, and a walkable five-minute stroll to C Street. Twenty minutes downhill, Dayton State Park offers riverside sites along the Carson River with dump stations and BBQs. Washoe Lake State Park (about 25 minutes west) has water-view sites and easy hiking. Sparks Marina RV Park (25 minutes north) gives you full hookups closer to Reno's restaurants, and Davis Creek Regional Park near New Washoe City offers shaded reservable sites with Sierra views. Book the in-town park early for Hot August Nights or the Camel Races.

When is the best time to take a Virginia City RV trip?

Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Virginia City, when daytime highs sit between 70°F and 85°F and nights cool to a comfortable 45°F to 55°F at the town's 6,150-foot elevation. September is the local insider favorite: warm afternoons, crisp evenings, fewer crowds, and signature events like the International Camel and Ostrich Races. July and August can hit the low 90s but stay dry. Winter is genuinely cold with lows in the teens and roughly 56 inches of annual snowfall, but if you've got a four-season rig it's magical and rates drop significantly. Spring (April to mid-May) is windy but beautiful as the sagebrush greens up.

I've never rented an RV before, is Virginia City a good place to start?

It is a fantastic spot for first time renting an RV, especially if you let a host deliver and set up the rig for you. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, the generator, slide-outs, and tank dumping, and you can text or call them throughout your trip. For first-timers nervous about Geiger Grade (a steep grade with switchbacks on State Route 341), the easier approach is from the south via State Route 342 through Silver City and Gold Hill off U.S. 50. Even better, choose a delivered travel trailer parked at Virginia City RV Park and you will never drive the RV at all.

What if I break down or have an issue during my trip?

You are never on your own. Every RVezy rental in Virginia City includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 50, a dead battery at Washoe Lake, or a propane issue at the campground is one phone call away from being handled. You will also have your host's direct contact, and many local hosts can be at your site within an hour for quick fixes. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip through the app. Save both numbers in your phone before you leave the pickup driveway and you will have backup wherever the road leads.

What are the best road trips from Virginia City?

Virginia City sits at the center of some of the West's best RV routes. Popular RV road trips from Virginia City include Lake Tahoe's east shore loop (about 90 minutes round trip to Sand Harbor), the Loneliest Road in America along U.S. Highway 50 east through Fallon and Austin (a classic 3 to 5 day Nevada crossing), Yosemite National Park via U.S. 395 (about 4 hours to Tioga Pass when open), Pyramid Lake's tufa formations (75 minutes north), and a Reno-to-Lassen Volcanic National Park run (about 2.5 hours). Cross-border trips into California are fully allowed; Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental.

What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?

Budgeting fuel for a Virginia City RV trip is easier than you'd think. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, you'll just see your tow vehicle drop to roughly 10 to 13 MPG. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches run 6 to 9 MPG. Nevada gas prices typically sit a bit below California's, with stations in Carson City and Reno usually cheaper than the single station in Virginia City itself. For a four-night Sierra loop covering 400 miles in a Class C, expect roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Carson City before climbing Geiger Grade, you'll save money and avoid running low on the climb.

How far ahead should I book a campground near Virginia City?

For most of the year, two to four weeks ahead is plenty for the best campgrounds near Virginia City. But for big weekends like Hot August Nights (early August), the International Camel and Ostrich Races (September), Street Vibrations (late September), and any holiday weekend, book three to six months out. Nevada State Parks like Washoe Lake and Dayton use ReserveNevada.com for their reservable sites, while Virginia City RV Park books directly through its own website or by phone. Federal campgrounds in the surrounding Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest use Recreation.gov. Pro tip: weekday arrivals are almost always available last-minute, even in peak season.

What are the driving conditions like getting to Virginia City?

Heads up but no need to stress: the main road into town, State Route 341 (Geiger Grade) from Reno, is a paved, well-maintained mountain highway with switchbacks climbing from about 4,500 feet in Reno to 6,150 feet in Virginia City. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers handle it comfortably in low gear at 25 to 35 mph. The gentler approach is from the south via State Route 342 through Silver City and Gold Hill off U.S. 50, which is the recommended route for larger Class A coaches and first-time RV drivers. In winter, chains or snow tires are sometimes required, and you can check current conditions on Nevada 511 before you leave.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Virginia City?

You'll find more than enough to stay comfortable. Virginia City RV Park offers 50/30/20 amp full hookups, potable water, a dump station, laundry, showers, WiFi, and cable TV right in town. Dayton State Park and Washoe Lake State Park provide non-hookup sites with potable water spigots, restrooms, and dump stations (great for filling fresh water and emptying tanks before heading home). Sparks Marina RV Park has full hookups, a pool, and a fitness room. If you're boondocking on nearby BLM land along the Carson River corridor, the nearest dump station and fresh water fill is at Virginia City RV Park or the Pilot truck stop in Sparks. Always top off water before climbing the grade.

What features and equipment come in a typical Virginia City RV rental?

You'll be impressed by how turn-key these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Virginia City sleeps 4 to 8 with a queen bed, convertible dinette, and bunks; a full kitchen with fridge, propane stove, microwave, and sink; a wet bath with toilet and shower; roof AC, propane furnace, and an onboard generator for boondocking. Most include seatbelts for everyone riding while moving, outdoor chairs, and basic cookware. Many hosts add WiFi hotspots, smart TVs, solar panels, and starter kits with linens and propane. Bluetooth-equipped campervan rental in Virginia City options are great for couples. Check the listing's Amenities tab to see exactly what's included and which add-ons are available.

What add-ons and extras can I get with my rental?

Hosts in the Virginia City area get creative with add-ons that make a family RV trip in Virginia City easier. Common options include linen and bedding packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camp chairs and tables ($15 to $25), generators ($10 to $25 per day), portable WiFi ($10 to $20 per day), bikes, kayaks, and propane fill-ups. Delivery and setup typically runs $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, with many waiving fees for stays at Virginia City RV Park. Pickup and dropoff times are set by the host (often 1 PM pickup, 11 AM return). All add-ons show clearly on the listing page; just check the boxes you want before you book.

How does the security deposit and payment work?

Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Virginia City through RVezy, your card is charged the trip total (rental, fees, protection, and any add-ons) through the platform; no cash or e-transfers to hosts. The security deposit is a separate temporary hold placed on your card before the trip, typically between $500 and $1,500 depending on the rig, and it is released after dropoff once the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues, take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, empty the tanks if required, and clean up after pets.

Can I take an RV trip in Virginia City during winter?

Yes, winter RV camping in Virginia City is a hidden gem, with snow-dusted Comstock rooftops, empty boardwalks, and rates that can be 30 to 50% lower than summer. Just plan for real winter: highs in the 30s and 40s, lows in the teens to 20s, and roughly 56 inches of annual snowfall. Look for four-season RVs on RVezy with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and a propane furnace, and book a site with shore power like Virginia City RV Park so you can run the heater all night. Carry tire chains for Geiger Grade, watch Nevada 511 for road controls, and you'll have one of the most memorable Nevada trips imaginable.
