Campgrounds near Jonesboro
Jonesboro sits in northeast Arkansas on Crowley's Ridge, a narrow band of wooded hills rising above the Mississippi Delta flatlands. The area gives RV travelers a mix of small state park campgrounds, private RV parks, and easy access to lakes stocked for year-round fishing.
Close-in options include Lucky Camper RV Park and The Ranch RV Park, both practical bases with hookups for travelers stopping in town or working through the region. For a park setting, Lake Frierson State Park sits on the shores of 335-acre Lake Frierson in Greene County, about 10 miles north of Jonesboro on Highway 141, and Crowley's Ridge State Park lies about 15 miles north near Walcott.
Further south, Lake Poinsett State Park offers additional lakeside camping in Poinsett County. Together these parks put fishing piers, boat ramps, and hiking trails within an easy drive of the city, while the private parks handle full hookups and longer stays.
Things to do near Jonesboro
Fishing drives much of the outdoor calendar. Lake Frierson holds year-round bream, catfish, crappie, and bass, and the park has a launch ramp with boat and kayak rentals, plus trails and shoreline access for wildlife viewing. Lake Poinsett State Park offers a similar lake-based setup, with fishing and paddling as the main draws.
Crowley's Ridge State Park adds hiking through hardwood forest, a spring-fed swimming lake, boat rentals on 31-acre Walcott Lake, and Civilian Conservation Corps-era structures worth a walk-through. In town, Craighead Forest Park has additional trails and a lake loop, and the Forrest L. Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center covers the region's unusual geology and ecology with indoor exhibits that work well on hot or rainy afternoons.

