Campgrounds near Ojai
Ojai sits in a small east-west valley in Ventura County, about 15 miles inland from the Pacific. The surrounding camping options split into three useful clusters for RV travelers: lake-based sites at Lake Casitas, hill-country sites toward Santa Paula, and oceanfront sites along the Ventura coast. Lake Casitas Recreation Area is managed by the Casitas Municipal Water District near Oak View, formed by Casitas Dam as a feature of the Ventura Project, and is known as one of the country's strong bass fishing areas. Within the recreation area, the Hawk - Lake Casitas Recreation Area and Osprey - Lake Casitas Recreation Area loops handle most RV stays, with a mix of full, partial, and primitive sites. To the east, Ventura Ranch KOA Holiday sits at the foot of the Topa Topa Mountains with wooded sites and dark skies. On the coast, Ventura Beach RV Resort offers full hookups close to downtown Ventura, while Emma Wood State Beach provides primitive oceanfront RV camping. Together, these give renters lake, mountain, and beach options within a short drive of Ojai.
Things to do near Ojai
At Lake Casitas, the recreation area includes a snack bar, boat rentals, bike rentals, and a grocery store, with the Los Padres National Forest next door for hiking and backcountry recreation. Swimming and body contact are not allowed in Lake Casitas because it is a drinking water reservoir, though an on-site water park gives families a separate option in summer. At Ventura Ranch KOA Holiday, families gravitate to the zip line, ropes course, jumping pillow, gem mining, and seasonal pool. Downtown Ojai is a short drive away for the Sunday outdoor farmers market, Bart's Books, and the Ojai Valley Trail, a paved path linking the valley to the coast. Beach access at Emma Wood State Beach and Ventura Beach RV Resort opens up surfing, fishing, and tidepooling along the Pacific.

Ojai has a Mediterranean climate. Hot, dry summers occasionally exceed 100°F, winters are mild with occasional nighttime lows below freezing, and most precipitation falls as rain between October and April, with dry summers in between. Summer is the busiest window for the lake and the coast: weekends fill quickly at Lake Casitas, and the peak reservation season at Emma Wood State Beach runs from mid-May through Labor Day, with first-come, first-served camping the rest of the year.
Winter is the wet season and brings cooler nights, but campgrounds stay active. Lake Casitas Recreation Area runs a long-stay snowbird program through the cool months, drawing winter visitors who take advantage of the off-peak weather. Fall is shoulder season: cooler nights, low rainfall, and elevated wildfire risk in the surrounding Los Padres backcountry, so check fire restrictions and red-flag warnings before arriving. Spring brings green hills, wildflowers, and heavy reservation pressure around holiday weekends. Coastal sites can be cool and foggy in late spring (the local 'May gray' and 'June gloom') even when inland Ojai is sunny.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ First-Time Trailer Campers, and We’re Hooked! 🚐🏕️ We had never stayed in a trailer before, let alone rented one for camping, so we were definitely newbies! Thankfully, Oscar made the whole experience a breeze. His communication was fantastic, and he patiently answered all our questions (and trust me, we had plenty! 😂). He delivered the trailer right to our campsite, hooked everything up, leveled it, and gave us a thorough walkthrough of all the interior and exterior features. Basically, he took the guesswork out of camping so we could focus on having fun! The trailer was well-equipped with pots, pans, plates, and knives, although we didn’t even need to use them. Everything was ready to go! The kids especially loved the bunks, which were a huge hit. Best of all, they had such a great time that they’re already saying they’d camp in an RV again. That’s a parenting win in our book! 🙌😂 Oscar truly went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. We couldn’t have asked for a better first trailer-rental experience. Would we recommend Oscar? Absolutely! Would we rent from him again? You bet! We’re already looking forward to our next adventure. Looks like Oscar has officially converted our family into RV campers! 🚐❤️

