Campgrounds and RV parks near Loyalton, CA

The Sierra Valley is a recognized birding area, with sandhill cranes, willow flycatchers, and a wide range of meadow and riparian species during spring and summer migration. Trout fishing is a regional draw, with Smithneck Creek running through Loyalton and the Yuba River and Lakes Basin to the west holding rainbow, brook, and brown trout. At Webber Lake Campground North, watercraft are welcome under a 5 mph limit, a boat ramp and trailer parking are available, and an aquatic invasive species inspection is likely before launch. Hiking trails radiate from the lake into Lacey Meadows. Truckee, Donner Lake, and Donner Memorial State Park are within easy reach for day trips, and the Pacific Crest Trail crosses the area near Yuba Pass.

Loyalton sits above 4,900 feet, and the surrounding forest campgrounds are higher still, so the camping calendar is short. Webber Lake Campground North is open when conditions permit in the spring through October 15, or until winter weather closes the site. Forest Service sites on the Little Truckee corridor typically operate from late spring through October, with access controlled by snowpack: in heavy snow years roads to upper-elevation lakes have not been passable until late June. Summer is peak season for tent and dry-camping sites, with warm days and cold nights typical of the high Sierra. Late summer and early fall bring elevated wildfire risk on both the Tahoe and Humboldt-Toiyabe national forests; the Loyalton Fire burned more than 47,000 acres in Sierra, Plumas, and Lassen counties after a lightning ignition east of town, prompting mandatory evacuations in nearby communities including Chilcoot. Check fire restrictions and forest closures before traveling. Winter closes most forest campgrounds, leaving lower-elevation private parks along I-80 as the main year-round option.

Hookups are the dividing line. Private parks near Loyalton and at Verdi offer full hookups and paved pads, with amenities such as laundry and Wi-Fi at Gold Ranch Casino and RV Resort. Forest and land-trust campgrounds are dry: Webber Lake Campground North has no hookups and no dump station, but provides spacious shaded sites with a table, fire pit, and bear box. Cell coverage is limited once off Highway 89. Bears are active in the Tahoe National Forest, so all food and scented items should be stored in provided boxes. Watercraft entering Webber Lake are likely to be inspected for invasive species, and Sierra Country requires a completed AIS form before launching.
