RV camping near Fuller Acres, California
Fuller Acres is a small census-designated place in Kern County, located 7.25 miles southeast of downtown Bakersfield at an elevation of 420 feet. For RV travelers, the community functions as a quiet base on the southeast edge of the Bakersfield metro, with quick access to State Route 58, Highway 99, and State Route 178 toward the Kern River canyon.
Full-hookup parks cluster around Bakersfield rather than inside Fuller Acres itself. Bakersfield Travel Park, Orange Grove RV Park and Resort, Shady Haven RV Park, Bakersfield KOA, and Bakersfield RV Resort are the closest options and serve as practical overnight stops for travelers moving along the I-5 and Highway 99 corridors. From these parks, drivers can reach Sequoia National Forest, Lake Isabella, and the Kern River within roughly an hour, making Fuller Acres a useful staging point for both city stays and Sierra Nevada side trips.
Things to do near Fuller Acres
Most outdoor activity sits east of town in the Kern River canyon and Sequoia National Forest. From Bakersfield, Highway 178 leads east through the Kern River Canyon toward the town of Lake Isabella, a reservoir popular among boaters, anglers, and rafters. White water rafting is a very popular activity on the Kern River, and local rafting outfitters provide half-day to multi-day trips along the Kern River.
Closer in, families can visit the Kern County Museum, the California Living Museum zoo and botanical garden, and the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area. Day trips north on Highway 99 reach the southern entrances to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, while westbound routes lead to the Carrizo Plain National Monument.

December - February
61° / 41°F 30 mmMild but foggy; tule fog cuts highway visibility
The climate of Bakersfield is arid subtropical, with mild, relatively rainy winters and very hot, sunny summers. The best time of year to visit Bakersfield is March to May mid and October to November mid, when valley daytime highs are comfortable and Kern River flows are still strong from snowmelt.
Summer is reliable for hookups but punishing in the open valley, with afternoon highs routinely in the upper 90s and occasional triple digits. RVs need shade, working air conditioning, and electric sites; tent camping in the lowlands is not recommended. The Kern River flows higher in late spring and early summer as water is released from Lake Isabella, which sets up the prime rafting window.
Winters are mild but bring two specific issues for travelers: fog can form in winter, cutting visibility on Highway 99 and I-5, and seasonal closures in the mountains. Sherman Pass Road and the Western Divide Highway close during winter for snow, and many higher Sequoia National Forest campgrounds also close from late fall into spring.

We used Matt’s RV for three nights outside of Sequoia National Park. Matt set it up before we arrived with mats laid out (a mat lined with twinkle lights) and AC on, communicating with us the entire day and trip for whatever we needed. He was extremely pleasant to interact with and we so enjoyed the cozy trailer! Felt new and clean (modern) and the bed was comfier than our own. Also - blackout blinds which was PERFECT for our little one taking naps throughout the day. The heat was brutal at our location and the AC was so helpful. Fresh towels and sheets were a plus as well. Very homey overall and felt so supported. We had a blast with our one year old exploring the campsite and national park and would rent from him again if the occasion were to arise!

Matthew’s trailer was pristine and worked great for our family with 2 small kids. Communicating with Matthew was easy and fast.

How to book campgrounds near Fuller Acres
Private RV parks in the Bakersfield area, including Bakersfield Travel Park, Orange Grove RV Park and Resort, Shady Haven RV Park, Bakersfield KOA, and Bakersfield RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. These parks offer full hookups and are the most reliable option for big rigs year-round.
For public land east of Fuller Acres, the reservation system is Recreation.gov. Sequoia National Forest campgrounds in the Kern River Ranger District are operated under a concessionaire program, and reservations can be made by calling Recreation.gov at 1-877-444-6777 or online at recreation.gov. Reservations typically open up to 6 months in advance for U.S. Forest Service sites. A portion of sites in the district remain first-come, first-served, which is useful for last-minute trips.