Spring is the strongest window. Dogwoods and redbuds bloom across Crowley's Ridge, and the trails around Lake Frierson are considered best in spring when the dogwoods are blooming. Fishing picks up as water warms, and daytime temperatures stay comfortable for hiking before humidity builds.
Summer brings heat, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms. Lakeside sites with shade are the priority, and shoulder-of-day activity works better than midday hikes. Weekends fill fastest at the state parks, so booking well ahead matters from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Fall cools through October and November, with hardwood color on the ridge and fewer bugs. Winter camping is possible but limited: campgrounds stay open year-round, but restrooms at Lake Frierson are only open March through November, so cold-weather visitors should confirm facility status before arrival.
How to book
Arkansas State Parks, which operate Lake Frierson, Crowley's Ridge, and Lake Poinsett, take reservations online through arkansasstateparks.com or by phone with the individual park office. Sites can be booked up to 12 months in advance, and popular weekends around spring bloom, summer holidays, and fall color go early. Weekend stays require a two-night minimum, and three-day holiday weekends require three nights.
Private parks such as Lucky Camper RV Park and The Ranch RV Park are booked directly with the operator by phone or website. These often offer full hookups and monthly options that the state parks do not.
Check hookup class before booking. The Lake Frierson campground has seven campsites, five Class B and two Class D, with no showers or dump station on site, so travelers needing full services should plan accordingly or choose a private park.
What to expect
Expect small, quiet state park campgrounds rather than resort-style destinations. Lake Frierson has just seven sites near the boat ramp, and Crowley's Ridge State Park has 26 sites, of which 18 are Class B with water and electric. Sites tend to be wooded, level enough for most rigs, and close to the water.
Cell service is generally usable near Jonesboro and along the main highways but can thin out inside the parks. Grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are easy to handle in Jonesboro before heading to a site.
Wildlife on Crowley's Ridge includes deer, wild turkey, and a strong bird population in the oak-hickory forest. Standard precautions apply: secure food, watch for ticks and chiggers in warm months, and expect summer thunderstorms that can move through quickly.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Jonesboro, AR
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Jonesboro, AR?
RV rental in Jonesboro is one of the most affordable ways to explore Northeast Arkansas. Travel trailers typically run around $120 per night, while motorhomes average about $200 per night, with many hosts offering 10 to 20 percent discounts on weekly or monthly bookings. Add-ons like generators, camping chairs, or linens are usually $5 to $25 each. Pro tip: if you want the cheapest RV rental Jonesboro has to offer, book a travel trailer with delivery to Craighead Forest Park midweek in April or October. You'll dodge the summer humidity surge and snag better nightly rates than during ASU football weekends.
jonesboroar.gov/199/CampingDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Jonesboro?
Good news: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Jonesboro for nearly every rig on the RVezy platform. Arkansas does not issue a separate non-commercial RV license, and Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and most travel trailers and fifth wheels are well under the 26,000 pound weight threshold. RVezy also requires approved drivers to be 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the booking flow. Visiting from another country? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're cleared to roll out of Jonesboro toward Crowley's Ridge or Memphis.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental in Jonesboro covered if something happens on the trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Jonesboro booked on RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 63 with real peace of mind. During checkout you'll choose your protection level from several tiers, and that coverage handles most physical damage to the RV during your trip. Coverage is provided through RVezy's protection plans rather than your personal auto policy, giving substantial financial protection if a gravel chip on I-555 cracks a windshield. Pro tip: pick your protection tier based on your comfort with deductibles, then save the RVezy support number to your phone before pickup.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Jonesboro RV rental?
Booking is low risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and every reservation includes a grace period where you can cancel for a full refund right after booking. Beyond that grace window, your refund depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. Because hosts don't control cancellations, you get the same fair, consistent process across every listing, and if a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or helps rebook. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best RVs around Jonesboro, then breathe easy knowing the policy has your back if life shifts.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Jonesboro options are easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) right in their listings, often with a small pet cleaning fee. Once you're on the road, your pup will love Craighead Forest Park, which has a 60-acre lake and miles of leashed trails minutes from downtown, plus Lake Frierson State Park up Highway 141 where dogs are welcome at the campground and shoreline. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your dog's size and breed, and pack a tie-out and water bowl for hot Delta afternoons.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/lake-frierson-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway in Jonesboro?
Yes, RV delivery Jonesboro is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-time renters. Many hosts will tow or drive the RV right to Craighead Forest Park, Lake Frierson State Park, Lake Charles State Park, or even your driveway in Jonesboro or Paragould, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees are set by the host and usually depend on mileage from their home base. Pro tip: filter for Delivery on RVezy, then ask your host about a stocked setup (linens, kitchen kit, outdoor chairs) so you can show up, unlock the door, and start your trip.
jonesboroar.gov/199/CampingHow many miles do I get with my Jonesboro RV rental, and where can I drive it?
Most Jonesboro hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day), and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer road trips, all visible right on the listing. From Jonesboro you're perfectly positioned: Memphis sits about 70 miles east on Highway 63 and I-555, Little Rock is roughly 130 miles southwest on Highway 67, and the Ozark National Forest near Mountain View is about 150 miles west. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state RV road trip from Jonesboro, message the host before booking so they can quote an unlimited-mileage upgrade. It often costs less than paying per overage mile.

arkansasstateparks.com/parks/crowleys-ridge-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Jonesboro?
The sweet spot for a Jonesboro RV trip is mid-April through May and mid-September through October, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s and low 80s and humidity drops off. July and August get hot and muggy, with highs around 90 degrees Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms typical of Arkansas's humid subtropical climate. Winters are mild (January highs near 46 degrees), so cold-weather RVing is doable if you pick a rig with a furnace. Pro tip: time your trip with Jonesboro's BBQ Fest in early May or ASU Red Wolves home games in the fall for an unbeatable local-flavor weekend.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Jonesboro?
You're going to do great, and first time renting an RV in Jonesboro is easier than most people expect. Jonesboro itself is forgiving for beginners: the streets are wide, traffic is light compared to Memphis or Little Rock, and Highway 63 is a flat, well-marked four-lane out of town. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer, take a 10 minute practice loop around Craighead Forest Park before heading out, and you'll feel like a pro by the campfire.
jonesboroar.gov/What happens if I break down or have trouble on the road?
You're never on your own. Every Jonesboro RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 49, a dead battery at Lake Frierson, or a lockout in a Walmart lot is just a phone call away. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after every trip if you need help reaching your host or sorting out an issue. Pro tip: as soon as you book, save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup so you can share it quickly if you need service.

