RV & camper rentals in Taos, NM

RV rental in Taos NM is surprisingly affordable, especially compared to traditional lodging in this high-demand mountain town. Expect to pay roughly $90 to $175 per night for a travel trailer or campervan, $150 to $250 for a Class C motorhome, and $250 to $400+ for a Class A. Prices peak during ski season (December through March) and the late-summer art and balloon festival window, while May and October offer the best cheap RV rental Taos deals. Pro tip: book mid-week stays and filter for Instant Book listings to snag last-minute discounts, and message hosts about weekly rates which can shave 10 to 20 percent off your total.

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Taos for nearly every rig on RVezy. New Mexico only requires a commercial or special endorsement for very large vehicles, and almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on the platform falls under standard non-commercial license rules. You'll also need to be 25 or older with a valid license, which RVezy verifies during the in-app ID confirmation step. Visiting from abroad? Grab an International Driving Permit from your home auto association before you fly into Albuquerque or Santa Fe and you're ready to roll toward the Sangre de Cristos.

Every RVezy booking in Taos automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on cruising the Enchanted Circle instead of worrying about what-ifs. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your preferred coverage level (not the host) during checkout, picking the tier that matches your comfort level. While this isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides real financial protection that gives first-time renters confidence to head into Carson National Forest or up to Wheeler Peak. Pair that with a host walkthrough at pickup and you have a safety net from the moment you drive off until the moment you return.

Booking your Taos RV trip is genuinely low-risk thanks to RVezy's standardized cancellation policy, which includes a money-back grace period right after you book. Exact refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel, and the full details are available during checkout and in your RVezy dashboard. Cancellation terms are set by RVezy, not individual hosts, so every listing follows the same fair process. If a host needs to cancel due to a spring snowstorm on US-64 over Bobcat Pass or smoke from a Carson National Forest fire, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit and the support team is just a call away.

Absolutely, Taos is one of the most dog-loving towns in the Southwest, and many hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Taos options. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see listings that welcome your four-legged companion (some hosts charge a small pet fee, typically $25 to $75 per trip). Once you're here, leashed dogs are welcome throughout Carson National Forest's 1.5 million acres, on the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge overlook trails, and at off-leash favorites like Fred Baca Park just south of Taos Plaza. Pro tip: pack extra water bowls, as the high-desert air at 7,000 feet dehydrates pups fast.

Yes, RV delivery Taos is a popular option and a lifesaver for first-timers who'd rather skip the highway drive in from Albuquerque. Many RVezy hosts will deliver your motorhome rental Taos directly to popular spots like Taos Valley RV Park, Taos Monte Bello RV Park, Sierra Village RV Park in Taos Canyon, or even a private property near Arroyo Seco. Hosts set delivery fees based on distance (often $2 to $4 per mile), and they'll level the RV, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing you the keys. Filter by Delivery on the search page and message the host to confirm your exact drop-off address.

Most Taos hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer road trip itineraries. Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each, which is easy to budget for. From Taos, the famous 84-mile Enchanted Circle loop through Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, and Red River fits comfortably within a single day's allotment. Santa Fe sits about 70 miles south, Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado is about 160 miles north, and Albuquerque is roughly 135 miles away. Pro tip: estimate your route on Google Maps before booking and message the host if you need a higher daily cap for an RV road trip from Taos.

Taos has a great mix of full-hookup parks and forest campgrounds within minutes of the historic Plaza. Taos Valley RV Park sits 2.8 miles south of the Plaza with 92 spacious sites and Sangre de Cristo views. Taos Monte Bello RV Park offers mesa-top sites at the foot of the mountains. Sierra Village RV Park in Taos Canyon has a stream running through it and easy access to the Enchanted Circle. For RV camping Taos with a forest feel, try Taos Canyon Stop RV Park along the Carson National Forest boundary. Book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for July, August, and ski season, when these parks fill fast.

Taos shines in two distinct windows: late May through mid-October for warm-weather adventures, and December through March for ski-town magic. Summer days hover in the 75 to 86°F range with cool 45 to 55°F nights, perfect for sleeping with the RV windows open. July and August bring afternoon monsoon thunderstorms followed by spectacular sunsets, while September and October deliver crisp blue skies and golden aspens along the Enchanted Circle. Winter lows can drop into the teens but Taos Ski Valley powder is world-class. Local insider tip: visit in late September for the Taos Wool Festival and aspen peak without the summer crowds.

Yes, and you're in great company, most Taos RV renters are first-timers. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, propane, water systems, and dump procedures before you ever turn the key. For your first time renting an RV in Taos, consider starting with a Class B campervan or smaller Class C, which drive much like a large pickup truck. Hosts are reachable by message throughout your trip if questions pop up. Pro tip: book a delivered rental at Taos Valley RV Park for night one so you can settle in, get familiar with the rig, and hit the road confident the next morning.

