The Slocan Valley Rail Trail is the area's flagship recreational asset, a 50-kilometre non-motorized route running along the Slocan River between South Slocan and the Village of Slocan, with seven trailheads and gentle rail-grade terrain suited to family cycling and easy walks. Paddling and swimming on Slocan Lake are the other draws. Public boat launches at Slocan, Silverton, and New Denver provide access to Valhalla Provincial Park on the far shore, and the park has several beaches reachable only by boat or trail. The practical RV season runs mid-May through early October. Springer Creek RV Park and Campground operates from May 18 to October 1, and most private campgrounds in the Slocan Valley follow a similar window. July and August bring the warmest, driest weather and also the heaviest visitor traffic, with Valhalla busiest on weekends and holidays during those months. July and August book out fastest, particularly around long weekends, so reservations should be made well in advance. September, especially mid-week, offers a better chance of quieter sites, while spring can be pleasant but carries a higher chance of rain and lingering snow at elevation. Winter access is limited. Trails through Valhalla are under snow through the winter season, and most private campgrounds close. Wildfire has also closed campsites and trails along Slocan Lake in Valhalla, so trip planners should check the BC Parks page for the current Order of the Regional Director before travel.

Our trailer experience at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park was absolutely amazing! From. The moment we met Curtis, everything exceeded our expectations. The trailer itself was fabulous, spotless clean, beautifully set up, and I incredibly comfortable. Everything worked perfectly, which made our stay completely stress-free. The bedding was incredibly cozy and luxurious, and all the thoughtful touches were appreciated. Delicious granola and coffee were awesome. Also an original piece if art, a lovely card made by his daughter. Just spectacular. This was hands down one of our best experiences. I would totally do it again. Thanks

Private campgrounds in the Slocan Valley, including Karibu Park Cottages and Campground, Lemon Creek Lodge and Campground, Valhalla Pines Campground, and Granite Point Golf and RV, are booked directly with each operator by phone or through their own websites. Springer Creek RV Park and Campground is operated by the Village of Slocan and offers an online reservation system as well as phone bookings. BC provincial park campgrounds in the wider region use the Discover Camping Reservation Service to check availability, reserve a site or yurt, and manage bookings. Valhalla Provincial Park itself works differently: all campgrounds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge, with no reservation system. The park is busiest on weekends and holidays in July and August.

What to expect at Central Kootenay H campgrounds

Expect a mix of full-hookup RV sites and simpler tent or dry sites. Springer Creek RV Park and Campground, for example, offers full and partial hookup sites with 50- and 30-amp electrical service, creekside tenting, a sani-dump, coin-op showers, a wheelchair-accessible washroom, and free WiFi in a forested setting with Springer Creek flowing through the property.
