Taylor was a great host and had an awesome RV. They provided a detailed overview of the RV when we picked it up and had us on the road on the family trip! The RV size and layout was perfect for our family of 5, with the bunkroom being a nice space for the kids own room. The kitchen had everything we needed and they had the small touches that made a huge difference (bag of charcoal). Thank you for a great trip!

Nicholas was excellent with communication. He gladly answered all my questions without hesitation. The camper REALLY has all you would need for camping, including hand soap, dish soap and body wash. He hooked it all up for us so when we got there all we had to do was unpack. There were 5 of us and I thought we would fit without issue, however, it was tight. But we did not spend much time in there so it was ok. I would (and likely will) definitely rent from Nicholas again. We had a great time.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Hampton, VA

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Hampton?

RV rental in Hampton is one of the more affordable ways to explore Coastal Virginia. On RVezy you can expect travel trailers starting around $90 to $130 per night, Class C motorhomes around $150 to $250 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes between $250 and $400 per night, depending on age and amenities. For a cheap RV rental in Hampton that families love, book midweek in April, May, or October when summer beach demand cools off but the weather is still gorgeous. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and message hosts about weekly discounts. Many owners drop their nightly rate 10 to 20 percent for stays of five nights or longer, which makes a week along the Chesapeake Bay surprisingly budget-friendly.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Hampton, Virginia?

Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Hampton, Virginia. Virginia DMV exempts recreational vehicles used for personal purposes from any Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirement, so even larger Class A motorhomes can be driven on your standard license. You'll just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy will verify your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from another country? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most guests are surprised how straightforward it is. Once your booking is confirmed, your host will walk you through every system at pickup, so you'll feel confident before you even leave the driveway.

What protection and roadside assistance is included with my Hampton RV rental?

You are covered from the moment you hit the road. Every RV rental in Hampton booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel or a dead battery at Buckroe Beach is just a phone call away. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you can pick the option that matches how adventurous you plan to be. It removes the biggest worry most first-time renters have, so you can book with confidence and focus on the Chesapeake Bay sunsets instead.

What happens if I need to cancel my Hampton RV trip?

Booking is lower-risk than you might think. RVezy applies a clear, standardized cancellation policy across every listing (hosts do not set this themselves), and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you book so you have time to finalize plans. The exact refund depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook. Worried about Atlantic storm season? Lean toward an April, May, or October Hampton RV trip when the weather is gorgeous and disruptions are rare. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every booking if plans change.

Can I bring my dog on a Hampton RV rental?

Absolutely, and Hampton is a wonderful place for traveling with pets. Plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Hampton options are available on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see listings whose hosts welcome dogs (usually with a small cleaning fee). Hampton has dog-friendly spots like the Fort Monroe Seawall Trail (leashed pups welcome year-round) and Grandview Nature Preserve's wooded coastal trails. One local quirk to know: dogs are not allowed on Buckroe Beach or other Hampton city beaches from May 15 through September 15, so plan beach days at Fort Monroe's pet trails instead during summer. Outside those dates, leashed dogs are welcome on most sandy stretches. Always confirm pet details with your host before booking.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground in Hampton?

Yes, and RV delivery Hampton is one of the smartest moves for first-time renters. Many RVezy hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campsite at places like The Colonies RV & Travel Park at Fort Monroe, Newport News Park Campground, or even First Landing State Park down in Virginia Beach. They'll level it, hook up power and water, lower the awning, and walk you through every system so you can simply show up with groceries and start your vacation. Delivery fees vary by distance, typically $2 to $5 per mile round trip from the host's home base. To find delivery-ready listings, toggle the Delivery filter when you search. It's the easiest way to enjoy RV camping Hampton without ever towing a thing.

How does mileage work, and how far can I drive on my Hampton RV trip?

You have plenty of room to roam. Most Hampton hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for an RV road trip from Hampton. Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each, and you will see the exact policy on every listing before you book. To put it in perspective: Williamsburg and Busch Gardens are about 25 miles northwest, Virginia Beach Oceanfront is around 20 miles southeast, the Outer Banks of North Carolina are roughly 110 miles south, Richmond is 75 miles west, and Washington, DC is about 190 miles north. A standard 100-mile daily allotment easily covers a week of beach days and day trips. Planning a bigger loop? Message the host before booking and ask about an unlimited mileage upgrade.

Where are the best campgrounds near Hampton, VA?

You're spoiled for choice when it comes to best campgrounds near Hampton. Top picks include The Colonies RV & Travel Park, a small 14-site gem tucked inside Fort Monroe National Monument with paved pads, 30/50 amp hookups, and water views; Newport News Park Campground, about 10 miles northwest with 188 wooded sites, hiking trails, and freshwater fishing; Sandy Bottom Nature Park right in Hampton city limits, perfect for a quick wooded escape; First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach (25 miles southeast) with direct Chesapeake Bay beach access; and Cherrystone Family Camping Resort across the Bay Bridge-Tunnel for full-resort amenities. Book Fort Monroe and First Landing several months ahead for summer weekends, they fill fast. Want it easy? Many RVezy hosts will deliver right to your reserved site.

When is the best time of year to take an RV trip to Hampton?

Hampton's coastal climate gives you a genuinely long camping season. The sweet spots are mid-April through May and mid-September through October, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 65 to 78°F range, humidity drops, and the Chesapeake Bay breezes are perfect for beach walks. June through August brings warm, muggy weather with highs near 88°F (great for swimming at Buckroe Beach, but pack the AC). Winter is mild by Mid-Atlantic standards, with January highs around 49°F and snow falling only a few days a year, so a winter Hampton RV trip is genuinely doable in a four-season rig. Local insider tip: visit during the Hampton Jazz Festival in late June or the Blackbeard Pirate Festival in early June for a one-of-a-kind weekend.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one in Hampton?