Budgeting fuel for a Jonesboro RV trip is straightforward. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get around 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A motorhomes typically run 6 to 10 mpg, while a midsize SUV towing a travel trailer lands around 10 to 14 mpg. Arkansas gas prices generally sit below the national average, and Jonesboro has plenty of high-flow diesel and gas pumps at Murphy USA, Love's, and Pilot off Highway 63. Pro tip: fill up in Jonesboro before heading into the Ozarks (stations get sparser past Mountain View) and use GasBuddy to spot the cheapest stops along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Jonesboro?
For the best campgrounds near Jonesboro, aim to book 6 to 8 weeks ahead for summer weekends and holidays, especially Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Arkansas State Parks (Lake Frierson, Crowley's Ridge, Lake Charles, Lake Poinsett) use the official Arkansas State Parks reservation system and open bookings up to 13 months in advance. Craighead Forest Park's city-run campground is first-come, first-served plus phone reservations through Jonesboro Parks and Recreation. Pro tip: midweek stays are easier to grab even in peak season, and shoulder months like April and October often have weekend availability just a week or two out, perfect for a spontaneous family RV trip Jonesboro getaway.
arkansasstateparks.com/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Jonesboro for an RV?
Jonesboro is one of the easier Arkansas cities to drive an RV through. The terrain is flat Delta country east of Crowley's Ridge, so you'll skip the steep grades you'd hit in the Ozarks. Highway 63, Highway 49, and I-555 are wide and well-maintained, and downtown Jonesboro has standard urban clearances (no surprise low bridges on the main RV routes). Spring brings thunderstorms and the occasional tornado watch, so check the National Weather Service Little Rock forecast each morning. Pro tip: avoid Caraway Road and Highland Drive around 5 p.m. on ASU game days, and use the loop via Highway 49 Bypass to skirt downtown when you're heading to Lake Frierson or Crowley's Ridge.
weather.gov/lzk/What amenities do campgrounds near Jonesboro typically offer?
Most campgrounds near Jonesboro come well-equipped for a comfortable RV stay. Craighead Forest Park's 36 sites all have water and 30 or 50 amp electric, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, with a dump station on-site. Lake Frierson State Park offers electric and water hookups but no sewer at the site (use the nearby dump station). Crowley's Ridge State Park and Lake Charles State Park add bathhouses, camp stores, swim areas, and boat ramps. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground since some Delta-region rural fills can be hard to find, and the Flying J off I-555 at exit 41 has a public dump and potable water if you need a quick stop on the way home.

Many also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, and outdoor speakers, and some hosts add a generator, Wi-Fi hotspot, or solar so you can boondock comfortably. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check the photos for bed configurations (queen, bunk, dinette convert), and message the host to confirm AC tonnage if you're traveling in July or August humidity.

arkansas.com/things-to-do/outdoors-nature/rv-campingHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Jonesboro RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy with a credit card at booking, which covers the nightly rental, any add-ons you selected, the protection plan, and applicable taxes (no cash changes hands with the host). A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before the trip and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with no issues. Pro tip: at pickup, do a quick walkaround with your host and take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior, exterior, tires, and existing scratches. It's the easiest way to keep your full deposit and start your motorhome rental in Jonesboro on the right foot.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park my RV overnight near Jonesboro outside of campgrounds?
You've got a few solid options for where to park an RV in Jonesboro between campground nights. The Jonesboro Walmart Supercenter on East Highland Drive has historically allowed one-night RV parking with manager permission (call ahead to confirm, since policies change by store). The Flying J Travel Center off I-555 welcomes RVs overnight with a dump station and potable water on-site, and Cracker Barrel locations along Highway 63 typically allow a single courtesy night. Jonesboro city ordinances prohibit street parking of RVs in residential zones overnight. Pro tip: keep slides in, awning rolled up, and leave early; that's how Wallydocking and travel-stop overnighting stays available for the next campervan rental Jonesboro traveler.