You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat tire on US-64 near the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, a dead battery at a Carson National Forest trailhead, or you've locked yourself out at Eagle Nest Lake, one phone call dispatches help. Your host is also just a message away and knows the area inside and out, often the fastest source for a local tow recommendation. Cell service can be spotty in the mountains around Wheeler Peak and the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, so download offline maps and screenshot your roadside assistance number before you leave the Plaza area.

Interstate road trips are encouraged and Taos is perfectly positioned for them. Popular routes include heading north into Colorado for Great Sand Dunes National Park (about 160 miles) and Durango (about 215 miles), east into the Texas Panhandle, or west toward Arizona's Petrified Forest. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan and roadside assistance do not extend across that border. For cross-border travel into Canada, message your host first since approval is required. Most hosts happily approve multi-state itineraries, just confirm your route during booking so everyone is on the same page.

Plan realistically and you will be a happy camper. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches run 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailer mileage depends on your tow vehicle but expect a 25 to 40 percent MPG hit while towing. Gas in Taos generally runs slightly above the national average due to the remote mountain location, so fuel up in Espanola or Santa Fe if you are driving in. Pro tip: the full 84-mile Enchanted Circle loop in a Class C will cost roughly $30 to $45 in fuel, an affordable day of jaw-dropping scenery.

For peak periods, book early, ideally 3 to 6 months out for July, August, ski season holidays, and the Taos Pueblo Pow Wow weekend in early July. Private parks like Taos Valley RV Park and Taos Monte Bello RV Park take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Carson National Forest campgrounds such as Cuchilla, Las Petacas, and Lower Hondo are reserved through Recreation.gov, where bookings open up to 6 months ahead. Shoulder-season trips in May or late September are much easier and you can often grab a spot 1 to 2 weeks out. Insider tip: weeknight stays are dramatically easier to book than weekends.

Taos sits at 7,000 feet elevation, so expect mountain driving with grades, switchbacks, and dramatic elevation changes, especially on the Enchanted Circle, US-64 toward Tres Piedras, and NM-150 up to Taos Ski Valley. Roads are paved and well-maintained, but in winter (November through March) chains or snow tires may be required on the ski valley road and Bobcat Pass between Eagle Nest and Red River. Summer monsoon afternoons bring brief but intense thunderstorms; pull over and let them pass. Pro tip: drive Highway 68 (the River Road from Pilar) in daylight your first time, the canyon views of the Rio Grande are worth slowing down for.

If you're visiting from October through April, yes, and it's part of the adventure. Taos sits at 7,000 feet, with overnight temps dropping into the teens or single digits in mid-winter. The good news: many RVezy listings in the area come equipped for cold weather with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and shore-power compatible setups, perfect for ski trips to Taos Ski Valley. Just message your host to confirm winter-readiness before booking, and stay at parks like Taos Monte Bello or Taos Valley RV Park that keep water hookups operational with insulated risers. Pro tip: pack thermal curtains and a small space heater for shore-power nights to stretch your propane.

Most private RV parks near Taos offer the full package: 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, free Wi-Fi, hot showers, and laundry. Taos Valley RV Park, Taos Monte Bello, and Taos Canyon Stop all have full hookups plus dump stations on site, so you won't need to hunt one down. Carson National Forest campgrounds are more rustic, typically offering vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings but no hookups, ideal if your rental has a generator and freshwater tank. Need to refill water or dump tanks mid-trip? Taos Monte Bello and Sierra Village both sell day-use dump and fill access for a small fee.

You'll be impressed. A typical campervan rental Taos or Class C motorhome on RVezy comes with a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), wet or dry bathroom with a toilet and shower, dinette that converts to extra sleeping, climate control, and roof-mounted AC plus propane furnace, exactly what you want for those 40-degree Taos nights. Many include generators for boondocking in Carson National Forest, outdoor speakers, awnings, and some even offer Starlink Wi-Fi or solar. Each listing on RVezy spells out the sleeps count, bed configuration, and amenities, and you can filter by Sleeps to match your family RV trip Taos group size.

RVezy hosts in Taos love to make trips easier with add-ons like camp chairs and tables, propane refills, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks, generators, Starlink, and pet packages, typically $10 to $50 each per trip. Many offer delivery and setup at your chosen campground (perfect for first-timers nervous about backing into a site at Sipapu or Eagle Nest Lake). Mileage policies are listed clearly on each listing, usually 100 to 150 free miles per day, and pickup/dropoff windows are flexible if you message ahead. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a bedding kit on your first booking, you'll arrive to a ready-to-camp RV.

Payment is simple and secure through RVezy: you pay your trip total via credit card at booking, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, and released after a clean return. To avoid any deposit issues, take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, return it at the agreed fuel level, and dump tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: dump and refill water at Taos Monte Bello on your way back into town before returning the rig.
