Campgrounds and RV parks near East Quincy, CA

Bucks Lake is the main draw, with forested shoreline, sandy coves, and the adjacent Bucks Lake Wilderness for hiking. The lake supports trout and kokanee salmon fishing, and a marina at the lake rents boats and offers bait, tackle, and groceries. The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the wilderness just west of the lake, climbing past Spanish Peak. Closer to East Quincy, the Feather River runs along Highway 70 with day-use spots, swimming holes, and trout fishing. Mountain bikers and OHV riders use a network of dirt trails in the Mount Hough area, although some routes near Silver Lake were impacted by the 2021 Dixie Fire. Winter visitors come for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing once roads to higher elevations close to passenger traffic.

Peak camping season runs from late spring through early fall. Most Plumas National Forest fee campgrounds open in April and close in October, while higher-elevation sites around Bucks Lake typically open in mid to late May once snow clears and access roads reopen. July and August bring the warmest, driest weather and the busiest weekends, particularly around the Fourth of July and the Plumas-Sierra County Fair held in Quincy. Spring camping can be wet and cold at elevation, and access roads off Bucks Lake Road may remain snowed in into May. Fall offers cooler nights, fewer crowds, and good fishing, but shoulder-season storms move in quickly. Wildfire is a real consideration in late summer and early fall: campfire permits are required throughout the Plumas National Forest, and temporary restrictions or closures are common when fire danger climbs. Winter in town is cold and snowy, with the wettest month typically January, and most lake-area campgrounds are closed while chains may be required on mountain roads.

Expect a rural mountain experience rather than a resort setting. East Quincy and Quincy together offer full services: grocery stores, fuel, propane, hardware, urgent care, and a small county airport. Cell service is generally reliable in town but drops quickly on the way to Bucks Lake and through the Feather River canyon, and is noted as unreliable at lakeside Forest Service campgrounds. Forest Service sites are rustic, with vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and food storage lockers; piped water is not guaranteed and many sites have no hookups or dump stations. RV size is a real constraint at Forest Service sites, so larger rigs are better suited to in-town parks or the developed resorts at Bucks Lake. Bears are active in the area, and food storage rules are enforced.