What to expect at campgrounds near Fuller Acres
Expect a clear split between two camping styles. Private parks in and around Bakersfield offer paved, gravel, or hard-packed sites with full hookups, laundry, and pools, geared toward overnighters and snowbirds. Shade is limited, so an awning and reflective windshield cover help in summer.
Kern River and Sequoia National Forest campgrounds are more rustic. Limestone Campground sits in an area dotted with oak and gray pine along the Upper Kern River at an elevation of 3,500 feet, with 19 paved sites and vault toilets. At Hobo Campground, vehicles and their attachments cannot exceed 22 feet in length, and trailers are restricted to utility and small teardrops due to length restriction. A California campfire permit is required and can be obtained online, and no glass is allowed on the Sequoia National Forest. Cell service drops quickly once you head up Highway 178.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Fuller Acres, CA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Fuller Acres, CA?
RV rental in Fuller Acres is one of the more affordable ways to explore Kern County. Travel trailers commonly start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes typically run $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs generally range from $250 to $400 per night before fees and add-ons. Because Fuller Acres sits just southeast of Bakersfield, prices often run lower than coastal California markets like Los Angeles or San Diego. For a cheap RV rental Fuller Acres travelers love, book on weekdays, avoid summer holiday weekends, and look at travel trailers if you already have a tow vehicle. Pro tip: book three to four weeks ahead in spring and fall when Sequoia and Kern River trips peak.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fuller%20Acres%2C%20CaliforniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Fuller Acres?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Fuller Acres for any motorhome or trailer on the RVezy platform. California does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for non-commercial RVs under 40 feet, and rigs listed on RVezy fall within that limit. You'll need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy platform when you book, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from another country? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license works. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the process is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Fuller Acres RV rental?
Every RV rental in Fuller Acres booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 58 or head up to Lake Isabella with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose the coverage tier that fits your comfort level at checkout, not the host. Coverage is consistent across listings because RVezy, not the individual owner, sets the terms. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully at booking, especially if you're planning the winding drive up to Sequoia National Park, where extra peace of mind goes a long way.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Fuller Acres RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy applies a consistent cancellation policy across every listing, including a full money-back grace period right after you book, so you're not locked in the moment you click confirm. Refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip start date you cancel, and the policy is managed by RVezy rather than the individual host, so you get the same fair process whether you rent a campervan or a Class A. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy will help with a refund or rebooking credit. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rig, then review the full cancellation policy on the RVezy Help Center before your trip window narrows.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Fuller Acres RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Fuller Acres options are plentiful. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search, and you'll see rigs whose owners welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) with open arms. Kern County is genuinely dog-friendly: Hart Park along the Kern River allows leashed pets, Lake Ming has shaded picnic areas, and Kern River County Campground welcomes pets on a leash. Up in Kernville, Rivernook Campground and Kern River's Edge are both pet-friendly with shady runs. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and breed notes, then pack a tie-out, water bowl, and proof of vaccinations for a smooth campground check-in.
kerncounty.com/government/parks/facilities/campgroundsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Fuller Acres?
Yes, RV delivery in Fuller Acres is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig to your driveway, a Kern County campground like Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area, or directly to Lake Isabella, then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Filter for Delivery on the search page to see who offers it and their delivery radius. Most hosts charge a per-mile fee beyond a free zone, often the first 20 to 30 miles. Pro tip: delivery is gold for festivals and lake weekends because you skip the towing learning curve entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fuller%20Acres%2C%20CaliforniaHow far can I drive on a Fuller Acres RV trip, and what about mileage limits?
You've got serious range from Fuller Acres. Most hosts offer a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with overage at roughly $0.35 to $0.50 per mile, and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer adventures. From your pickup point you're about 20 minutes to downtown Bakersfield, 45 miles to Lake Isabella, 90 miles to Tehachapi wind country, and roughly 115 miles (about 3 hours) up CA-198 to Sequoia National Park. Pro tip: if you're plotting a Yosemite or Death Valley loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings on the search page, and message the host with your route so they can recommend the most fuel-efficient option.
dot.ca.gov/programs/traffic-operations/road-informationWhere should I stay in my RV near Fuller Acres?
