Campgrounds and RV parks near Laguna Woods, CA

The coast is the main draw. Crystal Cove State Park preserves one of Orange County's largest stretches of open space and natural seashore, with 3.2 miles of beach, 2,400 acres of backcountry, and offshore underwater areas. Visitors swim, surf, snorkel, tidepool, mountain bike, and hike canyon trails on more than 15 miles of paths. Doheny State Beach is a well-known surf spot in Dana Point and draws an estimated one million visitors per year, with a visitor center and aquarium, the Doho Cafe, and sand volleyball courts at the north end. At Newport Dunes Resort, families use the lagoon beach, rent paddleboards and pedal boats, and launch into Newport Harbor. Orangeland RV Park sits near Angel Stadium and the Honda Center and is a common base for visits to Disneyland and greater Anaheim.

Southern Orange County is a year-round destination, but the camping calendar still has a clear rhythm. Summer, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, is peak season at every coastal campground. Beachfront sites at Doheny and San Clemente fill quickly when the booking window opens, and weekends sell out months ahead. Spring and fall are the sweet spot for RV travel: mild temperatures, lighter crowds midweek, and easier reservations. Coastal sites can still see May gray and June gloom fog along the beach, while inland air warms faster. Winter is the rainy season for the region, with December typically the wettest month around Laguna Woods. Pacific storms can briefly close low-lying day-use lots and soften bluff trails, but mild daytime temperatures still support coastal camping. A temporary closure of the Doheny State Beach campground is anticipated sometime between 2027 and 2029 for the Climate Resilience and Modernization Project, so check the park alerts page before booking far ahead.

Coastal sites are bluff-top or beach-adjacent, not deep-woods. Expect ocean views, sea breeze, and tight maneuvering. At Moro Campground in Crystal Cove State Park, hookup sites accommodate RVs up to 38 feet and tent sites are limited to 25 feet, with narrow access roads and back-in only configurations. Wood and charcoal fires are not permitted anywhere in the park: only compressed-gas barbecues and outdoor fireplaces are allowed, and a dump station is available near the entrance. Doheny is primarily a dry campground without RV hookups. Dogs are restricted on most beaches and backcountry trails. Quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and generators are typically limited to daytime hours at state beaches. Inland, Orangeland RV Park offers landscaped full hook-up sites among citrus trees, a heated pool, spa, playground, mini-golf, billiards, and shuffleboard. Cell service is reliable across the region, and grocery stores are within a few minutes of every campground listed.
