Campgrounds near Okanagan-Similkameen I
Okanagan-Similkameen I sits in the south end of British Columbia's Okanagan Valley, near the town of Okanagan Falls between Skaha Lake and Vaseux Lake. The area is one of Canada's driest and warmest interior pockets, with wineries, orchards, and lake beaches within a short drive of most sites. Penticton, the region's commercial hub, is roughly 20 minutes north and covers grocery, fuel, and RV supply needs.
Campground options mix provincial parkland with private RV resorts. Okanagan Falls Provincial Park is a compact provincial park managed by the Osoyoos Indian Band on the Okanagan River south of Skaha Lake, with 25 vehicle-accessible gravel campsites, about a third of them directly on the river. Private options nearby include Camp-Along Resort, Banbury Green RV and Camping Resort, Twin Lakes Golf Course and RV Park, and Sun and Sand RV Park, which together cover lake access, golf, and full-hookup RV needs.
Most visitors use the area as a base for winery tours, cycling the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, and paddling the chain of Okanagan lakes.
Things to do near Okanagan-Similkameen I
Water is the main draw. Skaha and Vaseux lakes support swimming, paddleboarding, and small-boat use, and the Okanagan River channel between Penticton and Skaha Lake is a popular float. Anglers work the lakes and river for trout and bass, and anyone fishing in British Columbia must have an appropriate licence.
The surrounding hills hold wildlife and birding stops. The park offers superb bird watching, with sightings of Western wood peewees, Yellow warblers, Northern orioles and Least flycatchers, and contains habitat for 18 species of bats, one of the highest concentrations in Canada.
Off the water, the area is dense with wineries, cideries, and fruit stands along Highway 97 and the Naramata Bench. Twin Lakes Golf Course and RV Park provides on-site golf, and cycling routes on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail are accessible from Penticton.

The camping window in this part of the South Okanagan is long by BC standards. Okanagan Falls Provincial Park operates from April 1 to mid October, weather dependent, and nearby Vaseux Lake runs a similar schedule from April to late October. Private resorts such as Camp-Along Resort, Banbury Green RV and Camping Resort, and Sun and Sand RV Park typically open earlier in spring and stay open later into fall than the provincial sites.
July and August are peak season. Days are hot and dry, lake beaches are busy, and reservations at provincial parks are essentially required. Wildfire season in the BC interior generally runs through mid-summer into September, so campfire bans and smoke advisories are possible during peak weeks.
Shoulder months, April to mid-June and September to mid-October, bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site availability. Winter camping options are limited; most provincial campgrounds and many private parks close by late October.

We had a great stay in Christine’s trailer. It was clean, comfortable, and really well stocked with everything we needed. The layout worked great for us, especially with the kids. Christine was very communicative and helpful, sent lots of useful information ahead of time, and was quick to answer any questions I had. It made the whole process really easy. I would definitely recommend renting from her.

Wonderful hosts, great communication and spacious! Christine and Mike were very kind and easy to communicate with. They had the RV set up prior to our check in and even set out an outdoor carpet and chairs for us. Everything worked great. Would definitely rent again!

How to book campgrounds near Okanagan-Similkameen I
Provincial park sites are handled through BC Parks' reservation system. Sites at Okanagan Falls Provincial Park are booked online through BC Parks' Discover Camping website, are reservable from mid-May through early September, and campers can reserve up to 14 nights per calendar year at this park. From April through mid-May and again from early September through mid-October, sites are first-come, first-served, and because campers check out at 11 a.m., arriving in the morning gives the best chance of getting a site.
Private parks including Camp-Along Resort, Banbury Green RV and Camping Resort, Twin Lakes Golf Course and RV Park, and Sun and Sand RV Park take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, booking several months out is standard; long weekends in July and August often sell out well before the season begins.
What to expect
Sites in the area range from basic provincial-park pull-ins to full-service RV resorts. The partially shaded provincial campground has both flush toilets and pit toilets, and cold water taps for drinking water, but no showers, so RVers who want hookups, showers, and laundry should plan on private parks such as Banbury Green RV and Camping Resort, Camp-Along Resort, Twin Lakes Golf Course and RV Park, or Sun and Sand RV Park.