You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a thorough walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slides, generator, and dumping, and they're a text away during your trip. Hampton itself is very RV-friendly: the streets near Buckroe Beach and Fort Monroe are wide and flat, and Interstate 64 is the main artery for getting around the Peninsula. The one thing to plan around is the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, which has a 13'6" clearance (fine for nearly every standard RV) and can back up during summer Friday afternoons, so travel early or midday. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and let them handle the wheel.

What if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

Help is always one phone call away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Your host is typically your first point of contact for quirks specific to their RV (like how the awning retracts or which switch runs the water pump), and most Hampton hosts pride themselves on quick replies. For bigger issues, RVezy support is available before, during, and after every trip. Hampton is also conveniently positioned with multiple RV service centers nearby in Newport News and Yorktown, plus a Camping World location off Interstate 64, so parts and repairs are easy to find if needed.

What are the best road trips from Hampton?

Hampton is one of the best launching pads on the East Coast for an RV road trip. Easy multi-day loops from your RV rental in Hampton include Williamsburg and Jamestown (25 miles northwest, perfect for a Colonial history weekend), Virginia Beach Oceanfront (around 20 miles southeast for boardwalk and surf), the Outer Banks of North Carolina including Kitty Hawk and Cape Hatteras (110 to 200 miles south), Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive (about 175 miles northwest for fall foliage and mountain camping), and Washington, DC (190 miles north). Cross-border travel into Canada or Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but you have a lifetime of US Atlantic-coast adventure within a day's drive. Pro tip: take Highway 17 instead of I-95 for a scenic, less stressful drive south.
nps.gov/shen/index.htm

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for gas?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable in any RV budget, but it's manageable. As of May 2026, regular gasoline in Virginia is averaging about $4.30 per gallon, with diesel closer to $5.55. Expect roughly 7 to 10 MPG for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 16 to 20 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 12 to 18 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. A 300-mile week of Hampton-area driving in a Class C will run roughly $100 to $150 in fuel. Save smart by filling up at warehouse clubs like Sam's Club or Costco in Newport News, and use the GasBuddy app to spot deals. For a campervan rental Hampton trip, fuel costs feel almost like a regular car.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Hampton?

For peak summer weekends, book your campsite as soon as you book the RV. Virginia State Parks like First Landing open reservations 11 months in advance through the Reserve America system, and prime Chesapeake Bay sites disappear quickly for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends. The Colonies RV & Travel Park at Fort Monroe (just 14 sites) takes direct reservations and often books months out for summer. For shoulder-season weekday stays in April, May, September, or October, you can often grab a spot a week or two out. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) are easier to book and noticeably quieter, especially at popular spots like Newport News Park.
reserveamerica.com/

What are driving conditions like in and around Hampton?

Driving in Hampton is genuinely easy for an RV. The roads are flat, the speed limits are reasonable, and you won't find the steep mountain grades you'd encounter further west in Virginia. The one thing every visitor should plan around is the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT) on Interstate 64, which connects Hampton to Norfolk under the Chesapeake Bay. It has a 13'6" clearance, fits all standard RVs, and is currently being expanded, but it can jam during Friday summer evenings and Sunday returns. Plan crossings before 11 AM or after 8 PM. Coastal winds can be brisk on bridges, so go easy on high-profile rigs. Hurricane season (August through October) occasionally brings tropical storms, but local advance warning is excellent.
virginiadot.org/travel/hrbt-default.asp

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Hampton?

Most established campgrounds near Hampton are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. You'll typically find 30 and 50 amp electrical hookups, city water, and sewer or dump station access. The Colonies RV & Travel Park at Fort Monroe has full hookups with paved pads, Newport News Park offers water and electric with a central dump station, and First Landing State Park provides water and electric plus modern bathhouses with hot showers. Most parks include picnic tables, fire rings, and Wi-Fi (signal strength varies). For filling fresh water and dumping tanks on the road, every Virginia State Park campground has a public dump station, and many private parks let day-users dump for around $10 to $20. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot sewer hose, as some Hampton-area sites are a bit longer reach than average.

What is inside a typical Hampton RV rental?

Modern RV rentals in Hampton come fully equipped so you can move in and relax. A typical motorhome rental in Hampton includes a queen or king bed, additional bunks or convertible dinettes, a kitchen with a fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a full bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, a TV, and often a backup camera. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, generators for off-grid stops, and seatbelts for every passenger (always confirm sleep capacity matches travel capacity). Campervan rentals are smaller but cleverly designed with a bed, mini-kitchen, and roof fan. Each listing's photo gallery and amenity list shows exactly what is included, and you can message the host directly with any questions before you book.

What add-ons and options can I get with my Hampton RV rental?

Hosts in Hampton offer all kinds of helpful add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots, pans, and dishes ($25 to $50), portable grills, bikes, kayaks, beach chairs, generators, and pre-stocked propane. RV delivery in Hampton is the big one and well worth it for first-timers (around $2 to $5 per mile from the host's location). Pickup and drop-off windows are typically 1 to 4 PM and 11 AM the next day, but many hosts offer flexible timing if you ask. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per night to truly unlimited, so check the listing's details and message the host about anything that is not obvious before booking.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure through the RVezy platform, with no cash or side payments to the host. You pay the full booking amount (rental, protection, taxes, and any add-ons) by credit or debit card when you confirm your reservation. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before the trip, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value, and it is released back to you after the host confirms the rig was returned in good shape, usually within a few days of drop-off. To avoid surprises: take photos of the RV interior and exterior at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's fuel and tank-dumping instructions, and stay in touch through the RVezy messaging system so everything is documented.
