Campgrounds and RV parks near Elfin Forest, CA

Elfin Forest is an unincorporated community in San Diego County tucked between Escondido, Carlsbad, and Encinitas, anchored by the 784-acre Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve on Harmony Grove Road. The Reserve itself is day-use only: camping inside the preserve is not permitted, so RV travelers base out of nearby commercial and state-run parks within a short drive of the trailhead. Inland options sit closest to the Reserve. Escondido RV Resort offers full-hookup sites in the Escondido valley and works well for travelers focused on hiking, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and Temecula wine country day trips. Olive Avenue RV Resort gives another inland anchor on the way toward Vista and San Marcos. For coastal access, Surf and Turf RV Park and Del Mar Fairgrounds sit beside the Del Mar racetrack and fairgrounds about fifteen miles west, blocks from the beach. South Carlsbad State Beach Campground extends along the bluffs above the Pacific north of Encinitas, the standout choice for ocean-view nights.

South Carlsbad State Beach Campground books through ReserveCalifornia on a rolling six-month window. Hookup sites are limited and go fast; the maximum RV length is 35 feet. Consecutive stay limits cap visits at 7 nights from March through November and 14 nights from December through February, with a required 48-hour gap and an annual cap of 30 nights per license plate. Surf and Turf RV Park and Del Mar Fairgrounds RV Park take reservations up to two months in advance with a 21-day annual maximum; both close to the public from late May through mid-September during the San Diego County Fair and Del Mar Thoroughbred Club race meet. Escondido RV Resort and Olive Avenue RV Resort book directly through the parks.
