Campgrounds and RV parks near Bay, AR

Fishing anchors most trips. Lake Poinsett State Park sits on a 640-acre reservoir with bass, crappie, bream, and catfish, and rents boats and kayaks from its on-site marina. Lake Frierson State Park covers 335 acres and adds saugeye to the mix, with a barrier-free fishing pier, launch ramp, and pedal-boat rentals. Crowley's Ridge State Park offers two lakes with distinct roles: 31-acre Walcott Lake for fishing under electric-motor-only rules, and 3.5-acre spring-fed Lake Ponder for swimming, with a sandy beach and volleyball court. All three parks maintain hiking trails through oak-hickory forest, playgrounds, and picnic pavilions. Year-round interpretive programs, kayak tours, and guided hikes run at Lake Poinsett, and Crowley's Ridge preserves original 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps stone-and-log structures worth a walk-through.

Peak camping season in northeast Arkansas runs March through November, matching the visitor-center peak hours posted at the state parks. Spring brings dogwood bloom and the region's heaviest rainfall, with May typically the wettest month. Thunderstorms and occasional severe weather are common from March into June, so RV renters should track forecasts and know where storm shelters or sturdy buildings sit within each park. Summer runs hot and humid, with average highs near 90 degrees Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Swimming at Crowley's Ridge and lake fishing are the main draws, and mosquitoes can be persistent near the water. Fall is the standout window. Cooler air, lower rainfall, and hardwood color across Crowley's Ridge make September through early November the most comfortable stretch for RV travel. Winter camping remains possible: state park campgrounds stay open year-round, but bathhouse showers at some parks close in colder months and visitor-center hours drop to weekdays from December through February.

Sites at the nearby state parks are gravel or paved, generally level, and shaded by mature hardwoods. Lake Poinsett has 29 sites (26 with water and electric, three tent) and can fit rigs up to about 45 feet, though the single-lane campground road makes maneuvering tight when both sides are occupied. Crowley's Ridge has 26 sites including 18 Class B RV sites, with paved pads and some pull-throughs. Lake Frierson is the smallest, with seven sites and no showers or dump station on site, best suited to self-contained rigs or short stays; the nearest showers and dump station sit about six miles away at Crowley's Ridge. Cell coverage is inconsistent across all three parks. Expect clean bathhouses, friendly staff, and quiet nights. Bring bug spray in warmer months and confirm site length against your rig before booking.