You're spoiled for choice on RV camping Fuller Acres trips. Within an hour you can pick from Kern River Campground (dry camping right on the river, run by Kern County Parks), Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area (lakefront sites with hookups and trailer rentals), Bakersfield River Run RV Park (full hookups, pull-throughs), Orange Grove RV Park in Bakersfield (a local classic surrounded by citrus trees), and up in Kernville, Rivernook Campground and Kern River's Edge for Wild and Scenic riverside camping. Overnight street parking is generally not allowed in Kern County residential areas, so stick to designated campgrounds. Pro tip: reserve Kern County Parks sites through their official reservation portal, and book Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends two months out.
kerncounty.com/government/parks/reservationsWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Fuller Acres?
The sweet spots are March through May and October through mid-November, when daytime highs sit in the comfortable 70s to mid-80s and nights cool into the 50s, ideal for sleeping in an RV without blasting the AC. Summer (June to September) is genuinely hot, with Bakersfield-area highs averaging 95 to 99 degrees and frequent 100-plus days, so save summer for the higher elevations at Lake Isabella or Sequoia where it's 15 to 20 degrees cooler. Winters are mild (highs in the upper 50s) with occasional tule fog. Pro tip: April wildflowers in the Tehachapi foothills and October light over the Kern River are the local insider's favorite shoulder-season windows.
weather.gov/hnx/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting in Fuller Acres?
You'll be fine, and you're not alone. First time renting an RV is the most common scenario on RVezy, and every host provides an in-person orientation at pickup walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the propane system, and dumping tanks. Local roads around Fuller Acres are flat, wide, and forgiving (Highway 58 and CA-99 are easy interstate-style highways), making it an ideal training ground before tackling mountain routes. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a delivered rig. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (under 25 feet), and do a practice loop in a quiet area like the agricultural roads east of town before heading to Kernville's twistier mountain road.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/What happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 58, a dead battery at Lake Isabella, or a lockout at a Kernville campground is one phone call away from help. You can also message your host directly through the app for quick advice on quirks specific to the rig, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip if anything bigger comes up. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup, save the roadside assistance number to your contacts, and note the nearest service exits along CA-99 and CA-178 before you depart.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Fuller Acres RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
You've got the entire western US to explore. Most hosts allow interstate travel, so an RV road trip from Fuller Acres can easily reach Nevada (Las Vegas is about 285 miles via I-15), Arizona, Oregon, and beyond, just confirm with the host before booking since some prefer specific regions. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection package and insurance do not extend across that border. Cross-border trips into Canada may be possible with prior host approval. Pro tip: message the host directly from the listing page with your full route, and ask about popular nearby loops like Highway 1 along the coast or the eastern Sierras up to Mammoth.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Realistic budgeting makes the trip more fun. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes return roughly 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A rigs land around 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect a 20 to 30 percent fuel-economy hit. California gas prices typically run $1 to $1.50 above the national average, and Bakersfield-area pumps are among the cheapest in the state, making Fuller Acres a smart place to fill up before heading to pricier mountain towns. Pro tip: top off at Costco on Rosedale Highway or the truck stops near Lamont before climbing CA-178 to Lake Isabella, where prices jump noticeably.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book campgrounds for my Fuller Acres RV trip?
For the best campgrounds near Fuller Acres, plan ahead but don't panic. Kern County Parks campgrounds (Kern River Campground and Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area) accept reservations through the official Kern County Parks portal and tend to book up 4 to 8 weeks ahead for summer weekends. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park campgrounds open six months out on Recreation.gov, and the popular Lodgepole and Dorst Creek sites can fill within hours. Private parks like Rivernook in Kernville and Orange Grove RV Park in Bakersfield typically have shorter lead times, two to three weeks for non-holiday weekends. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) often have same-week openings even in peak season, and nightly rates can be 10 to 20 percent lower.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Fuller Acres?
