Campgrounds and RV parks near Weiner, AR

Fishing drives most trips in this region. Lake Poinsett State Park offers bass, crappie, bream, and catfish on its 640-acre reservoir, with boat rentals, a launch ramp, and a bait shop on site. Lake Frierson State Park adds year-round fishing on a 335-acre lake for bream, catfish, crappie, saugeye, and bass, with rental fishing boats and kayaks and a fishing pier for shore anglers. History travelers will find Jacksonport State Park worth the drive: it preserves a 19th-century river-port town at the confluence of the White and Black Rivers, with a restored 1872 courthouse museum and the half-mile Tunstall Riverwalk Trail along the White River. Short hiking trails, playgrounds, and interpretive programs round out family activities on rest days.

Peak season across the Arkansas state park system runs March through November, when visitor centers keep full daily hours and interpretive programs, boat rentals, and bathhouses are in full operation. Spring is the wettest stretch, with May typically the single wettest month in the Jonesboro area and April a close second. Storms can be heavy, and low-lying Delta sites near rivers should be checked for flooding after prolonged rain. Summer is hot and humid, with July highs averaging around 90°F and muggy nights near 70°F. Shade is limited at some sites, so awnings and air conditioning matter for RV campers. Fall brings the best combination of mild days, lower rainfall, and Crowley's Ridge foliage color, making September and October the most comfortable months. Winter is quieter: campgrounds at Lake Poinsett, Lake Frierson, and Jacksonport stay open year-round, but restrooms and visitor centers move to reduced off-peak hours from December through February.

Expect small, quiet parks rather than resort-style campgrounds. Lake Poinsett State Park has 29 campsites, with 26 offering water and electric hookups (a mix of 30-amp and 50-amp), metal picnic tables, fire rings, and a dump station near the visitor center; there are no individual sewer connections, and the park accommodates RVs up to about 45 feet. Lake Frierson is smaller, with seven sites (five with water and electric, two tent-only), a dump station, and restrooms that operate during peak season. Jacksonport State Park has 20 Class A sites with 50-amp electric and water hookups, a dump station, bathhouse, playground, and boat ramp, and accepts RVs up to roughly 50 feet. Bring insect repellent for river and lakeside sites in warm months, and expect flat, gravel pads that are straightforward for larger rigs to navigate.