Booking campgrounds near Ojai
Each property uses a different system. Lake Casitas does not use Recreation.gov for site bookings: reservations are made online at reservations.casitaswater.org or by phone with Guest Services, up to 90 days in advance of the departure date. A 2-night minimum applies to weekends, and Friday and Saturday must be booked together. Ventura Ranch KOA Holiday books through the KOA website or by phone. Emma Wood State Beach uses the California State Parks system: reservations can be made up to six months in advance on a rolling window through ReserveCalifornia, or by calling 800-444-7275, as late as two days before arrival. Ventura Beach RV Resort takes direct reservations through its own site. For summer and holiday weekends, book the maximum window out, especially for waterfront and full-hookup sites.
What to expect on arrival
Lake Casitas runs a guarded entry. Check-in is 2:00 pm, check-out is 12:00 noon, and latest entry is 10:00 pm, with quiet hours from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Body contact with the lake is prohibited, and all vessels must be inspected and complete a 35-day quarantine before launching, due to invasive species restrictions. Wildlife including deer, coyotes, bobcats, and occasionally bears has been seen in the recreation area, so secure food and cookware when not in use. At Emma Wood State Beach, expect rough beachfront sites: primitive camping for fully self-contained vehicles only, no tents, and no water, restrooms, electricity, fire rings, or dump station. Railroad tracks and Highway 101 sit next to the campground and can be noisy, and high tides may close the campground at any time. Ventura Ranch KOA Holiday and Ventura Beach RV Resort both offer paved or graded pads with full hookups and family amenities.

eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Ojai?
For the best campgrounds near Ojai, reserve 3 to 4 months ahead for spring and summer weekends, holidays, and festival dates. Lake Casitas Recreation Area and Ventura Ranch KOA fill quickly from March through October. Book Lake Casitas through Ventura County Parks and federal sites like Wheeler Gorge through Recreation.gov. Weekday stays usually have more availability if you're flexible, and booking early helps you snag lakefront or shaded sites.
recreation.gov/Are Ojai's roads easy for RVs to drive?
Ojai's main routes are RV friendly. Highway 33 and Highway 150 provide easy access to the valley, with wide lanes on most stretches. Expect some curves and grades on mountain sections like the Dennison Grade and the upper part of Highway 33 north of Ojai, so take it slow in a larger motorhome. Downtown streets are narrow with limited parking, so booking RV delivery to your campground is often the easiest option. On summer weekends, leave early to avoid traffic toward Ventura and Santa Barbara.
roads.dot.ca.gov/Do Ojai-area campgrounds have electric, freshwater, and sewer hookups?
Hookup availability varies by campground. Lake Casitas Recreation Area offers a mix of full hookup, partial hookup, and dry sites plus a dump station. Ventura Ranch KOA has full hookup and standard RV sites. Wheeler Gorge Campground in Los Padres National Forest is a dry forest campground with no hookups. Freshwater spigots are available at most developed campgrounds. If hookups are essential, filter for full hookup sites and book early, especially during festival season.
venturaparks.org/ventura-county-parks/lake-casitas-recreation-area/What features are typically included in an Ojai RV rental?
Most Ojai RV rentals come with real beds, a kitchen with fridge and stove, a bathroom with shower, a dining area, and seatbelted seating. Many include air conditioning, a furnace, awnings, outdoor showers, and a generator for off-grid camping. Some listings add extras like a TV, solar, or a Wi-Fi hotspot. Each listing photo gallery and amenity list shows exactly what's included, and you can message the host directly to confirm specific features before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ojai%2C%20CaliforniaCan I request extras like bikes, camping chairs, or grills with my Ojai RV rental?
Yes. Many Ojai hosts offer add-ons such as camp chairs, portable grills, bikes, bedding and linen packages, and even paddleboards or kayaks for Lake Casitas. Available extras appear on each listing, and you can select them during the booking request. Some add-ons are free while others have a small fee, but they often beat packing or renting separately. For larger groups, ask your host about bundled family packages.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ojai%2C%20CaliforniaHow do payment and security deposits work for Ojai RV rentals?
RVezy charges your payment method when your booking is confirmed, and bookings can sometimes be split into installments depending on trip dates. A refundable security deposit is held separately before your trip starts and released after a successful return, typically within a few days. The deposit covers minor incidents not handled by your protection plan. Do a quick walkthrough with your host at pickup and return to keep things smooth.