Roads into some campgrounds are narrow. The access to Okanagan Falls Provincial Park is on Green Lake Road, approximately 500 metres from the junction of Hwy. 97, and is narrow with a blind corner, so caution is required. Cell service is generally reliable near Penticton and Okanagan Falls and thins out on backroads.
Expect hot, sunny days in summer, cold clear nights in shoulder season, and dust on gravel sites. Bring shade, water, and layers.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Okanagan-Similkameen I, BC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Okanagan-Similkameen, BC?
Great news: RV rental in Okanagan-Similkameen is one of the most affordable ways to experience BC's wine country and Similkameen Valley. On RVezy, towable trailers in the region average around $120 CAD per night, while motorhomes hover around $200 CAD per night, and most hosts offer 10-20% discounts for weekly or monthly bookings. For a cheap RV rental in Okanagan-Similkameen, look at travel trailers or older Class C motorhomes, and book mid-week or in shoulder season (May or September) when nightly rates and campsite fees both drop. Pro tip: pair a lower-cost trailer with a Provincial Park campsite at $20-$35 a night for the best total trip value.
tourismsimilkameen.com/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in BC?
Good news: for almost every RV rental in Okanagan-Similkameen, your regular BC Class 5 (or equivalent provincial) driver's license is all you need, no Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or RV-specific license required. ICBC allows Class 5 drivers to operate most motorhomes and tow trailers within standard non-commercial weight limits. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home driver's license, and an International Driving Permit is recommended if your license is not in English or French. RVezy renters must generally be 25 or older with a valid license, and identity confirmation happens right inside the platform so pickup day is smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I book an Okanagan-Similkameen RV trip?
Peace of mind comes standard. Every RV rental in Okanagan-Similkameen booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on Skaha Lake sunsets instead of worst-case scenarios. During booking, you choose the protection level that fits your trip, from basic to premium coverage, and the choice is yours, not the host's. Plans provide meaningful financial protection on the road through wine country, Manning Park, and the Similkameen Valley. Pro tip: consider a higher-tier package if you are planning longer drives on Highway 3 or the Crowsnest, where wildlife crossings are common at dusk.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my Okanagan-Similkameen RV booking?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a built-in money-back grace period after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If life happens, wildfire smoke rolls into the valley, a family emergency comes up, or BC weather throws a curveball, your refund options depend on how close you are to your trip start date. For full details, review the cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before booking. Pro tip: book early to secure peak-season Okanagan-Similkameen rentals; you will still have the grace-period window to adjust if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Okanagan-Similkameen RV rental?
Absolutely, the Okanagan-Similkameen is one of the most dog-friendly corners of BC, and finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Okanagan-Similkameen is as easy as toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy. Many hosts welcome well-behaved pups, sometimes for a small cleaning fee. Once you've got your rig, head to off-leash beaches in Penticton, the Kettle Valley Rail Trail (which is leash-friendly), or hike the dog-approved trails around Vaseux Lake. Most BC Provincial Park campgrounds allow leashed pets on roads and beaches (with a few restricted swim areas), so your road trip companion can come along almost everywhere. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and any deposit specifics.
bcparks.ca/visit/pets/Can the RV be delivered to my campground in the Okanagan-Similkameen?
Yes, RV delivery in Okanagan-Similkameen is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the RV to your campsite at places like Wright's Beach Camp in Penticton, sẁiẁs (Haynes Point) Provincial Park in Osoyoos, or Stemwinder Provincial Park near Hedley, level it, connect hookups, and walk you through every system. Filter listings using the Delivery toggle to see who offers it and how far they will travel. Pro tip: delivery fees are set by the host and usually based on distance, so picking a campground within 30-60 minutes of Penticton or Princeton keeps costs reasonable.
bcparks.ca/reservations/How far can I travel from Okanagan-Similkameen on an RV trip?
