Campgrounds and RV parks near Ducor, CA

At Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park, visitors tour restored early 20th-century buildings including a schoolhouse, church, hotel, and library, and the day-use area is a good spot for picnicking and wildlife viewing. The visitor center keeps regular daytime hours and houses interactive exhibits, while the surrounding grounds include an agricultural demonstration area with periodic educational programs. Northeast of Ducor, Lake Success offers boating, fishing, and shoreline recreation. Farther east, the Tule River canyon and the Western Divide Highway open access to giant sequoia groves and high-country meadows above Camp Nelson. Day trips from a base at Lemon Cove Village reach Sequoia National Park's Foothills and Giant Forest areas, Kaweah Lake for swimming and paddling, and the Kaweah River for rafting in spring and early summer.

The Ducor area has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate. Valley summers from June through early September run consistently hot and dry, with afternoon highs frequently in the mid to upper 90s Fahrenheit and very little rain. Valley campgrounds including Colonel Allensworth, Quail Valley RV Park, and Royal Palms stay open year-round, but shade and electric hookups for air conditioning matter most in midsummer. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows in the valley. March through May brings wildflowers across the grasslands and foothills, and Allensworth typically hosts special events that draw heavier weekend use. October and November cool quickly and rainfall begins to return. Winter is mild in the valley but cold and wet in the mountains. Tule fog is common on winter mornings across the San Joaquin Valley and can affect driving. Foothill parks such as Lemon Cove Village remain accessible all year, while higher elevations around Camp Nelson can see snow and seasonal road closures on the Western Divide Highway, so itineraries that combine valley camping with Sequoia day trips are easier from late spring through mid-fall.

The valley sites near Ducor are flat, sunny, and open, with limited natural shade and reliable cell coverage in most spots. Colonel Allensworth is quiet and sparsely used outside of event weekends, with paved interior roads, back-in sites that accommodate larger rigs, flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, and multiple water spigots throughout the campground. Sites include picnic tables and fire rings, but RV hookups are not provided, so arriving with full fresh water and battery capacity is important. Supplies are not sold inside the park, so groceries and fuel should be loaded in Earlimart, Delano, or Porterville. Private parks such as Lemon Cove Village trend toward closer-spaced pull-throughs, a pool, laundry, a small store, and Wi-Fi near the office, oriented around families using the park as a Sequoia base camp. Mountain sites at Camp Nelson are more rustic, cooler, and shaded by pines, with tighter access roads that favor moderate-length rigs over the largest fifth-wheels and Class A coaches.
