Campgrounds and RV parks near San Martin, CA

Hiking is the dominant draw in the surrounding parks. Henry W. Coe offers over 250 miles of trails and old ranch roads across a backcountry of oak woodland, grassland, and creek canyons. Uvas Canyon County Park is known for its short Waterfall Loop along Swanson Creek, best in winter and early spring when flows are high. Mt. Madonna County Park sits in a redwood forest with trails offering views toward the Santa Clara Valley on one side and Monterey Bay on the other. Coyote Lake offers boating and fishing close to town, and Anderson Lake is also nearby. Family-oriented stops include Gilroy Gardens roughly ten miles south, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium is about an hour west for a day trip from the RV.

Spring and fall are the most temperate times to visit, with the shoulder seasons generally considered ideal for exploration. Wildflowers bloom across Henry Coe in March and April, and trail conditions in the surrounding county parks are at their best. Summer brings long, warm, arid days with mostly clear skies and very little rain. Hot, dry summers bring highs above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with some cooling at night in the inland canyons, which makes the strenuous trails at Henry Coe noticeably harder. Campfire rules tighten during fire season: at Coe Ranch, campfires are allowed in the fire rings only during non-fire season, with no campfires during summer months. Mt. Madonna sits above the fog line most of the year and runs cooler than the valley floor, so it is a useful summer alternative. Winters are wet and cool, with most of the annual precipitation falling between November and March. Waterfalls at Uvas Canyon peak during this period, but storms can close trails and access roads.

Private RV parks near San Martin generally provide level sites with hookups, restrooms, and showers, and are set up for easy access from US-101. Expect a standard check-in at the office and posted quiet hours. Public campgrounds run more rustic. Coe Ranch Campground has 20 drive-in campsites located on top of an open ridge with views across the canyons of the backcountry. Camping there is primitive, and there are no showers or RV hook-ups. In the county system, RVs are permitted at Mt. Madonna, Coyote Lake, and Sanborn Parks. RV height maximum is 11 feet. RV length maximum is 30 feet. Quiet hours are from 10:00pm-7:00am. Radios, playing of instruments and other loud noises are not permitted during quiet hours. Generators must abide by quiet hours.