You've got incredible range from this corner of BC. Each RVezy listing shows the host's daily mileage allowance (some even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage), so check that on the listing page before you book. From Penticton, you can be in Manning Provincial Park in about 1.5 hours, Kelowna in 1 hour, Vancouver in 4.5 hours (about 400 km), Banff in roughly 7 hours, and the US border at Osoyoos in just 45 minutes. A classic RV road trip from Okanagan-Similkameen loops through Kootenay country via Highway 3 to Nelson (about 4 hours). Pro tip: if you're planning big mileage days, message the host before booking to negotiate a higher allowance.
www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/transportation/driving-and-cyclingWhere are the best campgrounds to stay near Okanagan-Similkameen?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Okanagan-Similkameen for RV camping include sẁiẁs (Haynes Point) Provincial Park on Osoyoos Lake with 41 lakefront sites, Okanagan Falls Provincial Park along the Okanagan River channel, Stemwinder Provincial Park near Hedley with riverside sites, Bromley Rock Provincial Park east of Princeton, and Princeton Municipal RV Park with 73 riverfront sites right on the Similkameen River. For full hookups, Walton's Lakefront Resort and Gallagher Lake Resort near Oliver are favourites. Pro tip: sẁiẁs (Haynes Point) is one of the most-requested parks in all of BC, so think of it as a must-book the day reservations open.
bcparks.ca/swiws-park/When is the best time to plan an RV trip to Okanagan-Similkameen?
The sweet spot is May through early October, with July and August delivering classic hot, dry Okanagan summers (daytime highs of 28-35°C and warm lake water perfect for swimming). May and June bring blossom season in the orchards and quieter campgrounds, while September is wine harvest, with daytime temperatures still in the low-20s and noticeably lower rental and campsite prices. Winters here are surprisingly mild compared to the rest of Canada, with daytime highs around 0-5°C in Penticton, so winterized RV rentals are available for shoulder-season getaways and ski trips to Apex Mountain or Manning Park. Pro tip: book a September trip if you want sunshine, wineries, and the lowest crowds.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/results_1991_2020_e.html?searchType=stnProv&lstProvince=BCI have never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will do great, the Okanagan-Similkameen is one of the easiest regions in BC for first time renting an RV. Highway 97 between Osoyoos and Penticton and Highway 3A through the Similkameen Valley are wide, well-maintained, and far less stressful than mountain passes or big-city driving. Every RVezy host gives a walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, hookups, propane, slide-outs, and the dump station so you are not guessing. You can also message hosts beforehand with questions. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20-25 foot travel trailer for your first trip; they handle like a large truck and fit easily into most campsites and winery parking lots.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003356633-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on my trip?
You will not be stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 3 near Keremeos or a dead battery at Manning Park is just a phone call away. For non-emergency issues like a tricky furnace or a finicky slide-out, your host is usually your first call; they know their RV better than anyone. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after the trip if you need help resolving an issue. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number and the RVezy roadside line in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Okanagan-Similkameen RV rental across the US border?
Cross-border trips are sometimes possible, but never assume; always confirm directly with your host before booking. With Osoyoos sitting right on the US-Canada border, popular routes into Washington State (think the North Cascades or Lake Chelan) are tempting, and some hosts will allow them with advance notice and possible insurance adjustments. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection package and insurance don't extend there. Pro tip: message the host through the listing page before booking, share your exact route (for example Osoyoos to Winthrop, WA), and bring passports and proof of insurance to the border. Permitted RV travel within Canada is generally straightforward.
cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/menu-eng.htmlHow much should I budget for fuel on an Okanagan-Similkameen RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier things to estimate. Most Class C motorhomes get 14-18 miles per gallon (about 13-17 L/100km), Class B campervans 18-22 MPG, and a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer 12-16 MPG. BC gas prices in the Okanagan tend to run higher than the national average; expect around $1.55-$1.85 CAD per litre in Penticton, Oliver, and Princeton. A 500 km loop from Penticton to Manning Park and back in a Class C will run roughly $130-$170 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Osoyoos or Oliver where prices are often a few cents lower than Penticton, and avoid Manning Park's lone pump where rates spike.
www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/natural-gas-oil/petroleum-products/transportation-fuel-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground in Okanagan-Similkameen?
For BC Parks campgrounds (sẁiẁs/Haynes Point, Okanagan Falls, Bromley Rock, Stemwinder, Vaseux Lake, and Manning Park), the magic number is four months ahead through the BC Parks reservation system at camping.bcparks.ca. Reservations open daily on a rolling four-month window, and lakefront sites in July and August fill within minutes. For private RV parks like Walton's Lakefront Resort or Wright's Beach Camp, 2-4 months ahead is usually enough, though peak summer weekends still go fast. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for 7:00 AM Pacific exactly four months before your desired arrival date and have your account logged in and ready.
bcparks.ca/reservations/What are the driving conditions like in Okanagan-Similkameen?
