Campgrounds and RV parks near Delleker, CA

Fishing is a major draw. Lake Davis sits just minutes north of Delleker and is one of the premier trout fisheries in Northern California. Frenchman Lake, east of town past Chilcoot, has 21 miles of shoreline and allows boating, waterskiing, jet skiing, and swimming, with a boat ramp near the Frenchman Campground. Hikers can pick up the Pacific Crest Trail and the Lakes Basin trail network from Plumas-Eureka State Park, which also preserves a Gold Rush mining complex with summer blacksmithing demonstrations conducted by docents and park staff. Shorter outings include the Little Last Chance Canyon scenic area near Frenchman Lake, the Jamison Lake trail from Plumas-Eureka, and Black Mountain Lookout on the eastern edge of the Beckwourth Ranger District for long views toward Honey Lake.

Delleker sits near 4,900 feet, and most public campgrounds in the surrounding Plumas National Forest run from late spring through October, with the higher-elevation Plumas-Eureka State Park campground typically operating May through October. Many forest roads stay snow-covered through the winter and into early spring. Summer is the prime RV window. July and August bring the busiest weekends, warm dry days, and cool nights, with daytime highs in Portola averaging in the mid-80s Fahrenheit and triple-digit days occurring only about once every two years. Wildflower viewing, swimming, and trout fishing peak from late June through August. The autumn shoulder season is quieter and pleasant, though the first snowfall can arrive in October and most public campgrounds close after it. Winter recreation continues at lower volumes. The Frenchman Lake area remains a destination for ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing, though access roads typically close during heavy snow. Some private RV parks in and around Portola operate year-round; confirm winter access before towing in.

Expect a high-elevation mountain environment on the eastern slope of the Sierra: pine forest, granite outcrops, dry summer air, cold nights even in July, and large diurnal temperature swings. Bear-resistant food storage is required at Plumas-Eureka State Park, where each site has a food storage locker, and similar precautions apply throughout the surrounding national forest. Black bears are present but encounters are manageable with proper food handling. Cell coverage is unreliable across much of Plumas County and the surrounding national forest, so download offline maps before leaving paved highways. Private RV parks near Portola typically provide full hookups and dump access, while forest sites generally have vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and limited or no potable water. Fire restrictions are common from late spring through fall, and a valid California campfire permit is required for stoves and fires outside developed campgrounds.
