Camping near Thamesford, Ontario
Thamesford sits in Oxford County in southwestern Ontario, roughly midway between London and Woodstock along Highway 2 and just north of the 401. The location makes it a practical base for RV travellers exploring the Thames Valley, Stratford, St. Marys, and the Lake Erie north shore, all within about an hour's drive.
Camping options within a short drive range from small private parks to conservation-area campgrounds. Maple Grove Christian Retreat Centre and Golden Pond RV Resort sit close to town, while Centennial Park Camping, Lakeside Resort, and Camper's Corner RV Campground round out the nearby list. Most private parks in the region cater to trailers and motorhomes with full or partial hookups, and many offer seasonal sites alongside nightly stays.
Public camping in the wider area is run largely by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, which operates Pittock, Wildwood, and Fanshawe conservation areas. Ontario Parks properties such as Pinery on Lake Huron are also reachable for day trips or overnight side loops.
Things to do around Thamesford
The Thames River and its reservoirs anchor most outdoor plans. Pittock and Wildwood Conservation Areas offer swimming, paddling, fishing for bass and pike, and multi-use trails suitable for families. Wildwood rents kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddle boards, and campers there can also use a staffed swimming pool. Cycling is popular on quiet county roads and on rail-trail sections through Oxford County.
Day trips fill in the rest of the itinerary. Stratford is about a half-hour north for the Stratford Festival and river walks, London is fifteen minutes west for museums and Storybook Gardens, and St. Marys draws visitors to the outdoor Quarry swimming hole and the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
For rainy afternoons, small-town main streets in Ingersoll, Woodstock, and Embro offer cafes, farm markets, and cheese and dairy stops tied to the region's agricultural heritage.

The southwestern Ontario camping season generally runs from early May through mid-October. Upper Thames River Conservation Authority campgrounds at Fanshawe, Pittock, and Wildwood typically open on May 1 and close in the second half of October, and most private parks follow a similar window.
July and August are the busiest months. Weekends around Canada Day, the August civic holiday, and Labour Day fill fastest, and waterfront sites at conservation areas are often booked well ahead. June and September tend to be quieter, with warm days, cooler nights, and lower mosquito pressure by early autumn.
Winter camping is limited in the immediate area. Some private parks host seasonal residents year-round, but most short-stay sites, water hookups, and dump stations are closed from November through April due to freezing temperatures and snow. RV travellers planning shoulder-season trips should confirm which loops, services, and gates remain open before arrival.

How to book a site
Upper Thames River Conservation Authority campgrounds, including Pittock, Wildwood, and Fanshawe, use an online reservation system on the authority's website. Bookings for the full season open on February 1, and popular holiday weekends sell out quickly once the window opens. UTRCA also enforces multi-night minimums on holiday weekends and on summer weekends from the third Friday in June through Labour Day.
Ontario Parks properties farther afield, such as Pinery and MacGregor Point, are booked through the Ontario Parks reservation service, which opens a rolling five-month window per arrival date starting at 7 a.m. Eastern. A reservation account and credit card are required at time of booking.
Private parks near Thamesford, including Golden Pond RV Resort, Centennial Park Camping, Lakeside Resort, Camper's Corner RV Campground, and Maple Grove Christian Retreat Centre, are usually booked by phone or through each operator's own website. Seasonal sites are common, so nightly availability for large rigs can be tight in peak summer.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Thamesford is gently rolling farmland cut by the Thames River. Sites are generally level, grassy or gravel, and shaded by mature hardwoods at the larger parks. Big-rig access is straightforward on paved county roads, and most parks accommodate travel trailers and Class A and C motorhomes without tight-turn issues.
Hookup availability varies. Conservation-area campgrounds typically offer a mix of unserviced, electrical, and full-service sites, while private parks lean toward 30- and 50-amp hookups with water and sewer. Cell coverage on the major Canadian carriers is reliable throughout Oxford County.
Wildlife is limited to raccoons, skunks, deer, and the occasional coyote, so standard food storage is enough. Summer thunderstorms can be strong, and biting insects are heaviest near water in June, so screens, awnings rated for wind, and repellent are worth packing.

Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see hosts who offer it and the per-kilometre rate. Pro tip: ask for delivery on a Thursday afternoon to beat the Friday Highway 401 traffic out of London.

climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting in Thamesford?
You're going to do great. First time renting an RV in Thamesford is genuinely easy because the surrounding roads (Highway 2, County Road 119, and the quieter routes through Embro and Kintore) have wide lanes, flat terrain, and almost no mountain driving. Every RVezy host gives you a full pickup walkthrough covering driving tips, dumping tanks, hookups, and propane, and you can text them anytime during your trip. If you're nervous about the drive, choose a Class B campervan rental Thamesford or a small travel trailer, both handle like a slightly bigger vehicle. And if it's something bigger, RVezy's support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number to your phone before you leave Thamesford, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and plate, it makes any call faster if you ever need help on Highway 401 or a back road near Tavistock.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Thamesford RV rental across the US border?

Confirm cross-border travel with your specific host before booking, since coverage needs to be in place for the US portion. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Bring your passport, vehicle registration, and a host-signed travel authorization letter. Pro tip: a Michigan loop through Sleeping Bear Dunes makes a fantastic 5-7 day motorhome rental Thamesford itinerary, and the border crossing at Sarnia is usually the quickest.

Gas stations in Thamesford and nearby Ingersoll often run a few cents cheaper than London or Woodstock, with Ontario fuel typically averaging around $1.45-$1.70 per litre in recent seasons. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but will add 20-30% to your tow vehicle's consumption. natural-resources.canada.ca/energy-sources/fossil-fuels/pricing/fuel-pricesHow far ahead should I book a campground for my Thamesford RV trip?