Mostly easy, with a few sections to know about. Highway 97 through the Okanagan Valley is divided and smooth from Osoyoos up to Penticton and Kelowna. Highway 3 (the Crowsnest) through the Similkameen Valley is two-lane with some winding sections near Keremeos and a steep climb over Sunday Summit between Princeton and Manning Park, so expect to drive slowly uphill in a motorhome. Wildlife (deer, bighorn sheep near Vaseux Lake) is common at dawn and dusk. Check DriveBC for real-time conditions, especially in spring snowmelt and fall wildfire season. Pro tip: avoid driving the passes after dark when possible, and pull over at Bromley Rock for a stretch break with a river view.
drivebc.ca/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds in Okanagan-Similkameen?
Expect great variety. BC Provincial Parks like sẁiẁs (Haynes Point), Okanagan Falls, and Bromley Rock typically offer picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, potable water taps, and a sani-dump station, but most are unserviced (no hookups), which is great for self-contained RVs. Private RV parks like Walton's Lakefront Resort, Gallagher Lake, and Princeton Golf and RV Park offer 15/30/50-amp power, water, and sewer hookups, plus showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Public dump stations exist in Penticton, Osoyoos, and Princeton. Pro tip: top up fresh water at the BC Parks tap before checking in and locate the nearest dump station in advance; many provincial parks share one, so timing matters at checkout.
bcparks.ca/amenities/What's inside a typical RV rental in Okanagan-Similkameen?
More than you'd think. A typical motorhome rental in Okanagan-Similkameen comes fully equipped: a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and bunks (sleeping 4-8), a kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (furnace and air conditioning, essential for those 35°C July afternoons in Oliver), a generator or solar, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include outdoor chairs, a BBQ, a hose, and leveling blocks. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer similar layouts minus the cab. Pro tip: each listing's photos and amenity list show exactly what's included, and you can message the host to request specifics like a coffee maker or pack-and-play.
tc.gc.ca/en/services/road/safety-standards-vehicles-tires-child-car-seats.htmlWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Okanagan-Similkameen RV rental?
Hosts in the region offer plenty of extras to make life easier. Popular add-ons include kitchen and linen kits ($25-$75), bike racks, kayak or SUP carriers (perfect for Skaha and Osoyoos Lakes), generators, outdoor BBQs, propane top-ups, and the big one: delivery and setup right to your campground. Mileage policies vary by host (commonly 150-250 km per night included, with extra km at $0.30-$0.50), and pickup/dropoff times are set by the host on the listing. Pro tip: look for Instant Book listings if you want to lock in fast, and bundle delivery + setup + linens for a near-turnkey first time RV trip.
www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/transportationHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card; never send money directly to a host outside the site, as doing so voids protection. The security deposit is a pre-authorization hold (not a charge) on your card before pickup and is released after the trip once the RV is returned in the agreed condition. Deposit amounts are set by the host and shown clearly on the listing. To avoid any holdback issues, do a pre-trip walkthrough video with your host, then return the RV clean, with tanks emptied and fuel topped up to the agreed level. Pro tip: keep all receipts and post-trip messages inside the RVezy app, that is your record if any disputes come up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAny insider tips for getting the most out of the Okanagan-Similkameen?
Here's the local-favourite move: skip the busy Penticton beachfront on summer Saturdays and head into the Similkameen Valley instead. Cawston is Canada's organic farming capital, you can fill the RV fridge with peaches, cherries, and tomatoes straight from roadside stands for a fraction of grocery prices. From there, it's a short drive to Nk'Mip Cellars (North America's first Indigenous-owned winery) in Osoyoos and the protected pocket desert at the Osoyoos Desert Centre. For a family RV trip in Okanagan-Similkameen, end the day at the Penticton Channel float (a 7-km lazy river drift). Pro tip: visit on a Sunday for the Penticton Farmers Market, then take the Kettle Valley Rail Trail trestles by bike at sunset.