Driving here is mostly easygoing. The Central Valley around Fuller Acres is flat with wide roads, light rural traffic, and well-maintained highways like CA-58, CA-99, and CA-178. The two things to watch for: winter tule fog (dense morning fog from November to February, common on CA-99) and summer heat that can stress tires and cooling systems, so drive in the early morning when possible. The climb up CA-178 to Lake Isabella has steep grades and 25 mph hairpins past Kern Canyon, take it slow in low gear. California also caps any vehicle towing a trailer at 55 mph statewide. Pro tip: check Caltrans QuickMap before heading into the mountains for real-time closures and chain controls.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities should I expect at local campgrounds?
Expect solid options at every level. Full-hookup parks like Bakersfield River Run, Orange Grove RV Park, and Rivernook offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Kern County's Buena Vista has electric and water hookups plus a dump station, while Kern River Campground is dry camping only with vault toilets and potable water spigots. Most Sequoia National Forest campgrounds (Headquarters, Hospital Flat) provide picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water but no hookups. There's a dump station at Hart Park and several gas stations along CA-178. Pro tip: fill fresh water before leaving Bakersfield since mountain spigots are sometimes seasonal, and bring 25 to 50 feet of fresh-water hose plus a sewer hose with you.
fs.usda.gov/recmain/sequoia/recreationWhat features will my Fuller Acres RV rental come with?
Most motorhome rentals in Fuller Acres come ready-to-camp, with a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with toilet and shower, dinette that converts to sleeping space, roof AC, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include a TV, generator or solar setup, outdoor awning, and Bluetooth stereo. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer similar layouts, while Class B campervans are leaner but cover the essentials. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss inland, so plan to use your phone hotspot. Pro tip: each listing has a full amenities checklist on RVezy, scan it for must-haves like a backup camera, generator hours, or pet-friendly upholstery before clicking book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fuller%20Acres%2C%20CaliforniaWhat add-ons and options do hosts offer for pickup and dropoff?
Lots of flexibility here. Popular add-ons for your RV rental in Fuller Acres include linens and bedding ($25 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camping chairs and tables, generators, bike racks, propane top-off, and a final cleaning or dump-tank service ($75 to $150) that lets you return the RV without doing chores. Pickup is usually at the host's address, but many offer delivery for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, generally 100 to 150 free miles per day with extras around $0.35 to $0.50 each. Pro tip: bundle the cleaning, generator, and linen add-ons if you're road-tripping with kids, the small upfront cost saves hours at the end of your trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fuller%20Acres%2C%20CaliforniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, so your transaction is protected end-to-end. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup (typically a few hundred to around $1,500 depending on the rig) and released after the trip if the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walk-around at pickup with the host, snap timestamped photos inside and out, and return on time with the agreed fuel level and tanks dumped if that's part of the deal. Pro tip: review the listing's mileage, generator, and cleaning policies upfront so there are no surprise charges when the deposit is refunded.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Fuller Acres?
You're sitting at the gateway to some of California's best outdoor country. Top RV road trip from Fuller Acres ideas: Sequoia National Park (115 miles, about 3 hours via CA-99 and CA-198) to see General Sherman and Giant Forest; Lake Isabella and the Wild and Scenic Kern River (45 miles up CA-178) for rafting and lakeside camping; Tehachapi and the Loop train viewpoint (40 miles via CA-58); Pismo Beach on the Central Coast (150 miles via CA-166) for ocean dune camping; and Death Valley National Park (210 miles east) for jaw-dropping desert landscapes. Pro tip: combine Sequoia and Kings Canyon into a 4-day loop, returning via the scenic CA-245 backroad through the foothills for fewer crowds.
