Campgrounds and RV parks near New Carlisle, QC

The Baie des Chaleurs shoreline is the main draw. New Carlisle has a wooden boardwalk, a bird sanctuary, and a sand-and-gravel beach, plus the Espace René-Lévesque interpretive site honouring the former Quebec premier who grew up in the village. A local heritage tour links Loyalist-era churches and historic wooden residences. Within an hour's drive, families can reach Parc national de Miguasha, a UNESCO fossil site, and the beaches and salt marshes around Carleton-sur-Mer. Inland, Route 299 climbs to Parc national de la Gaspésie and the Chic-Choc Mountains for hiking. Eastward, Percé Rock, Bonaventure Island gannet colonies, and Forillon National Park are reachable as day trips or overnights. Cycling along Route 132, sea kayaking on the bay, and salmon rivers in Bonaventure County round out the options.

The Gaspé Peninsula has a short, intense camping season. Most private campgrounds along the Baie des Chaleurs operate roughly from late May or early June through mid to late September, with shoulder weeks dependent on weather. Camping Le Moulin Rouge, for example, operates from early June through the end of September. The Sépaq campground at Parc national de la Gaspésie runs from mid-May to mid-October, which is a useful benchmark for the region. July and August are peak months. Warm bay temperatures, the construction-holiday period in Quebec in late July, and Gaspésie tour traffic mean serviced sites near the coast can fill weeks ahead. June and early September are quieter and offer cooler nights, fewer biting insects later in the season, and easier reservations. May and October are shoulder months with cold nights, possible frost, and reduced services. Winter closes nearly all campgrounds. Snow accumulates from December through March, and Route 132 stays open, but inland gravel roads to backcountry sites are unmaintained or closed.

Expect small, locally owned campgrounds rather than large resort parks. Site mixes typically include some pitches with three services, some with two, some with one, and a wild or tenting section. Camping Le Moulin Rouge, for example, lists roughly 80 sites with most fully serviced, a dump station, and pet-friendly policies, which is representative of the area. Cell coverage along Route 132 is generally reliable but can be patchy on side roads. Grocery stores, fuel, and SAQ outlets are available in New Carlisle, Paspébiac, and Bonaventure. Mosquitoes and black flies are most aggressive from late May into early July. Bay water stays cool even in August. Roads are paved along the coast, but routes inland to Parc national de la Gaspésie include long gravel stretches. Most signage and service is in French, with English commonly spoken in New Carlisle itself.
