Campgrounds and RV parks near Gerber, CA

The Sacramento River anchors most recreation in this stretch. At Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area, a broad sand and gravel beach and a boat ramp across the road give access for swimming, paddling, water sports, and fishing for salmon, steelhead, and shad depending on the season. The park's dense riparian preserve is a wintering area for bald eagles and a summer nest site for the yellow-billed cuckoo, with about a mile of hiking trails through native forest. In Red Bluff, the Tehama District Fairgrounds hosts rodeos and events through much of the year, including the long-running Red Bluff Round-Up. Day trips reach Lassen Volcanic National Park to the east, Lake Shasta to the north, and olive and wine tasting rooms around Corning. Anglers age 16 and older need a valid California fishing license.

The Sacramento Valley around Gerber has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. July averages near 96°F at nearby Red Bluff and August stays nearly as warm, so midsummer trips are best paired with river access and shaded sites. Smoke from regional wildfires can also affect air quality from mid-summer into early fall. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows, with mild temperatures, lower crowds, and active fishing on the Sacramento River. Wildflowers and green hills peak from March into May, while October brings cooler nights and fall color along the river corridor. Winter is the wet season, with December and January the rainiest months and frequent low fog in the valley. Snow is essentially absent at valley elevations, but state-park camping options are limited: Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area's campground typically closes for the off-season on September 30 and reopens April 1, while private RV parks in Red Bluff and Corning operate year-round.

Expect a working agricultural valley rather than a resort area. Sites at private parks like Red Bluff KOA Journey are paved and big-rig friendly with full hookups, laundry, showers, a pool, and a general store. Tehama District Fairgrounds offers utilitarian hookup sites that are most useful around events. Woodson Bridge State Recreation Area is more basic, with sites under oaks, drinking water, flush toilets, and coin-operated hot showers, and a 31-foot RV length limit. Cell coverage in the area is generally good. Summer afternoons routinely top 95°F, so air conditioning and shade matter. Wildfire risk drives strict campfire rules from late spring through fall, and bans on wood fires are common.
