Campgrounds and RV parks near Harrisburg, AR

Fishing is the main draw at Lake Poinsett State Park. The lake holds bass, bream, catfish, and crappie in its shallow waters. A boat launch ramp, boat and kayak rentals, and a bait shop are on-site, and the day-use area includes picnic tables, a heated and cooled pavilion, a playground, and an open field for ball games. Lake Frierson State Park is a similar small-lake fishing park north of Jonesboro. For hiking, biking, and horseback riding, Village Creek State Park is the anchor. The park has 33 miles of multi-use trails, an equestrian campground with stable facilities, and a walkable segment of the Trail of Tears. It also includes a 27-hole public golf course and two lakes with swim beaches. Crowley's Ridge State Park adds interpretive programs and CCC-era structures for a shorter day trip.

Peak season across the Crowley's Ridge parks runs from March to November, when the visitor centers keep full hours and the full slate of activities is available. Spring is the strongest fishing window, with crappie, catfish, bream, and bass biting before the summer crowds arrive. Late spring can also bring severe thunderstorms and tornado watches typical of the Mid-South. Summer is hot and humid, and shaded sites are the first to go. Programming ramps up in the warm months, with fishing derbies, guided kayak and canoe tours, birding, and wildlife excursions on the calendar. Weekends at Village Creek fill early, particularly in the equestrian camp and near Lake Dunn. Fall is the most comfortable stretch for RV travel, with cooler nights and color across the ridge. Winters are quieter, and the Lake Poinsett visitor center runs reduced hours from December through February. Campgrounds and picnic areas at Village Creek stay open all year, but restrooms are only open March through December.

Lake Poinsett is small and easy to navigate. Facilities include 29 campsites: 12 Class A, 14 Class B, and three tent sites. Class A sites have water and 50-amp electric, while Class B sites have water and 30-amp electric. A pavilion with restrooms sits near the campground, and interpretive programs run year-round. Village Creek is larger and more amenity-heavy. The park has 96 campsites for tent, trailer, RV, and equestrian camping, all with water and electric hookups, plus ten modern cabins. Camp Area A has 41 sites with drinking water, restrooms, showers, a playground, and a dump station; Camp Area B and the Equestrian Camp offer similar services, and each site has a table, fire ring, and grill. The Equestrian Camp adds horse stalls and wash bays. Cell coverage is generally usable across the ridge but can drop in wooded loops.
